Chapter 380: Narya
Chapter 380: Narya
"Finally, we’ve figured it out." After living with Rogen for a month, Liam, Rogen, and Alice finally understood the principle of the Flame of Eternity in the laboratory. Of course, Alice was only there to broaden her horizons; she wasn’t yet at the level to contribute to this research.
"In essence, it’s an immortal power core, similar to our Key of Truth, but it’s a unique form of soul elevation in that world. The most significant feature is that the Flame of Eternity fuses with the soul of its owner. For them, the physical body is just a shell. The true self is the soul fused with the Flame of Eternity, and even if the body is destroyed, their soul can use this Flame to be reborn. Unlike our Key of Truth, which relies on the physical body until a certain level, and if the body is destroyed, the Key of Truth is destroyed as well", Rogen explained to Liam and Alice in a steady tone.
"Moreover, this primordial power from that world can easily merge with its owner, granting them immortality without the need for our arduous cultivation. They can even pass this immortal power to their offspring, who are born with the Flame of Eternity."
"What about the drawbacks?" Alice asked. "A power that far surpasses others of the same level can’t be without any flaws."
Rogen smiled approvingly at her words. "I’m glad you noticed that. Not being blinded by immediate benefits and controlling greed is a fundamental quality of an Alchemist. Yes, the Flame of Eternity does have its issues."
"Firstly, it’s a primordial power specific to that world, meaning most of its abilities only function properly there. I suspect that in other worlds, this immortal power would be severely weakened. Secondly, the strength of the Flame of Eternity is determined at the time of its creation. As Liam mentioned, if your Flame of Eternity is of the Valar rank, then your power is capped at Valar. If it’s of the Maiar rank, no matter how hard you try, you won’t surpass Maiar to become Valar."
"Most importantly, this power can only be granted directly or indirectly by the primordial forces of that world. As Alchemists, we are mortals who seek the power of deities. This power, which doesn’t align with our path, won’t enhance our strength; instead, it will put us in danger. So, remember, never let the allure of easily obtainable power cloud your judgment and put you in peril."
Liam and Alice listened attentively to Teacher Luo Zhen’s advice, nodding thoughtfully at key points.
After the lesson, under Teacher Luo Zhen’s guidance, Liam prepared to create a magical ring. This was his final decision after gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience in the Lord of the Rings world.
Contrary to his initial expectations, Gandalf’s experience taught Liam that wielding a staff in one hand and a sword in the other wasn’t the most effective. The best way to fully utilize his power was to minimize his spellcasting tools to free his hands, then use melee weapons according to his habits. After all, a staff isn’t designed for close combat and isn’t as effective as a mace or an axe in such situations.
The core of this ring would be the Flame of Eternity, a precious knowledge he had brought with him. Teacher Luo Zhen used a Rose Relic Fragment to seal and solidify this strand of the Flame of Eternity. Liam decided to cut the egg-shaped red gem, which contained the burning Flame of Eternity, to serve as the ring’s face.
The ring’s band was forged from mithril, using the same techniques employed in the creation of the Elven Three Rings. Liam’s only concern was that the design was a bit too delicate and ornate, and an uninformed outsider might mistake it for a woman’s ring.
With the ring and gem prepared, the most critical step began. Liam activated the large transmutation array in the center of the laboratory and poured several liters of Heavenly Silver into it.
Under the influence of Magic, the Heavenly Silver poured into the ritual array came to life, gathering toward the center. Then, under the effect of Magic, it gradually floated into the air, eventually forming a sphere the size of a soccer ball.
"Narya, Nenya, Vilya—" Liam began chanting the Spell in Quenya, simultaneously dropping the Flame of Eternity-sealed Rose Madonna Fragment, the size of a peanut, and the previously forged ring into the sphere of Heavenly Silver.
As magic power was infused and the spell was chanted, countless sesame-sized bright silver runes appeared on the sphere of Heavenly Silver. These runes then converged, split, and reformed into various larger or smaller mysterious runes. Each rune revealed contained different powers, and even just their presence could influence the minds of ordinary people.
Time slowly passed, and the process continued to advance. The pressure from the Alchemical Array grew stronger. Fortunately, Teacher Luo Zhen released a blood-red protective barrier, shielding Liam from the pressure emanating from the Magic Array, allowing him to fully focus on the creation of the Magic Ring.
When the final word of the Spell was spoken, all the runes instantly lost their color. The sphere of Heavenly Silver in the center of the Alchemical Array returned to its initial state. However, it soon began to vibrate at an extremely high frequency, shrinking like a deflating balloon.
In the end, all the Heavenly Silver disappeared, leaving only a blinding golden light floating above the Alchemical Array. At that moment, everyone present heard a clear, ringing sound in their souls.
As the echo of the sound faded, the golden light in the center of the Alchemical Array vanished as if it had never existed. Only a silver ring with a red gem remained, quietly resting in the Magic Array.
"Congratulations, your ring is perfect." After retracting the Magic Barrier, Teacher Luo Zhen closed his eyes to communicate with the Alchemical Array. He then opened his eyes and smiled at Liam.
Liam walked to the Alchemical Array, picked up the ring, and dripped a drop of blood on it. He then put it on and began to communicate with the ring. He discovered that the ring could perfectly replace the function of a wand. Additionally, the ring possessed powerful defensive capabilities, providing protection against mental, magical, and physical attacks. Most importantly, the Flame of Eternity at the core of the ring could resist the rules of death contained in the Killing Curse, giving Liam an additional advantage when facing Voldemort.
Of course, everything is balanced. The ring itself had no offensive power. On one hand, the ring's craftsmanship primarily came from the Elves, so like the Elven Three Rings, it was more inclined toward defense rather than offense. On the other hand, the user of the ring was Liam himself. A defensive ring could better compensate for his weaknesses in battle.
After Liam finished inspecting the ring, Rogen smiled and said, "Give it a name. The power of this ring deserves a unique name."
"Narya, I'll call it Narya." Liam named the ring after the one in Gandalf's possession. On one hand, it was to commemorate the ring's origin. On the other hand, it indicated that the ring's power came from the Flame of Eternity.
When Liam spoke the name, the ring flashed. The Quenya word "Narya" then appeared on the inside of the ring.
"That name suits your ring well", Rogen said happily. "I'm glad to see my student taking another step forward on the path to Truth."
In the following days, Liam stayed at Rogen's home to learn how to master the ring and work on other projects. When he felt he had accomplished his goals, he bid farewell to Teacher Luo Zhen and returned to the Multiverse General Store. Of course, Rose Crystal was temporarily left behind, as she planned to spend more time with her sisters.
