Chapter 380: Secret Maneuvers
Chapter 380: Secret Maneuvers
Mid-October arrived, and Chen Chuan, residing in the Mo Tie Mountain Manor, refrained from calling home for security reasons. Instead, he had Gao Ming send a telegram to his family.
During this time, Chen Chuan underwent two more ingestions of the Essence Blood Spirit Regularity, and with each day, he accumulated more of the essence. In the absence of external interference, it was akin to a secluded cultivation period.
Aside from some necessary defensive preparations, most of his time was dedicated to his cultivation, especially since he could sense progress after each medication intake. He relished this process.
Meanwhile, the Meng Clan and their company had been making frequent moves, but Yan Yi paid them no heed. She believed they were merely trying to pressure Meng Shu, causing her to lose her composure. The more anxious Meng Huang became, the calmer they had to remain.
Chen Chuan also received updates from the Handling Bureau, revealing their cautious approach. The Bureau had recently discovered new activities from the Ferris Wheel Company, diverting much of their attention. From this, Chen Chuan deduced that the opposing side was likely preparing to make a move soon, warranting extra vigilance in the coming days.
Just then, a sudden alarm sounded from outside, followed by hurried footsteps. The security team members quickly rushed to their designated positions within the vast estate.
Over the past while, the estate had been conducting repeated drills based on the Handling Bureau's defense plan. Occasionally, Chen Chuan would participate during his free time, allowing the security personnel to directly experience the threat posed by a Third Level Combatant.
However, with a third of the security personnel absent, it was impossible to cover every corner of the expansive estate. They had no choice but to rely on the bio-weapons to guard those areas, focusing their defense primarily around the main residence. Their goal was not to eliminate numerous enemies but to protect themselves and create delays.
In the midst of the drill, a truck appeared on the road at the foot of the mountain. Due to the large number of residents, the estate purchased ingredients and daily supplies in bulk every month. For security reasons, these were procured through the Mo Tie Mountain Agency.
As the truck approached, a small airship flew in from a distance. Whenever an unfamiliar vehicle or one not registered in advance entered the Mo Tie Mountain area, these airships would draw near, especially around Meng Shu's estate, which had heightened security measures.
The truck stopped in front of the estate, and the accompanying personnel began unloading the cargo. In the front seat, a tall man dressed in a staff uniform peered out through the one-way glass, surveying the estate.
However, he found that the estate was strategically concealed from every direction, with trees blocking the view from a distance. He couldn't see much from inside the truck.
After unloading, the truck closed its doors and drove away under the watchful eyes of the security team.
As the driver headed back, he kept his eyes on the road ahead and said, "I received word that the estate has been conducting frequent drills, and the security is tight. Last month, there was a strange incident where they brought in a wanted criminal, but the purpose remains unclear. It's likely that they intended to hand him over to the Combatant."
"A wanted criminal?"
The tall man found the situation peculiar. Why would they send a wanted criminal at this time? He suddenly considered a possible scenario but dismissed it as his overactive imagination. If the criminal was meant for the Combatant, it was probably for combat cultivation or personal release.
This deduction made sense. By the Third Level of Combat, especially for those who had taken special medications, mental instability was common. Many even developed peculiar fetishes, like the members of their team.
Yan Yi, the professional, inspected the ingredients and daily supplies. Finding no issues, she arranged for someone to carry them inside.
Chen Chuan emerged from within and, after a quick glance, said, "Put the items down and open them for my inspection."
Most of the security team members immediately stepped back, seeking cover, while two of them, along with the pale-faced internal transport staff, opened each item.
Yan Yi, sensing the situation, quickly descended from the mountain in an internal vehicle. Boldly approaching the scene, she took a few more looks before asking, "Is there a problem, Chen Chuan?"
"I'm not certain yet, but I advise against consuming or using this batch of items," Chen Chuan replied.
He had a hunch that something was amiss, though he couldn't pinpoint what it was. But he trusted his instincts.
Yan Yi, however, had full faith in his judgment. Without hesitation, she used the Boundary Token to contact the Mo Tie Mountain Agency, requesting an immediate replacement batch. "What should we do with these items, Chen Chuan?" she asked.
"Wait a moment," Chen Chuan said, turning away.
He moved to a secluded spot and contacted Wu Bei. "Wu Bei, can you set up a solo platform?"
"Aside from the Resonator's Nest, it requires unique Field Creatures. I have some spares, but they can only last for about five minutes."
Chen Chuan said, "Five minutes is enough."
Wu Bei immediately replied, "Wait a moment." After a while, he sent a message, "Alright, who does Young Master Chen want to contact?"
Chen Chuan quickly sent over a contact and an address, "It's this person. Can you set up a private line for me?"
Wu Bei looked at the information and said, "No problem."
He seemed to be fiddling with something. After a while, he sent a temporary platform login password, "Alright, Young Master Chen, you can contact them now."
Chen Chuan logged in and contacted the person. The other side answered quickly. After the usual pleasantries, Chen Chuan stated his purpose, "I need to know some information... something like this..."
He asked about what he wanted to know, and the other side didn't disappoint, responding immediately. After hearing the information, he said, "I might need to ask more questions later. If there are any additional details, I hope you can contact me via radio."
The other side agreed and confirmed the radio frequency before ending the call.
Meanwhile, Wu Bei sent another message, "Young Master Chen, I didn't get a chance to tell you earlier, but I intercepted a message when the truck entered and left the area. The same frequency appeared last month when they delivered the goods. Although I can't analyze the specific content, it's definitely from inside the manor."
Chen Chuan replied, "I understand."
He walked back and said to Yan Yi, "Just bury these things here." After giving the instructions, he didn't wait for Yan Yi to speak; the staff and security team immediately moved the items to one side.
Yan Yi could sense Chen Chuan's authority among these people, and she was pleased. Only a strong leader could ensure compliance when danger arose.
On the other side, after the truck left the Ink Mountain area, the tall man received a message from the manor via the boundary token, informing him that they needed another batch of the same materials. He was somewhat surprised, "So cautious, huh..."
The items indeed had some modifications, but the contents themselves were not problematic. The modifications would only be triggered when they took action, and the current conditions on the mountain couldn't detect them.
The relevant person on the other side asked, "Boss Sheng, should we rearrange things on that side?"
The tall man replied, "Forget it."
The materials were expensive, and if they could detect it once, they might detect it again, wasting their efforts. So, he canceled the plan.
After dealing with this, he contacted the team. When the call connected, he said, "Boss, that fighter is no simple character. I suspect he has a very high sensory perception, which aligns with his field techniques. He is particularly sensitive to anything unusual or out of place in his surroundings.
Such a person would notice if we tried to tamper with his daily items. I suggest we stop wasting time on these things...
Boss, the employer is already pressing us, and we've done most of the preliminary work. I think we should proceed. Yes, I'll head over immediately..."
While waiting for the security team to handle the items, Chen Chuan told Yan Yi, "Among your three resonators, at least one is an informant."
Yan Yi wasn't particularly surprised, but she sounded a bit regretful, "These highly skilled resonators are hard to recruit. Losing one is a significant loss."
Chen Chuan said, "Assistant Yan, you should have a way to find out, right?"
Yan Yi replied, "I'll take care of it. Oh, and Mr. Chen, the things you asked someone to send, and the people you requested for this month, have been brought to your villa's entrance."
Though she didn't know why Chen Chuan needed a wanted criminal each month, she didn't ask since he hadn't mentioned it.
After everything was buried, Chen Chuan returned to the residential area. There was a person lying at the door, along with a package.
He used the boundary token to scan and saw a dozen criminal records pop up, confirming the person's identity as a fugitive. He picked up the person and took them inside.
The fugitive had been injected with a sedative and was still unconscious. Chen Chuan didn't need the person to be awake. He took the person and the package to the living room, laid the person down, and took out the lynx talisman from his pocket, placing it on the fugitive.
Soon, the fugitive began to convulse violently. After about ten minutes, the convulsions stopped, and the body was now just an empty shell.
Chen Chuan bent down to retrieve the talisman. Though he was confident, he was cautious with his enemies and would use any additional resources to his advantage.
When the other side sent people, there would likely be more than one. With the lynx talisman, he could at least neutralize one combatant, if not kill them, at least severely injure them, making it impossible for them to recover quickly.
As for the package...
He walked over and opened it, finding it filled with secret sect ritual materials that Lao Qi had bought for him.
