Chapter 380: Boy or Girl?
Chapter 380: Boy or Girl?
To help Onion Duck with its muscle training, Naoki found two professional fitness trainers that very night.
At 7:00 pm, the brightly lit Pokemon Tavern was bustling with Pokemon of all kinds, drinking and reveling in merriment. Some were residents of the town, while others were wild Pokemon who had heard of the tavern's fame and come to explore.
Among this lively crowd were the two trainers Naoki had in mind for Onion Duck's fitness journey.
As Naoki entered the tavern with Onion Duck, his gaze swept across the room, finally settling on two towering figures with bulging muscles and sturdy builds—the mighty Machamp.
These Machamp belonged to Keli, and they made it a nightly ritual to unwind at the Pokemon Tavern
Naoki approached them and greeted, "Good evening, Machamp."
The Machamp turned their heads, wooden cups in hand. Recognizing Naoki from the ranch, they replied with a casual, "Ni hi?"
Naoki glanced at Onion Duck by his side and explained, "You see, Onion Duck here wants to build a strong and muscular body like yours, so I was hoping to seek your guidance on fitness training."
The Machamp understood.
Such a request was a simple matter for them.
With their honest and kind nature, they readily agreed.
So, the next evening, when the Machamp returned to the tavern, they brought along a few sets of dumbbells.
They located Naoki and Onion Duck and proceeded to demonstrate their secret to a powerful physique.
The Machamp lifted their four sturdy arms high, each gripping a heavy dumbbell. They raised and lowered their arms in a rhythmic motion, showcasing their strength.
This exercise was incredibly effective for building arm strength.
Onion Duck watched intently from the side.
After a while, the Machamp paused and placed the dumbbells in front of Onion Duck, gesturing for it to give it a try.
Onion Duck eyed the unique black dumbbells curiously; it had never seen anything like them before.
Moreover, the Machamp had made lifting them look so effortless that Onion Duck assumed it could do the same.
With determination, Onion Duck extended its wings and tightly gripped the handles of the dumbbells, attempting to lift them.
However, the dumbbells on the ground didn't budge.
"Ga!"
Onion Duck exerted all its might, but it only ended up panting and exhausted, ultimately plopping down on its backside on the grass, breathless.
"Ga..."
Naoki stepped forward to inspect the dumbbells, and his eyes widened in surprise.
Unbeknownst to him, these were an incredible 300 kg heavyweights, almost equivalent to the weight of a Golurk! And the Machamp were holding one in each arm, totaling 1200 kg with all four arms combined.
1,200 kilograms, or 2,400 pounds...
No wonder they were called Machamp; their strength was truly awe-inspiring! Naoki stood there, mouth agape, staring at the formidable Pokemon before him.
The Machamp, on the other hand, looked thoroughly confused.
They scratched their heads with their free hands, contemplating the situation. After a while, they realized that the dumbbells they used might be too heavy for the duck Pokemon.
The Machamp fell into deep thought.
Soon, a light bulb moment struck.
"Ni hi!"
One of the Machamp came up with an alternative training method.
It lowered its body, supporting itself on all fours, and began to demonstrate push-ups to Onion Duck.
After observing for a while, Onion Duck felt confident that it could give this exercise a try.
"Ga!"
Onion Duck nodded and, mimicking the Machamp, used its wings to support its body and started doing push-ups.
The Machamp guided Onion Duck through the proper form, and once it got the hang of it, they nodded their heads in satisfaction, "Ni hi!"
"Thank you so much," Naoki said gratefully to the Machamp. "Consider your drinks on the house tonight as a token of my appreciation."
When the Pokemon Tavern first opened, Naoki's plan was to not charge Pokemon patrons, as he wanted to help those in need.
Besides, the Pokemon didn't have any money...
However, he had overlooked one crucial aspect: most of the town's Pokemon had families.
For instance, Miss Jun Sha's Kadabra, Ke Li's Machamp, and the Fire Brigade's Ludicolo...
Here is the revised sentence:
After all, the Machamp and Kadabra were their Pokemon, and they couldn't have them freeloading indefinitely. So, each morning, before the Pokemon set off, their trainers would give them some spare change to hand over to the caretaker.
As for the wild Pokemon, their situation was a little different.
Over time, this became a habit for them.
Hearing Naoki's words, the two Machamp smiled kindly and turned back to their drinks.
And so, Onion Duck embarked on its fitness journey.
To support Onion Duck's strength training, Naoki specially bought a pair of dumbbells suitable for it from Shi Chin Town the next morning and brought them back to the ranch.
The onion field became Onion Duck's gym.
As it exercised with its dumbbells and did push-ups, the other Slowpoke from across the river would waddle over to watch.
They maintained their vacant stares, and after a while, they would wander off, uninterested.
Except for one Slowpoke who stayed.
Naoki noticed that this particular Slowpoke had a peculiar glint in its eyes when it looked at Onion Duck, a glint that reminded him of Ash Ketchum's Charmander when it saw Nurse Joy's Wigglytuff!
Naoki was bewildered.
What was going on?
Could this Slowpoke have fallen for Onion Duck?
Oh dear!
But could a Slowpoke and an Onion Duck even produce eggs?
What egg group did these two Pokemon belong to?
Naoki rushed back to his room and immediately searched on his computer to find out.
To his surprise, he discovered something quite alarming—both Pokemon were in the Field egg group, which meant they could indeed produce eggs!
However, Naoki couldn't be sure if the Slowpoke truly had romantic feelings for Onion Duck.
To confirm his suspicions, he decided to discreetly observe the two Pokemon over the next few days.
Onion Duck had a very disciplined daily routine.
After consuming a few berries in the morning, it would patrol the onion field to ensure no bird Pokemon were sneaking in to steal vegetables. Only then would it begin its daily workout.
Lifting its dumbbells and practicing push-ups.
And every time Onion Duck exercised, that particular Slowpoke would come to watch.
Occasionally, the Slowpoke would catch small fish from the river and offer them to Onion Duck, but Onion Duck, being uninterested in fish and preferring to focus on its training without distractions, would refuse.
The Slowpoke would leave, looking dejected.
Onion Duck, completely absorbed in its fitness regimen, didn't notice the Slowpoke's unusual behavior.
Eventually, the Slowpoke, disheartened by the lack of reciprocation, left and returned to the riverbank, never coming back to the onion field.
Naoki was speechless.
"Roar?"
Suddenly, Naoki heard Axew's voice from behind him.
Curious about what Naoki was doing lurking by the onion field's fence, Axew had come to investigate.
Watching Onion Duck in the distance, Naoki couldn't help but feel a sense of awe.
Pokemon and their pure, uncomplicated love lives!
He suddenly remembered something and turned to ask Axew, "By the way, Axew, didn't you have a crush on another Axew in the past?"
He recalled how Axew used to be so clumsy, unable to learn any moves and always losing battles. Every night, it would sulk by the Big Pot Lake, gazing mournfully at the moon.
Naoki remembered it clearly.
Hearing this, Axew seemed a bit embarrassed.
It let out a series of "Axew, Axew" sounds, indicating that it was all in the past and that it no longer had feelings for that Axew.
Naoki understood Axew's sentiment and suddenly became curious about something else. "So, do you plan to remain single for the rest of your life and not find another Axew to have eggs with?"
"Axew, Axew!" Axew shook its head, indicating that it had no intention of being alone forever. It had Naoki and everyone else at the ranch, and as for having eggs, it didn't seem too concerned about that.
Although Naoki couldn't understand Axew's exact words, he could gather the general idea from its gestures and tone.
Not pursuing egg-laying, enjoying a carefree life, not experiencing heat cycles, but still being open to falling in love and having eggs with a special Pokemon...
Pokemon truly were fascinating creatures!
At noon, after finishing lunch, Naoki went upstairs to check on the Axew egg that was placed in a baby crib.
The egg, laid by one of the ranch's Axew workers, had beautiful light blue patterns similar to a Mini Dragon's, and its large size seemed to radiate a vibrant vitality.
This Axew egg was a symbol of the love between the two Axew working at the ranch, and Naoki and the Ai Guanshi siblings were helping to care for it.
Each time he thought about this, Naoki couldn't help but wonder: Why did those two Axew trust them so much that they left their precious egg in their care?
Logically, shouldn't wild Pokemon parents want to watch over their eggs 24/7?
The noon sun shone brightly, streaming through the windows and into the room, as the sounds of Pokemon playing drifted up from downstairs.
Naoki took off his shoes and sat quietly beside the crib, reaching out to stroke the shell of the egg.
Over two months had passed since it was laid, and according to books, the incubation period for Garchomp eggs was quite long, taking almost ten months to hatch.
It was already the end of June, and by his calculations, the egg probably wouldn't hatch until sometime in January of the following year.
"Hmm, time sure is passing slowly!" Naoki thought to himself, hearing the cicadas outside, their chirping a constant backdrop to the summer days.
As he descended the stairs, he wished that by the time he reached the bottom, time would have fast-forwarded to the day the Lotom Phone was born.
But that was impossible.
In the evening, at 5:00 pm, Zach arrived at the ranch to pick up the day's harvest, just like he did every day.
As Naoki was counting the day's produce, Zach wiped the sweat from his face with a towel draped around his neck and grinned.
"This ranch has really taken off! I can hardly believe that in less than two years, it's transformed so much!"
Naoki smiled in response. "It's all thanks to the help of the Pokemon."
Hearing this, Goleton and Mototile, who were helping Naoki with the loading, couldn't help but beam with pride.
"Agas!"
"Gaou~"
"Haha! Good job, Golton and Motley!" Zach laughed heartily, looking around at the thriving ranch. "You're not getting any younger, my friend. It's about time you found yourself a wife, got married, and started a family. That way, you can run this place together, and life will only get better."
"......" Naoki was speechless. Was Zach trying to play matchmaker for him?
"It's not too soon!" Zach continued, undeterred. "Hey, do you have anyone you like?"
"No, not really..." Naoki shook his head. While the people in the Pokemon world were indeed attractive, it was more about the connection and feelings.
Since his arrival in this world, he hadn't even interacted with more than ten women casually.
There was Ke Li, Mrs. Tang Taisi, Ye Ci, and Dr. Olin.
But Ke Li wasn't a good match, nor was the Chief. As for Mrs. Tang Taisi and Dr. Olin, they were even less suitable.
Oh, wait, there was one person he almost forgot!
Naoki's mind drifted to Kishu.
The energetic girl.
The one he had met by chance in Brewing City, who had enthusiastically dragged him to the Chinese restaurant to sample the cuisine.
"Well, if you don't have anyone in mind, let me introduce you to someone!" Zach's eyes lit up at the prospect of playing cupid. "I have a friend with a daughter who's also a trainer. If you're interested, I can set up a blind date for you two to meet and see how it goes."
"......" Naoki was shocked. Blind dates existed even in this world!
The idea filled him with unexpected dread, and he waved his hands frantically. "No, no, it's fine. I'm not in a hurry. Really, I'm not."
"Alright then." Zach had to abandon his plan, at least for now. "But if you change your mind, let me know. I'm sure your grandfather would love to see you settle down too."
"......Okay." Naoki reluctantly agreed.
Zach smiled, finished loading the produce onto his truck, paid Naoki, and then drove off, leaving the ranch behind.
Naoki watched the truck disappear into the distance before turning back toward the house.
His gaze fell on the calendar hanging on the wall, and he realized that today was June 29th. Tomorrow was the day of the Summer Fireworks Festival.
Naoki began planning to take Eerie Kupo and Moonlight Eevee with him to watch the fireworks while also preparing dinner for the Pokemon at the ranch.
The next morning, the sun rose bright and early.
Naoki was in the midst of milking his goat mount when his sister, Ai Guanshi, came rushing over, looking flustered.
"Ai yi!"
Naoki paused, thinking something important had happened, and asked, "What's wrong? What's going on?"
Ai Guanshi pointed toward the entrance of the ranch, and Naoki followed her over to investigate.
There, they saw a beautiful girl with long blue hair and a pair of icy blue eyes. She had apparently arrived at the ranch without them noticing and had been observing the Garchomp in the field.
The "girl" turned her head slightly at the sound of their approach and, in the next moment, locked eyes with Naoki.
"Hello, I'm Gurusha, the Gym Leader of Frostbite Mountain," she introduced herself. "I was sent by the Chief to undergo special training here."
