Chapter 380: Peter Pettigrew's Leap from Fear
Chapter 380: Peter Pettigrew's Leap from Fear
The moment Sirius saw the rat, his reason was shaken, and he wanted to rush forward and tear the creature to pieces.
Fortunately, Sirius remembered the words Ivan had spoken to him, and with great difficulty, he restrained himself. Killing Peter like this would be too easy for him.
He felt that Peter deserved to suffer, to be imprisoned in Azkaban, experience torment, and finally receive a Dementor's kiss to match his crimes.
With this thought, Sirius abandoned the idea of immediately killing Peter. He glared at him fiercely and then quickly walked to Ivan's bedside, intending to place the note in his hand on Ivan's pillow.
However, just as he bent down, the previously sleeping Ivan suddenly opened his eyes.
Almost instantly, Ivan's wand was pressed against Sirius's throat, a white light flickering at its tip.
An overwhelming sense of danger flooded Sirius's mind, as if he would die in the next second. He hurriedly spoke to stop Ivan.
"It's me, Hals!"
"Sirius?" Ivan finally recognized the person in front of him and sighed in relief.
When Ivan had just opened his eyes, he saw a disheveled, somewhat emaciated figure standing by his bed, and he almost thought someone was trying to assassinate him, reacting instinctively.
"Yes, it's me! I haven't seen you for a while, so I came to find you!" Sirius raised an eyebrow, his voice low, and even though Ivan was so close, he could only barely make out the words.
Ivan felt embarrassed. He realized he had forgotten something important over the past few days—Sirius, who had been wandering around the school.
But he couldn't entirely blame himself. After the start of the school year, one thing after another had kept him busy. He had been working on improving the Polyjuice Potion, then fighting with Brock's men twice after returning three months into the past.
Now, he had to focus on fusing a third type of bloodline and search the castle for a Boggart, so he had forgotten to meet up with Sirius outside.
Sirius could naturally see from Ivan's expression what had happened, but now wasn't the time for small talk.
"Time is short, so I'll be brief! After you left, I stayed in Knockturn Alley for a while, gathering information. You won't believe who I ran into there", Sirius said hurriedly.
Who? Aisha? Ivan thought to himself.
At that moment, an unusually shrill sound came from the other side of the room!
Squeak, squeak, squeak!
By Ron's bed, the gray-black rat had opened its eyes, staring in terror at the figure standing by Ivan's bed, making a series of frightened squeaks.
Soon, the sleeping Harry, Neville, and the others were awakened by the noise. Ron, yawning and annoyed, shouted, "Scabbers, stop that! Scabbers!"
But Scabbers didn't stop squeaking, and Ron fell silent, his gaze drawn to the tall figure in the dormitory. A chill ran down his spine, and he immediately remembered the newspaper he had read when he came to school.
The madman who had been trying to kill Harry!
Only he would dare to sneak in at this time.
"Ah!!!"
Ron's scream echoed through the dormitory, triggering a chain reaction. Harry, Neville, and the others also let out terrified shrieks.
Sirius Black's face changed dramatically. He was well aware of his status as a fugitive and knew he must not be caught before the truth was revealed!
So when Ron discovered him, Sirius had already taken action. Taking advantage of the chaos and the dark night, he slipped a small note into Ivan's hand and swiftly dashed out.
Before fleeing, Sirius couldn't help but give one last fierce look at that accursed rat, a look that filled Scabbers with immense fear!
It screamed wildly, breaking free from Ron's grasp and scurrying around the already chaotic dormitory.
"Scabbers, where are you going! Scabbers!" Despite being terrified, Ron didn't forget about his beloved pet.
But the petrified Peter Pettigrew dared not stay in the dormitory any longer. Since Sirius had just left through the door, Peter didn't dare to go that way. In a panic, he jumped out of the ventilation window!
"No, Scabbers, come back!" Ron's heart ached as he shouted in despair.
The cold midnight wind woke Peter as he fell from the window, but he wasn't too worried.
In his current rat form, the fall wouldn't kill him; at worst, he would sustain some injuries.
Compared to that, Peter was far more afraid of staying in the dormitory. He remembered seeing Sirius talking to the young wizard named Ivan-Hals when he had just woken up.
Though he didn't hear the specific details, the situation was enough to make him feel deeply uneasy. So he chose freedom, even if it meant risking injury!
Unfortunately, just as Peter was savoring the taste of freedom in the wind, a voice came from above.
"Accio, Scabbers!"
Peter realized his descent had stopped, and then he was pulled upwards at a faster speed by an unseen force.
It was the Accio spell! By the time Peter understood this, it was too late. He was flown back to the dormitory, and a hand reached out to grab his tail firmly.
Peter struggled to lift his head, and Ivan's handsome face appeared before him, but it looked like the face of a demon, sending a wave of fear through his heart.
"Obliviate!" Ivan whispered, his wand pointed at the gray rat.
Ivan's voice and actions were not noticeable in the dark and chaotic dormitory, as Neville's screams and the commotion outside the door drowned out his words.
But Peter, who was right there, heard everything clearly. A strange sense of familiarity washed over him.
Again?
Before he fell asleep, this thought flashed through Peter's mind. He quickly realized that he might not be the first time he had been hit by the Obliviate spell.
How much have I forgotten?
At this thought, Peter gasped, the chill of the night air nothing compared to the icy fear that rose from his heart.
A white light flashed, and the gray rat's body trembled as it fell unconscious, a single tear sliding down its cheek.
