Chapter 378: The Idea of Fusing New Bloodlines
Chapter 378: The Idea of Fusing New Bloodlines
Thinking about this, Ivan had an idea and added the Boggart to his list of candidates for fusion.
Don’t underestimate the Boggart, a magical creature that is weak and non-aggressive. However, its ability to transform into anything is quite impressive and can be useful in many situations.
After all, the Boggart can transform into almost anything!
From inanimate objects like tables, chairs, and pots, to living beings such as wizards, small animals, and even magical creatures!
For example, in the Original Time, when Harry used the Boggart to practice the Patronus Charm, the Boggart transformed into a Dementor, making Harry experience the terror of facing a real Dementor, causing him to faint again!
This means that the Boggart’s transformation is not a simple illusion or a trick, but a real change in form with a high level of disguise, making it hard to detect!
Of course, Ivan was well aware that the Boggart’s transformed forms do not possess the original’s power and come with various limitations, such as being dispelled by loud laughter!
Otherwise, the Boggart’s danger rating wouldn’t be so low, and even young wizards could handle it.
But even so, it was enough to make Ivan interested!
Not to mention, the Boggart can sense the greatest fear of the person it faces, a perception that even his fifth-level Occlumency cannot block.
It is a magical creature that is weak in strength but has a very special ability!
It would be a perfect candidate for his next fusion!
The only question is whether the Boggart has blood?
Ivan rubbed his chin, recalling the descriptions of the Boggart he had read in books. When a Boggart dies, it usually explodes into a cloud of green smoke and dissipates, seemingly without blood.
However, this wouldn’t be a major obstacle. Ivan had seen in Slytherin’s research notes that for magical creatures without blood, key parts of their bodies could be used as substitutes.
Ivan became more and more fond of the idea and gradually increased the Boggart’s priority, placing it alongside the Thestral and the House-elf as the first sequence targets for this bloodline fusion.
He hadn’t yet decided which one to choose and planned to make the decision after the bloodline fusion Potion was completed.
Unconsciously, the group walked from the classroom to the Great Hall.
During dinner, Ron was still excitedly discussing the previous Defense Against the Dark Arts class. “Professor Lupin is just amazing! This is the Defense Against the Dark Arts class I’ve always been waiting for! I wonder what we’ll face next lesson? A three-headed dog? A giant? Or a mermaid from the lake?”
“Not likely! Since Hagrid isn’t teaching, it’s probably going to be a Red Cap or a Kappa!” Hermione opened her textbook, flipping to the chapters about the Red Cap and Kappa, which followed the section on Boggarts.
“That sounds pretty interesting, better than sitting in the classroom reading a textbook!” Ron’s excitement showed no signs of waning, but the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class was several days away, and he was already impatient.
Then Ron remembered how the Boggart seemed to turn into a silver ball when it approached Professor Lupin. “Why do you think Professor Lupin is afraid of a crystal ball?”
This time, no one responded. Hermione seemed to have an idea and quickly flipped through her book, while Harry sat brooding.
Ivan sliced a small piece of steak with his knife and fork, putting it in his mouth without a word. He knew that what Lupin was truly afraid of wasn't the crystal ball, but the full moon.
The full moon would cause werewolves to transform and lose their reason, often leading to significant destruction and exposing their identities as wizards, which would result in their being driven away and ostracized by other wizards.
Lupin must have experienced such situations many times, which was why he was afraid of the full moon!
However, Ivan didn't want Ron and the others to find out too quickly, to avoid them accidentally slipping and letting others overhear, which could cause trouble.
At the same time, Ivan noticed that Harry's expression was off. After swallowing the piece of steak, he looked at Harry and asked, "Harry, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
Hermione and Ron turned to look at him, their faces showing concern.
"Nothing", Harry shook his head, then hesitated for a moment before speaking dejectedly, "I just can't understand why Professor Lupin stopped me from facing the Boggart."
"Maybe he's just worried about you", Ron offered, but before he could finish, Harry interrupted him.
"I can handle it! It's not that difficult, right? Everyone else did it!"
Harry vented his frustration loudly, his expression grim.
He felt that Professor Lupin might have underestimated him because he fainted when he saw the Dementor on the train, thinking he was incompetent and that facing the Boggart would bring back the same scene.
Ron was startled by Harry's intense reaction and looked at him with uncertainty. Hermione opened her mouth to say something but didn't know how to comfort Harry.
"Oh, sorry, I got a bit carried away!" Harry quickly realized his tone was too harsh and apologized.
"Don't overthink it. Professor Lupin was probably just worried about scaring the others! You know, in most people's eyes, you're the Chosen One's arch-nemesis!" Ivan noticed that Harry seemed to be dwelling on it and explained.
"You mean Professor Lupin was worried about the Dark Lord appearing in class?" Hermione said, her eyes wide. She looked at Harry, and it seemed plausible.
"Yup, that's probably it!" Ivan nodded, confirming Hermione's guess.
Harry also thought about it and felt a bit better.
Due to the incident at the start of the term when he was "scared" unconscious by the Dementor, Malfoy had spread the news throughout Hogwarts. Over the past few weeks, Harry felt that people were looking at him differently.
Although Malfoy had been quieter recently, Harry still harbored resentment over the incident and wanted to prove that he wasn't as weak as Malfoy claimed.
"By the way, Ivan! Can you tell us why the Boggart took your form in class?" Hermione deliberately changed the subject to avoid further discussion of things that made Harry unhappy.
"Didn't I explain it in class? There's nothing else in this world that I fear!" Ivan's expression remained unchanged as he ate his dinner calmly and casually.
Hermione found it hard to believe such a flimsy reason, but she couldn't read anything from Ivan's face.
Harry, on the other hand, looked at Ivan with envy. He believed that the Boggart took Ivan's form because Ivan had nothing to fear, which confused the Boggart!
