Chapter 382: A Duel Full of Surprises

In the first round of the Top 8 in Duel City, You Xuan faced off against Ryuki Mackenzie, the top duelist from Team Crawdaunt Tragoedia. And so, the battle commenced.
The remaining contestants gathered around the arena to spectate.
"I'll go first and draw!" Ryuki declared, taking the first turn.
As she drew her cards, before she could even make sense of her hand, she felt a chill at the back of her neck as a gloomy voice whispered in her ear.
"Take him down, Ryuki. He has something important, and win it from him through a Shadow Duel."
Ryuki stiffened at the command.
A Shadow Duel?
The young girl furrowed her brows, her frosty face revealing a hint of disgust.
"Hehe, don't forget who gave you your power and who holds your fate in their hands." The voice chuckled darkly.
"This is an order, not a suggestion."
Ryuki: "..."
She took a deep breath, and when she looked at You Xuan again, her eyes held a fiercer determination.
"Sorry about this. We have no grudge, but I just want to survive. That's all."
As she thought of this, a dark glint appeared in her eyes, and even the surroundings of the arena began to gather a faint black mist.
"Brother!" Keihei exclaimed in surprise. "This woman, she's not right either."
"Indeed."
Kaiba, however, remained calm and collected.
"As expected, there are no easy opponents at this final stage. But don't worry."
Kaiba turned his gaze to You Xuan, letting out a derisive laugh.
"This guy isn't that easy to deal with."
As he spoke, he glanced sideways at the Judge on the other side of the Duel Arena, who was also watching with a relaxed expression as if enjoying the show.
"This power... This woman is..." Loren muttered.
"A puppet of Tragoedia, I presume." The Judge replied, "It's a bit unfortunate that Luka couldn't bring that guy back. If we had his power, things would be much simpler... Ah, well.
We might still be able to gauge how much of his power has recovered through his puppet."
"I activate the Continuous Spell, 'Heaven's Court'!" Ryuki declared.
A golden ring appeared in the air, with two small angels flying around it, their halos shining brightly.
"Then, I Normal Summon 'Angel of Sacred Light, Parshath' in Defense Position!"

This was one of Ryuki's signature monsters from the original story, a Level 1 LIGHT Fairy-Type monster with 200 ATK and 300 DEF.
"The effect of 'Heaven's Court' allows me to Special Summon a Fairy-Type monster from my hand once per turn while I control a Level 1 Fairy-Type monster." Ryuki explained as she drew a card from her hand.
"I Special Summon 'Angel of Light, Tethys'!"
A sacred white angel descended slowly from the halo, its pure white wings spreading out as feathers drifted down.

Just like in the original story, Ryuki's deck was almost entirely composed of Fairy-Type monsters. 'Heaven's Court' was also a card she used in the original story, and its effect in this real-life setting remained mostly the same, except for the limitation of 'once per turn'.
"Next, I activate the Spell Card, 'Hand Destruction'!" Ryuki announced, "Both players discard their entire hands and then draw the same number of cards."
You Xuan scanned his hand and discarded all his cards before drawing a new set.
Ryuki did the same, but as she drew her cards, the Angel of Light spread its wings, emitting a dazzling white light.
"At this moment, the effect of 'Angel of Light, Tethys' also activates." Ryuki explained, "When I draw a Fairy-Type monster, I can reveal it to my opponent and then draw an additional card from my deck."
The Angel of Light opened its wings, holding its hands together in front of its chest. A card appeared, floating within the radiant light of her palms, revealing its appearance.
"I've drawn 'Angel 01', a Fairy-Type monster." Ryuki stated, "As a result, I draw an additional card from my deck."
After drawing, she quickly selected two more cards from her hand.
Ryuki scoffed, choosing to remain silent.
But this was to be expected. Though not by her choice, this was a life-or-death duel. It was either defeat her opponent or perish.
"My turn, draw." You Xuan glanced at the card he drew. "Oh, what a fortunate draw. The perfect card to play against an Angel user."
Ryuki: "?"
The perfect card against Angels?
Though she didn't know what he was talking about, a bad feeling suddenly washed over her.
You Xuan swept his arm, and a face-down card appeared on the field.
"I'll set one card in face-down Defense Position."
Immediately after, a vortex opened in the graveyard, and an image of a monster card floated into view.
"Effect of 'AD Changer' in the graveyard. By banishing this card from the graveyard, I can change the battle position of one monster on the field."
You Xuan plucked the 'AD Changer' from the graveyard and pointed to his own face-down monster.
"I'll flip this card into Attack Position.
Revealing Light Sorcerer, Leena!"
The face-down monster was flipped, revealing a white-haired, staff-wielding loli wizard.

"Leena's effect activates when she is flipped face-up. I can target one LIGHT Attribute monster my opponent controls."
You Xuan smiled.
".and take control of that monster."
Ryuki: "!!!"
Taking control of a LIGHT Attribute monster?!
"Leena's effect activates, taking control of 'Sacred Light Angel, Tethys'!" You Xuan smiled. "It seems you've summoned a high-level Angel right off the bat. Thank you, but I won't hold back.
Come to me, Sacred Light Angel, Tethys."
Leena waved her staff, releasing a flash of light magic. Tethys leaped into the air and landed on You Xuan's side of the field.
"You bastard." Ryuki gritted her teeth.
It just had to be a Revealing Light Sorcerer, what terrible luck. Over ninety percent of her deck was comprised of LIGHT Attribute monsters.
Of course, at this moment, Ryuki attributed this to her own misfortune, not realizing that this was no mere coincidence.
Though You Xuan's deck contained a variety of components whose meanings were unclear, he usually didn't have a Revealing Light Sorcerer. This was a special surprise gift prepared just for her.
This was one of the benefits of dueling an original character. There was no need to gather information or watch their duels beforehand; he could anticipate their deck characteristics and countermeasures.
"Revealing Light Sorcerer, Leena, attack 'Holy God Parshath'!"
Leena only had 500 ATK, but her opponent was in a worse situation. Holy God Parshath only had 300 DEF. Leena's staff strike shattered the little angel into pieces.
And now, the only barrier she had on the field was the 'Holy God Parshath'. Once it was destroyed, she could foresee the incoming direct attack from her own 'Sacred Light Angel, Tethys'.
Ryuki clenched her jaw.
If she lost here, it would be a joke.
The Dark Game was her own doing, and so was the summoning of her monsters. It felt like she was harming herself.
That wouldn't do.
"Counter Trap, 'Negate Attack'!" Ryuki declared. "Negate the attack, and end the Battle Phase!"
The trap released a transparent energy, forming a cyclone-like shield. Tethys' strike was absorbed into the vortex, failing to deal any damage.
"Barely blocked it, huh."
You Xuan didn't seem to mind.
This was just the beginning.
"I set three cards. End turn."
You Xuan smiled and gestured, inviting her to continue.
This duel had more surprises in store, and Miss Ryuki would have to discover them for herself.
