Chapter 379: Clearwind Post
Chapter 379: Clearwind Post
Regardless of what the other student was thinking, whether he was called stubborn or unreasonable, there was one thing for sure: he was not going to give up on his convictions.
"Alright, if you want to leave, go ahead. I won't stop you," Li Qian said, waving his hand and starting to walk back. He ordered Seven Sons and Little Six to carry the companion beasts and beastmasters.
Just as Li Qian was walking back, two students from Dong Ning's team, the one who had just spoken and another with an oily face and powdered complexion, directly leaped onto their flying companion beasts.
"You..." Su Su, seeing this, immediately realized their intentions and shouted at them.
"Su Su, there's no need to hold them back," Dong Ning said, her face darkening as she looked at Su Su and then glanced at the two students preparing to leave, her eyebrows furrowed.
Upon hearing this, Su Su fell silent, though it was clear she was still angry.
The two male students hesitated for a moment after hearing Dong Ning's words, knowing that if they left, their relationship would be severed from then on.
But facing a life-or-death crisis, they couldn't be blamed for wanting to survive.
As the two flying companion beasts flapped their wings and soared into the sky, the two students' figures disappeared into the horizon.
"We four are leaving too!" Lu Tianjiao approached, his tone complex.
Lu Tianjiao almost couldn't hold back and blurted out, "You guys are actually..."
Li Qian also looked at the two with questioning eyes. Although they hadn't spent much time together, he could tell that Lu Tianjiao and Feriqi were not the type to betray their trust.
Feriqi walked over, patted Li Qian's shoulder, and said with a meaningful tone, "It's not that we don't want to fight alongside you, but being with us might be more dangerous for you!"
Feriqi's words caused Li Qian's pupils to contract slightly, and he suddenly thought of something. He cupped his hands and said, "Then... let's part ways here. If fate allows, we'll meet again!"
"If fate allows!" Feriqi and Lu Tianjiao also cupped their hands in response, and then they too mounted their flying companion beasts and left the scene.
Zhou Yuanhao, puzzled, asked, "Li Qian, why are you..."
Li Qian knew what he was trying to ask, and shook his head in response, "Don't overthink it. Being with them might not be a good thing."
"And if they really want to leave, we can't stop them."
Bai Bingbing also seemed to realize something. She nodded in agreement and said, "Then, what should we do next?"
Li Qian looked at his watch, glanced at the scattered students, and sighed, "About fifty kilometers from here, there's a sentry post called 'Clearwind Post.' Let's go there to rest."
"Good!" The others nodded in agreement. With a plan in place, they didn't hesitate and immediately took action.
They ordered their companion beasts to carry the injured students and other beasts, and the group set off at a moderate pace towards Clearwind Post.
According to the map, they were only about fifty kilometers away from Clearwind Post, not too far. In fact, it took them just over ten minutes to reach the sentry post.
They presented their identification and entered the post one by one. The post resembled a small town, not very large in area.
To their surprise, there were quite a few people inside, including the guardian beastmasters stationed there, numerous adventurers, and some freshman teams participating in the Freshman Challenge Competition.
Their faces were not very pleasant, but this was a normal reaction given the circumstances.
The entire Mo Yuan City was in turmoil, and it was no secret that something was wrong within its borders.
Especially the freshmen participating in the Freshman Challenge Competition, many of them had narrowly escaped death to reach this place.
Not long after arriving at Clearwind Post, just as they were resting, a middle-aged man in a black tight-fitting outfit approached them.
"Students, you are all participating in this Freshman Challenge Competition. The current situation, even if I don't explain it, you should have some idea."
The middle-aged man introduced himself, "My name is Situ Jie, the commander of this Clearwind Post. I'd like to invite you to join the upcoming defense of the sentry post."
"With our current manpower, is it really appropriate to join the defense of the sentry post?" Li Qian spoke on behalf of the group, negotiating with Situ Jie.
Though he didn't finish his sentence, his meaning was already clear.
It was futile resistance, a clear case of biting off more than they could chew!
"Don't worry, student. Under normal circumstances, a deep-level dimensional rift won't last long," Situ Jie explained.
"Based on my experience, at most, it will last for about three days. Those companion beasts will naturally leave!"
Situ Jie spoke with confidence, and Li Qian believed him, but how would they survive those three days?
Three days might sound simple, but it wouldn't be easy to endure. Behind them lay hundreds of thousands of skeletons and flame corpses.
Even if only a small portion of them came, it would be more than they could handle.
With no choice but to stay, Li Qian could only nod in agreement. After all, there was no escape from a fallen nest. If they couldn't defend the post, they wouldn't be spared either.
Soon after agreeing to Situ Jie's request, he sent someone to deliver supplies, mostly recovery potions.
"We've been forcibly drafted!" Yan Qiuyang looked at the potions in his hand and smiled helplessly.
"Haha... In this situation, we're already lucky. If we were still outside, who knows what might have happened..." Zhou Yuanhao made a joke, but no one laughed, so he closed his mouth awkwardly.
The atmosphere became a bit awkward for a moment, and then Dong Ning suddenly spoke up, her voice filled with apology, "Sorry, about what happened earlier..."
"It's okay. In that situation, it's normal for them to make that choice..." Li Qian knew why she was apologizing and responded with a light tone.
He genuinely believed it was only human nature.
"And to be honest, their decision to return to Mo Yuan City at this time might not be a good thing!"
Even though Li Qian said this, Dong Ning's apology didn't lessen much.
That night, Li Qian and his group rested in the temporary accommodations arranged by Situ Jie. Suddenly, an ear-piercing alarm bell rang.
The group woke up quickly, and without waiting for anyone to notify them, they immediately rushed out of their quarters and onto the city wall.
