Chapter 379: The Banquet Hall
Chapter 379: The Banquet Hall
"That's right, I can smell them!"
Lindsey followed the footprints on the ground, and Kaghi behind him soon also caught the scent of the two individuals again.
They ventured forward through the tunnel amidst the trees.
The terrain here was quite intricate, and on both sides of the tunnel, numerous wooden doors led to rooms with various functions.
Some places were clearly the owner's residences, while others were simply vast spaces that had yet to be put into use.
The design of the garden core.
Not only was it the control center of the world, but it also seemed to be intended for urban development.
Lindsey and Kaghi had been advancing here for half an hour.
The footprints on the ground hadn't changed, but the scent Kaghi detected was becoming increasingly clear.
The Sensor immediately reminded Lindsey:
"Lord Diablo, the scent in the air is much clearer now."
"The first person to arrive here was probably a day ahead of us. But the one with the horse scent is much more recent, he added.
Lindsey raised an eyebrow.
"Only a day ahead..."
"In that case, he might have been active in Echo Valley Town as well."
"Kaghi, you've been in Echo Valley Town all this time. Can you think of any suspicious targets?"
Kaghi's expression froze.
He first tried to identify the target by scent, but unable to find a similar individual, he shared the information he had heard:
"After the forest anomaly was resolved, many people fled into town from outside. There are too many suspicious targets to count. But if you insist—Razor is a rather unique individual."
"That guy is an Adventurer. When his crew entered the town, they said they found many treasures in the forest!"
"..."
"Impossible, it can't be them."
Lindsey immediately refuted Kaghi's speculation.
But hearing Razor's name from Kaghi's mouth, he couldn't help but feel relieved.
After the forest anomaly was resolved,
Lindsey had also notified Razor by dismissing his summons.
However, Razor had managed to reach Echo Town even before Lindsey.
It seemed that within the forest, the Adventurer and his companions had encountered more wonders than Lindsey was aware of.
"Hmm?"
At that moment, Lindsey paused in his tracks.
He noticed that the light in the tunnel ahead had suddenly become gentle and bright.
This wasn't a change in the luminescence emitted by the tree's texture.
Instead, it seemed like there was a larger, warmer light source ahead!
Kaghi immediately tensed up:
"Lord Diablo..."
Lindsey waved his hand and took the lead:
"Kaghi, stay behind me. I'll handle any danger."
"Just let me know if you notice anything."
As he spoke, Lindsey held the Ice Badger War Club in his hand.
With the Ice Law as his equipped weapon, this massive and dangerous war club could be used as a regular weapon.
Soon, Lindsey and Kaghi reached the end of the tunnel.
They stepped into the light, and the scene before them startled them.
The end of the tunnel opened up to a vast platform, its edges extending beyond the garden core and connecting to the boundaries of this space.
But this sight was different from the wonders at the world's edge.
Looking past the wooden railing at the platform's edge, they didn't see an endless void.
Echo Valley Town was nestled within a canyon, with a river flowing through its heart.
"This is... Echo Town?!" Kaghi exclaimed, having spent a month and a half in Echo Valley Town and thus being intimately familiar with the area.
He instantly recognized the scenery before him, but unlike when he was physically in the town, Lindsey now perceived a thin veil of mist hovering over the town.
The power of the Garden did not merely place one in a secondary phase; it made the Garden invisible and undetectable from the outside, yet those within could effortlessly observe the external scenery. As the night passed and the sun rose, its rays penetrated the mist, creating a warm glow within the Garden that Lindsey and Kaghi witnessed.
"What principle is at work here?" Lindsey wondered as he took two steps towards the fence, his gaze fixed on the mist. The Puzzle Module then displayed a corresponding message:
"Controllable Phase Membrane - By passing through this thin membrane, one can detach from the special phase and return to the main world."
"..." Kaghi was speechless.
"This function is incredibly powerful," Lindsey mused, immediately grasping the utility of this mechanism.
While outsiders couldn't see or enter the Garden, those inside could freely leave and, under safe conditions, launch attacks on unsuspecting enemies outside. This spatial rule surpassed all geographically defensible terrains.
For Lindsey, this terrain also implied something else.
Echo Valley Town was built along the riverbanks, allowing him to see the flowing water of Echo River.
"Could we fish here?" Lindsey wondered, a bold idea crossing his mind.
But just as he was about to explore this thought further, Kaghi called out to him, interrupting his reverie: "Lord Diablo, this seems to be a banquet hall, doesn't it?"
Lindsey turned, his gaze settling on the structure of the hall.
The platform, exposed at the Garden's edge, was spacious, with multiple tunnels leading deeper into the Garden.
Elegant tables and chairs adorned the platform, along with exquisite plates and wine glasses, hinting at past extravagance.
Lindsey could envision the scenes that once unfolded here—banquets held, and guests admiring the outside world through the mist.
Echo Valley Town didn't exist tens of thousands of years ago, making this view a breathtaking natural painting.
"Are there traces on these tableware?" Lindsey stepped closer, examining them carefully and discovering more details.
The tables and chairs on the platform, protected by the Garden's power, remained intact.
However, the plates and cups bore solidified chunks and residue.
"These are traces left by food," Kaghi observed.
"But over the long years, they've completely decayed."
"These remnants suggest that when the Garden was abandoned, people were still holding banquets..." Lindsey's thoughts raced as he connected the dots.
"Gulp," Lindsey swallowed.
Although the Garden had the Forest Will, it was uncontrolled and had lost its autonomy long ago.
After such a long time, could there be remnants of ancient dangers lurking within?
