Chapter 380: Abigail's Dark Arts Defense Class
Chapter 380: Abigail's Dark Arts Defense Class
Kappa nodded, lifted his shell slightly, retracted his head into it, and then squatted in the corner, ready to ambush the students.
His green body had now taken on a color very close to that of his surroundings, making him appear almost invisible at first glance.
"An Illusion Charm?" Professor Abigail exclaimed in surprise.
"Just a Color-Changing Charm," Vold explained. "An Illusion Charm would be too much of a cheat; Kappa's color change isn't that detailed."
This magical creature, like a chameleon, was skilled at hiding itself in its environment, but with a little care, its presence could still be detected.
Soon, the corridor echoed with a chorus of screams.
The mischievous Professor Abigail burst into laughter, showing no guilt for tormenting her students.
Vold quietly observed the scene, occasionally glancing at the professor.
It was hard to believe that such a professor could have ill intentions. She was the type to get into physical altercations with her students, taking hits without complaint and never using her assistant professor's authority to detain them.
Her teaching style was unique; she taught spells only once and then moved on to practical combat. Sometimes, students were beaten by her, sometimes they fought each other, and this included sneak attacks and the use of Muggle weapons.
The variety of methods she employed made it challenging to cope with, and even Vold had fallen victim to her tactics several times during Dark Arts Defense classes.
As long as one could defeat their opponent, any means would earn her approval—except for Dark Magic.
Professor Abigail rarely taught textbook knowledge or exam preparation; instead, she focused on teaching students how to deal with real-world dangers.
As a result, students who enjoyed this approach held her in high esteem, while those afraid of injury and combat left each class in tears, dreading the next one.
However, one thing was consistent among all students—
Everyone believed that Professor Abigail was genuinely teaching them survival skills, and what she taught was indeed useful.
Compared to her, Quirrell and Lockhart's classes felt like a waste of time.
In the corridor ahead, after a moment of chaos, a student finally remembered Kappa's weakness—
Michael jumped to the side, narrowly avoiding Kappa's swinging claws, and shouted, "Bow! Bow!"
Grawp, standing nearby, hesitated for a moment before being grabbed by Kappa, who pulled him by the feet and slammed him to the ground, eliciting a pained groan.
Fortunately, Godstein, not far away, heeded Michael's words. He suppressed his instinct to retreat and fear, stepping forward to stand in front of Kappa and performing a deep bow.
Everyone held their breath, watching intently.
The monster was strong, with agile arms, and highly alert. Anyone attempting to cast a spell would be interrupted by its attacks, and it even used others as shields to block spells.
In the narrow corridor, a group of students was flustered by the creature, providing a delightful spectacle for their unkind professor.
At this moment, Godstein stood motionless, staring at the ground, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Kappa tilted his head, studying Godstein for a few seconds, his eyes filled with malicious intent. But after a few seconds, seeing Godstein still maintaining his bow, Kappa slowly bent down.
"Splash!"
The water in the dish on Kappa's head spilled out, and the once formidable little monster immediately seemed to lose all its strength, plopping onto the ground.
The students cheered loudly, as if they had just defeated a formidable boss.
"It's too dangerous! Why would such a magical creature be allowed inside the school?" Lisa complained.
"It has to be Professor Hagrid! He always brings dangerous creatures into the school... This time, he's gone too far, even letting it into the castle!"
Pansy angrily kicked Kappa, who was lying motionless on the ground. "I say, someone like him doesn't deserve to be a professor, right, Draco?"
She turned to seek support.
Malfoy hesitated and, surprisingly, remained silent.
—Hagrid had promised to take him to see a fire dragon, but that promise had yet to be fulfilled! Mainly because Malfoy had attacked Crabbe last semester, he had detention every day this term, and so he hadn't found the opportunity.
He wanted Hagrid to give him detention, so they could visit the Forbidden Forest to see the fire dragon, but Hagrid hadn't agreed—
The Forbidden Forest at night was even more dangerous than during the day, and Hagrid dared not risk injuring the Malfoy family's only son again.
Malfoy's silence left Pansy a bit flustered, and she glared at Daphne beside her.
Daphne quickly chimed in, "Yeah, it's really too dangerous!"
Pansy angrily stomped on Kappa twice more.
At that moment, Professor Abigail also walked over and lazily said, "Lift your noble foot, Miss Parkinson! Stop damaging our teaching props!"
The students exclaimed in surprise, "Professor?!"
Professor Abigail pointed her wand, and the dish on Kappa's head was refilled with clear water.
Kappa regained its strength, crawled up from the ground, and the surrounding students quickly scattered.
Pansy immediately hid behind Daphne, who panicked and pulled Nott nearby to stand in front of the two of them.
Nott: "..."
He reluctantly stood in front, his body tense with caution.
This Kappa didn't actually harm anyone, but its method of attack was disgusting—pulling hair, poking noses, and wrestling were minor things; it would also sneakily touch people's bottoms, making the girls cringe at its sight.
"Alright, now that you've all seen Kappa, who knows the characteristics of Hinkypunks, Red Caps, and Grindylows?" Professor Abigail asked.
Several arms raised.
Professor Abigail scanned the room and nodded but didn't call on anyone to answer. Instead, she said, "It seems many of you didn't review our homework, but it's fine. You have five minutes to read."
The students looked at her in confusion—what did she mean?
Professor Abigail didn't offer an explanation but led the way into the classroom.
The Dark Arts Defense classroom had undergone a significant transformation. The desks and chairs were gone, replaced by numerous heavy curtains hanging from the ceiling, dividing the large classroom into multiple sections.
From the entrance to the blackboard, only a narrow passage remained, and on the enlarged blackboard, a five-minute countdown was ticking down.
"Vold, you were just with the professor, right? What did Professor Abigail mean?" Michael asked in a low voice.
Vold looked at the other students who were still in a daze and raised his voice, "In five minutes, the magical creatures the professor mentioned will start attacking. Get ready."
"What?!?!"
The students were all shocked, and the sound of flipping pages filled the classroom.
