Chapter 381: Opening the Door, Blurring the Line Between Reality and Illusion
Chapter 381: Opening the Door, Blurring the Line Between Reality and Illusion
"The President's condition is not good. The Secret Spirit seems to be withering, as if..." The leading elder, skilled in perception, didn't finish her sentence, but everyone understood her meaning—she couldn't hold on much longer.
"There's still a chance, we can—"
"No need, I feel very good, very good!" Ye Zhen suddenly awoke from her coma, her voice carrying a hint of etherealness.
When everyone saw her gaze, they couldn't help but feel a chill.
All could sense that her eyes had no focus, appearing very hollow, as if the entire world was blurry to her.
In fact, to Ye Zhen, the entire world was so illusory and dull. In the puzzled gazes of those present, she extended her hand as if pushing something aside.
'Finished, she must be crazy!' The high-ranking officials of the Blood Rose Association couldn't help but think, as this was far from a good sign.
After all, no normal person would do something so meaningless upon waking from a coma.
"Nothing major happened in the base while I was unconscious, right?" Ye Zhen's hollow gaze swept over the crowd.
Those who met her gaze felt a chill, as if Ye Zhen could slice them into pieces at any moment.
"It's all normal, except for Chen Qiu. Her room is sealed, and her body hasn't been dealt with yet. President, what do you think?" an elder said.
"Just dispose of her simply. She's no longer a threat." Ye Zhen said calmly.
To her, everyone present was a door, but strangely, she could still recognize who they were.
If not for the remaining rationality that suppressed her, the desires in her heart would have long driven her to open these doors. She didn't know what was behind them, but she knew they were people under her command.
If she opened them, the outcome would certainly be disastrous, so she had to resist.
Moreover, her mind was filled with countless indescribable whispers, narrating knowledge from some illusory dreams, making it impossible for her to distinguish between reality and illusion. The boundary between the two was gradually blurring in her.
The others only saw that Ye Zhen's consciousness seemed to be fading, so they didn't think too much about it, instead believing she couldn't handle it again, leading to some panic.
However, under the dual influence of illusion and whispers, Ye Zhen seemed to see a distorted door slowly drifting towards her from the distant horizon.
"Chen Qiu?" Upon seeing this door, Ye Zhen immediately recognized who or what it was.
It was Chen Qiu, who had long been dead, but had not fully perished. Instead, she was hidden deep within the illusions of everyone's hearts, and upon Ye Zhen's recognition, gradually solidified into reality.
"No, no, you're not Chen Qiu, you're a monster that has taken over Chen Qiu's body!!!"
Ye Zhen's voice was sharp, catching all the high-ranking officials off guard. They hadn't expected her condition to be so severe, to the point of experiencing hallucinations.
Perhaps due to the severity of the shock, they exchanged glances but couldn't come up with a solution, so they could only watch from a distance.
After all, Ye Zhen's strength far surpassed theirs. If she were to lash out, none of them would be a match for her.
As for restraining Ye Zhen, no one would dare suggest such a suicidal idea. Weak restraining the strong? That was asking for death.
"You came just in time. I was about to open the door and see what's behind you." Ye Zhen's originally sharp voice suddenly changed, taking on a mad, rambling tone.
She wobbled to her feet and extended her hand, pushing gently into the void, as if truly opening a non-existent door.
Before anyone could react, they felt a sharp pain in their chests, as if they had been severely wounded. Even the most resilient Secret Spirit Masters couldn't endure it, bending over and clutching their chests, gasping for air.
"Hearts? So many hearts, I see. You really are hiding in everyone's hearts. Is there a part of you in my heart?" Ye Zhen became increasingly deranged. In her eyes, countless doors floated from the void, enveloping her layer by layer.
Then, she lowered her head and noticed that she herself had somehow turned into a door.
Reaching out, she gently plucked a heart from the distorted door, and suddenly, one of the elders lost his life, his eyes wide open in shock.
In Ye Zhen's hand, a fresh heart appeared.
At this moment, everyone present finally understood the situation and couldn't help but swallow hard.
They thought about making a run for it, but the situation was too bizarre. They feared that any sudden movement would trigger the insane Ye Zhen to use her bizarre heart-extraction technique.
After playing with the heart for a while, it visibly withered at an alarming rate. Ye Zhen's body seemed to be undergoing some inexplicable changes. At some point, the skin on her left forearm began to wriggle, and in the horrified gazes of the onlookers, a human face appeared on her left forearm.
This face was very familiar to them—it belonged to the elder whose heart had just been plucked. When they turned to look, the elder's body had turned into a desiccated corpse, drained of all fluids.
"President, the door, the door!!!" The face on her arm emitted a sharp voice, as if trying to warn her of something.
"I know, I know, but we have to pluck all these hearts first. Otherwise, wouldn't it be a waste to leave them behind?" Ye Zhen's ethereal voice replied to the face on her arm.
"Take action, or she will attack us!" someone shouted. Everyone present could no longer hold back, especially when they saw Ye Zhen reaching out again to pluck another heart. No one knew if they would be the next victim.
Seeing this, a rare look of confusion appeared in Ye Zhen's hollow expression. She didn't understand why her subordinates were trying to stop her; it wasn't a big deal, after all.
Her mind and logic were already in extreme chaos, and she was completely immersed in a state of confusion.
However, she quickly forgot about it and gently pushed. A terrifying door appeared in front of all the attackers, both illusory and real, existing only in their vision but not in reality.
Unable to dodge, they all collided with the door. After a brief journey through the illusion, they emerged as withered corpses.
"Hmm, why are there so few hearts? Did I pluck them already?" Ye Zhen seemed puzzled. She then counted the numerous faces that appeared on her body and sighed in relief: "I did pluck them."
"Then let's pluck them all, there aren't many left." Ye Zhen's face twisted into a strange smile, and she reached out again, continuously plucking from the air.
Each time she plucked, a Secret Spirit Master in the Blood Rose Association would fall, turning into a desiccated corpse.
With each death, another face appeared on her body, making her appearance increasingly bizarre. Each face seemed to have its own thoughts, constantly murmuring strange words, creating a truly horrifying scene.
"None left. What a pity." She said, then began to feel around her body. She quickly found what she was looking for and reached in, forcefully extracting a large amount of flesh, faces, and a blood-red rose.
This thing made her feel uncomfortable, but the size of the blood-red rose was unexpected. It was spread throughout her entire body, and when she pulled it out, her blood vessels and flesh tore apart.
"Phew~ It's such a nuisance." After pulling it out, Ye Zhen's body was riddled with holes, but the faces began to pull and repair her body.
Her injuries healed at an unscientific rate, and Ye Zhen didn't give it much thought. Instead, she pushed open a door and slowly walked through, appearing outside the Blood Rose Association's base.
She gazed blankly at the sun in the sky and then naturally pushed open one non-existent door after another.
People's positions kept changing, and with each door she opened, her sanity diminished. She was left with only one thought: to push open the door on someone's body and take their heart or their life.
Fortunately, these two choices made little difference to Ye Zhen.
