Chapter 381: Hubert and Sigrid's Encounter
Chapter 381: Hubert and Sigrid's Encounter
North of the Protoss Royal Magic Academy.
Moonlight filtered through the thick clouds, casting a faint glow on the street beside Gloria's solitary mansion. The mansion occupied the entire area, enveloped by a meticulously landscaped garden. The vegetation appeared lush and vibrant in the moonlight, and the water in the fountain pool created a gentle, murmuring sound as the rain fell.
The windows on the first floor of the mansion were blocked by curtains, but a faint light shining through the gaps indicated that someone was still awake inside.
"You must be exhausted from the journey."
Lanchi held an umbrella as he escorted Hubert along the school's path late at night, with Gloria's mansion, the residence of the direct subordinate, directly ahead.
After sending Mishula back to the residence that Milford Earl had arranged for them near the Protoss Royal Magic Academy, Lanchi continued north with Hubert, and within a few minutes, they arrived near Gloria's home.
"Thankfully, everything went smoothly."
Hubert shook her head. She didn't want Lanchi to know about the dangers she had encountered in the Box Mountain Province, fearing that he would seek revenge on the Extinction Branch for her.
Upon reflection, whenever she was bullied by Eclectic, Lanchi would always take revenge on her behalf, whether intentionally or not. His motives always seemed noble, glorious, and righteous.
Even though Lanchi now held a high position in the Protoss Empire, a position that she still couldn't fully accept, she knew the terrifying power of the Extinction Bishop. Even the Ice Snow Witch teacher struggled to stand against them.
Lanchi smiled and nodded, as if he believed her words. With one hand, he pushed open the gate of the courtyard and held the umbrella over Hubert as they walked in together.
The moist gravel path in the courtyard sparkled even more brightly in the moonlight, and the gentle rain continued to fall, almost drowning out the sound of their footsteps.
Hubert quietly walked beside Lanchi.
She didn't know why he had come here first after returning to the school, but she assumed that he, too, had something important to attend to.
Regarding Hellrom Prison, it seemed that she would have to wait until later when they were alone in a safer location to ask him about it.
Nowadays, due to the absurd bill, the Resurrection Church had become a legitimate church in the Protoss Empire, while the Church of the Goddess of Fate was branded as a heretical cult.
However, Hubert believed that Lanchi, as a high-ranking official in the empire, would agree to help the Church of the Goddess of Fate for the greater good.
Although she wasn't sure how much help Lanchi would offer, the Ice Snow Witch had also warned her repeatedly not to trust anyone of importance in the Protoss Empire easily. Nonetheless, Hubert wasn't worried that Lanchi would betray her.
She simply couldn't imagine Lanchi secretly bringing her to a base of the Resurrection Church and handing her over to those heretics for judgment.
The two arrived at Gloria's door.
"Gloria, it's me."
Lanchi knocked lightly on the door and called out.
Soon, someone opened the door to the mansion, and there wasn't even a sound of footsteps.
Perhaps Gloria had been waiting behind the door ever since she noticed the commotion in the courtyard.
"You're back."
Gloria addressed Lanchi with a respectful tone, bowing slightly as she spoke.
"..."
This, however, made Lanchi feel a little uncomfortable.
Gloria's tone didn't sound like a student addressing the principal or a subordinate addressing a superior. Instead, it carried a sense of submission to a stepfather, as if she were starting to accept the relationship between her mother and her stepfather.
In the brief silence that followed, Gloria quietly observed Hubert, noting that they were around the same age. Her initial wariness gradually faded away.
The Saint only seemed to favor older women in their thirties, and a young girl like Hubert, who was in her youthful prime, posed no threat to the Bishop.
Among all the young female students in school, the Saint kept a sad and distant barrier, except for the Bishop, who possessed an irreplaceable closeness, which fully revealed the Saint's psychological age and preferences.
"Please go in first."
Lanchi folded his umbrella and handed it to Gloria, addressing Hubert.
"Mhm."
Hubert also felt that something was amiss, but she couldn't quite pinpoint what felt off.
She could only vaguely conclude that this female student named Gloria was probably not the true owner of this place.
Lanchi must have brought her here to meet someone else.
Closing the door behind them, the world seemed to quiet down, even the sound of the rain was shut out. The mansion was likely equipped with soundproof magical devices.
The three of them walked down the corridor leading to the living room, with Lanchi and Hubert in front and Gloria respectfully following behind.
The soft lighting illuminated the spotless corridor, and the air was filled with a blend of jasmine, cedar, and distilled alcohol, creating a pleasant fragrance.
The entire scent was like a softly whispered melody, both focused and fresh, and the harmonious and balanced environment instantly put one at ease.
Perhaps sensing this comfort, a timid little black shadow emerged from Lanchi's shadow.
"Mr. Cat..."
Hubert crouched down and picked up the little black cat, stroking its head. After glancing around, she felt that this place indeed seemed to belong to a woman.
She didn't understand why Lanchi had brought her to someone else's home.
But the fact that Mr. Cat was willing to come out indicated that it was safe.
"Meow..."
Mr. Cat dared not look directly at Hubert.
It couldn't even begin to imagine the amount of shock and fear Hubert had experienced.
"..."
Hubert had wanted to ask Mr. Cat about why Lanchi had turned out this way.
But seeing that it was just an ordinary cat, and looking at Lanchi, she decided against it.
The smaller the ability, the smaller the responsibility. Mr. Cat was only capable of basic life activities.
As they stepped into a spacious and brightly lit area, the trio arrived in the mansion's living room.
Seated on the sofa was Sigrid, her arms wrapped around herself.
"You're back late today."
Sigrid's voice carried a hint of gentle tiredness, and her purple eyes held a hint of submission.
It seemed she had been waiting for Lanchi for a long time, but there was no blame in her words. She was merely conveying that she hoped he would return earlier next time, or else she might worry.
Hearing this, Hubert looked at the woman with a unique aura and light-colored hair with a puzzled expression. Sigrid exuded an air of dominance yet also possessed a touch of gentleness.
Hubert was not only surprised that Lanchi knew such a captivating woman, but she was even more shocked by the implication of Sigrid's words.
Could it be that Lanchi had been living with this woman during this period of time? Hubert couldn't believe it. It had only been a little over two months since they last met, and Lanchi had already developed such a close relationship with a woman.
Back in Ikelyte, Lanchi had shown no interest in women, and the person closest to him wasn't even Hubert herself, but Fred!
