Chapter 377: No More Pretending, I'm Revealing Myself! Actually, I...
The blond young wizard, who was facing off against Ivan from a distance, suddenly slammed on a floral hat and put on a frilly dress, his face showing a look of terror.
The students behind him immediately burst into laughter.
Ivan was momentarily stunned. This isn't right. Why did it turn out like this? Could it be that subconsciously, I think my cross-dressed appearance is funny?
"Ha-ha-ha!" Ivan decided to take action again, deliberately imagining the transformation he wanted.
The cross-dressed blond young wizard instantly turned into a short circus clown, dressed in an odd and peculiar outfit, wearing roller skates and juggling several colorful balls, flustered and unable to stop.
"Very good demonstration! Gryffindor gets ten points!" Lupin clapped, satisfied, and then asked, "The Boggart seemed to turn into your form just now. Could you explain why?"
Lupin had noticed the peculiar behavior of the Boggart earlier, seeing it about to say something before being interrupted by Ivan. He was quite curious.
Perhaps realizing that this might be an invasion of privacy, Lupin added, "Of course, you don't have to say anything if you don't want to. I just thought it might be interesting to know why someone would be afraid of themselves."
The young wizards all turned their attention to Ivan.
"No, there's nothing I can't say!" Noticing the gazes, Ivan shrugged indifferently, cleared his throat a few times, and continued with a serious expression.
"I'm sorry, but there's something I need to reveal to you all!"
Ivan's serious demeanor made everyone even more curious, but then they heard him say with a touch of sentimentality.
"Actually, I'm not a genius. I just use the time you all spend playing to study, so I've always been afraid of you discovering this!"
Harry and the others all rolled their eyes in unison, not even knowing where to start with their comments!
Lupin also shook his head helplessly. He remembered when he first arrived, he had asked a few of the professors about this young wizard, Ivan, after a chance encounter on the train.
From them, he learned that apart from being academically outstanding and ambitious, what the professors found most memorable about Ivan was his tendency to do and say strange things. It seemed that this was indeed the case.
Realizing this, Lupin decided not to dwell on the matter. Instead, he looked around and focused on Neville, who had performed the worst after the Boggart emerged. He gestured for Neville to come forward and take over from Ivan.
"Me?" Neville, hiding in the crowd, looked shocked, unable to believe that Lupin had called on him.
After confirming several times, Neville finally approached the Boggart, trembling.
The magic affecting the Boggart had weakened significantly during the delay, so as Neville approached, the Boggart began to transform again.
Soon, Professor Snape, dressed in a black robe with a stern expression, appeared before everyone, his eagle-like eyes glaring fiercely at Neville as he stepped closer.
"Ah!" Neville's face turned pale with fear, and he kept retreating.
"Quick! The spell!" Lupin reminded him from the side.
By now, "Snape" was right in front of Neville, his face almost touching his. Neville screamed in terror, raising his trembling hand, his wand poking "Snape" in the face.
“Ha—ha-ha-ha!”
With a crisp sound, “Snape” was thrown backward, landing face-first in the dirt. He struggled to get up, only to find himself transformed.
His black robes had turned into a frilly dress, and a tall hat now adorned his head, complete with a vulture that had been nibbled by insects. In his hand, he held a large red handbag.
The Boggart in the form of Snape seemed to notice this and awkwardly tried to cover his frilly dress with the handbag.
The young wizards around him burst into laughter. They had never seen the usually grim Snape dressed up in such a ridiculous manner, let alone acting so coy.
Neville's magic had truly given them a good laugh, and all the young wizards looked at him with admiration.
Neville also smiled happily, his fear now gone.
Ivan, however, shook his head in the back. Poor Neville would likely have a tough time in the next Potions Class.
Still, seeing Snape in a dress was amusing. While Ivan found it boring to imagine himself in such a costume, watching someone else was quite entertaining.
Next, Lupin had each of the young wizards face the Boggart one by one, casting spells to overcome their fears. The poor Boggart was thoroughly tormented by the group, eventually exploding into a cloud of smoke amidst their laughter!
For some special reason, Lupin did not let Harry face the Boggart.
So even though Lupin casually gave Harry ten points near the end of the class, Harry still felt somewhat resentful!
At the end of the lesson, Lupin clapped his hands to get everyone's attention and said:
“Alright, that's it for our first class! You all did an excellent job! You far exceeded my expectations. For your homework, please read the chapter about Boggarts in your textbook and write a brief summary... due on Monday!”
As he spoke, Lupin remembered his earlier promise and continued:
“Additionally, the best performer today was Mr. Hals! He not only cast the spell with the most composure but also helped his classmates overcome their fears. So, I will keep my promise and award him an extra thirty points!”
At the same time, the system notification sounded in Ivan's mind.
【Ding, Defense Against the Dark Arts class has ended.
Overall class evaluation: Satisfied (Excellent)
Evaluator: Lupin
Reward: 10 House Points
Additional bonus: 40 House Points】
Seeing the course evaluation in the system, Ivan was quite pleased. He had earned a total of fifty House Points, the most he had ever received in a single class!
The other young wizards, upon hearing Lupin announce the end of the class, were somewhat reluctant to leave. They thought it was the best Defense Against the Dark Arts class they had ever had, both new and interesting.
As they left the classroom, they continued to discuss the fun moments from the lesson. Seamus tried to recount in the hallway how he had tamed the terrifying female ghost the Boggart had transformed into.
Ivan, meanwhile, reflected on the Boggart's performance in class and suddenly realized that the abilities of this magical creature were quite impressive.
