Chapter 38: Hermione's Invitation
Chapter 38: Hermione's Invitation
Magic isn't something you can fully master just by learning it.
For example, a simple Incendio. Jerry can only use it to light a cigarette, while Dumbledore can incinerate thousands of dark creatures with it.
On one hand, Dumbledore's magical power is far superior to Jerry's, but more importantly, his understanding of Incendio is far beyond that of an ordinary wizard.
During the entire Defense Against the Dark Arts class, Quirrell didn't ask any questions, so Jerry naturally had no chance to earn House points.
However, he wasn't worried. The ultimate goal was to learn magic and enhance his strength. Gaining House points to boost his reputation could come later, and there would be plenty of opportunities.
Over the next few days, Jerry attended Herbology, Astronomy, Charms, and Transfiguration.
Since he spent long hours each night activating the "Brain Booster" function to rapidly memorize and study his magic books, and would periodically use it during classes, he was always the first to accurately name any herb and describe its properties when Professor Sprout asked.
In Astronomy, he could easily identify any star or constellation.
In Charms, while other young wizards were still learning the theory, he could successfully cast the corresponding spells from the textbook, though their effects were minimal, he used them with great proficiency.
As for Transfiguration, when Professor Mcgonagall finished her lecture and had everyone practice turning a matchstick into a needle, Jerry completed the task in less than ten seconds, becoming the first young wizard to successfully transform a matchstick into a silver needle, much to Professor Mcgonagall's surprise.
Because of this, Jerry earned over twenty House points for Slytherin in just four days, leaving a very positive impression on all the teachers.
He also gained a bit of fame across the different houses.
Unlike Hermione, Jerry, with his adult soul, made every young wizard who interacted with him feel that, while he was exceptionally talented, he wasn't as arrogant or difficult to approach as a typical Slytherin.
Instead, he was very humble and easygoing, and sometimes even joked around.
This made it so that, despite earning over twenty House points for Slytherin, the young wizards from the other three houses who had interacted with him felt more admiration than jealousy.
After all, aside from a young witch named Hermione from Gryffindor, no one had earned as many House points as Jerry.
Thus, the time came to Friday.
Friday only had morning classes, and it was Professor Snape's Potions class for Slytherin, which was the first time Slytherin and Gryffindor would be in the same class.
Previous classes had been with Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but never with Gryffindor.
The Potions classroom was in the dungeon, very close to the Slytherin common room.
Due to the lack of sunlight, the classroom felt somewhat eerie, especially with the glass jars lining the walls, each containing various animal specimens.
"Hey, Jerry, you're here early!"
"Hermione, you're pretty early too!"
Jerry had a habit of waking up early, so he had finished breakfast and arrived at the Potions classroom well before anyone else. He was the first young wizard to enter the classroom.
Hermione is usually the first one to enter the classroom for each class, so the two of them naturally ran into each other.
Since no one else had arrived, they naturally sat together and started chatting.
Because they were in different houses, they didn't share many classes, and the only time they could catch up was during meals. Otherwise, they rarely had the chance to chat.
The key was that Hermione was a bookworm and spent any free time studying.
Jerry, on the other hand, was also busy absorbing various magical knowledge to boost his strength.
"Jerry, are you free this weekend? How about we go to the library together?"
Hermione looked at Jerry with anticipation.
She had already memorized the first-year textbooks over the summer. After asking the prefect Percy, Hermione learned that Hogwarts had a library with many magical books to read.
So, she wanted to take the opportunity to visit it on Friday.
Just then, she ran into Jerry, who also enjoyed reading, and she invited him to go to the library together.
When Jerry heard the word "library", his eyes lit up.
He had been busy memorizing A History of Magic, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, and Magical Drafts and Potions over the past few days and hadn't had the chance to check out the Hogwarts library.
"Do you know where the library is?"
"I've already found out. It's on the second floor, in the far-right corridor!"
Hermione replied immediately.
"Great, let's go early on Saturday!"
Jerry nodded, agreeing to Hermione's invitation.
While Jerry and Hermione were chatting, the young wizards from Slytherin and Gryffindor started entering the Potions classroom one by one.
Harry and Ron sat next to Hermione and joined in the conversation.
The chat shifted from magical knowledge to the various magical experiences they had had at Hogwarts over the past few days.
However, Harry and Ron seemed a bit annoyed by Hermione's occasional "showing off" and lecturing, especially when she mentioned their embarrassing moment of being reprimanded by Professor Mcgonagall for being late to Transfiguration.
They were more interested in Jerry's story about the large window in the Slytherin common room that offered a view of the lake's bottom.
"Jerry, as a Slytherin, I must warn you that associating with blood traitors and mudbloods is not a good idea. You might be influenced!"
A proud and slightly sour voice suddenly rang in Jerry's ear.
Jerry turned his head to see Daphne, a blonde Slytherin witch, sitting next to him with her best friend Millicent.
Daphne had been attracted to Jerry's handsome looks and his calm demeanor in front of the Bloody Baron during the opening feast. His excellent performance in various subjects only reinforced her ideal image of a true Slytherin.
Unfortunately, Jerry seemed to prefer being alone. Whenever she tried to strike up a conversation, he would smile charmingly and chat briefly before ending the conversation to read his books.
While she found Jerry's quiet reading in the common room appealing, she was displeased to see him chatting happily with the Gryffindor students as soon as she entered the classroom.
There were three Gryffindors: one was a lowly mudblood, another was a blood traitor who had joined Gryffindor, and the third was the famous Harry Potter, who should have been in Slytherin but ended up in Gryffindor.
