Chapter 376: Departure
Chapter 376: Departure
"Are you concerned about the compensation?"
Before Jiang Cheng could speak, Gu Changlin beat him to it.
"Yes."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
"What kind of treatment are you expecting here?"
Jiang Cheng glanced at Gu Changkong and replied honestly, "Elder Brother Gu promised me that for every batch of pills I refine, I'll receive fifty percent of the profits."
Gu Changlin's pupils constricted slightly, and he also looked at Gu Changkong.
"Yes."
Gu Changkong nodded. "Elder Brother, Jiang Cheng isn't an ordinary person. His talent in alchemy surpasses even the alchemists in our family. I believe giving him half of the profits is entirely reasonable."
Upon hearing this, Gu Changlin burst into laughter.
"Good, Brother Jiang. Whatever treatment you receive from Elder Brother Three, you'll get the same from me. If you perform even better in the future, we can increase the profit-sharing ratio. We can split it sixty-forty, or even seventy-thirty."
"Elder Brother Changlin, I'm already more than satisfied with fifty percent."
Jiang Cheng quickly replied, knowing that in his current state, greed would only bring him harm.
Not to mention, the other party was merely making a promise; who wouldn't want more money? Gu Changkong sighed inwardly.
He had expected Gu Changlin to agree, but not this quickly.
This was also why he couldn't bring himself to compete with the other party.
"Do you have any other questions?"
"Yes, it's about my family. If I offend that person, not only me but my family will also be in danger."
Gu Changlin smiled,
"I thought it was something else. Since you're working for me, I'll naturally ensure your safety and that of your family. What if Gu Changjun wants to kill you? I have many people around me he wants to get rid of."
"That's right, Brother Jiang," Gu Changkong said with a bitter smile. "The defensive capabilities at my elder brother's place are more than ten times what I have. As long as you go there and don't go out, there won't be any issues."
"That's true."
Gu Changlin nodded.
"Not only you but also your family. Once you're in, it's best not to wander around. If you really need to go out, wait until the heat dies down first."
Jiang Cheng nodded.
Based on their brief interaction, Gu Changlin had left a good impression on him. If he had to make a comparison, Gu Changlin was like an enhanced version of Gu Changkong.
Of course, if Jiang Cheng didn't want to enter the Inner City, there was another option—he could call Elder Qin. He believed that if he chose to join, the other party would send someone to pick him up promptly.
This method was safer, as even with Gu Changjun's long reach, he couldn't extend it into the deep mountains.
However, doing so would, first, be somewhat unfair to Gu Changkong. It was a rare opportunity for the latter to enter the Inner City, and if Jiang Cheng abandoned him, he would have a hard time explaining to Gu Changlin.
Second, who knew what the others around Elder Qin were thinking? What if, after Jiang Cheng arrived, they treated him as a mere tool for alchemy? He wasn't even a Grandmaster, and if that happened, he would have no one to turn to.
"Elder Brother Changlin, I'll go back and have my family pack our bags."
"I'll come with you."
Gu Changlin smiled.
He wasn't really worried about Jiang Cheng running away, but it was better to be cautious in such matters.
"Alright."
Jiang Cheng turned to Gu Changkong and took out the Mystic Turtle Shield from his body, handing it over.
"Elder Brother Gu, I'm grateful for your care during this time. I'll repay the money I owe you as soon as possible.
"It's fine, no rush."
Gu Changkong took it and patted Jiang Cheng on the shoulder. "I should be thanking you. Without you, I might not have... Well, let's just say we'll have opportunities to meet in the future."
As he finished speaking, even he felt a little uncertain.
Even if he wanted to find Jiang Cheng, Gu Changlin might not agree.
Soon, they arrived at Jiang Cheng's home, and after listening to their story, the three of them, including Elder Chen's wife, were caught off guard and felt reluctant to part ways.
After living here for a few months, they had become a part of the community, and the people around them were all kind and welcoming.
But now, they had to enter the inner city, an unknown place.
Jiang Cheng was also at a loss.
He also wanted his family to stay here to avoid the hassle of traveling, but as long as Gu Changjun didn't take action, the defense forces here could hold them back.
They quickly packed their belongings and boarded the larger flying vehicle at the back.
"Let's go, Elder Brother Gu."
Hearing this, Gu Changkong felt a tinge of sadness.
"Yeah, once we arrive, focus on your alchemy. Your brother won't mistreat you."
With a loud rumble, the two flying vehicles slowly rose into the air, reaching a height of over two hundred meters before heading towards the high walls of the inner district.
Jiang Cheng gave his family a reassuring look, then turned his gaze towards the distance. As they drew closer, he gradually felt the grandeur of the wall.
The height was probably over a kilometer, seemingly made of some kind of metal, smooth as a mirror, and shimmering with a faint glow.
As they got closer, he noticed countless 'windows' on the wall, with numerous flying vehicles entering and exiting.
Many of them were similar in size to the one they were in.
There were also some as large as a house, accompanied by a group of smaller flying vehicles, and if you looked closely, you could see the cannons beneath the smaller vehicles.
Jiang Cheng averted his gaze and looked forward.
So that's how it was, the entrance to the inner district was above.
At a height of over a thousand meters, it was a straight vertical ascent, and even a Grandmaster couldn't climb it without a flying vehicle, unless they could fly.
Just then, the flying vehicle passed through the window, and the darkness outside suddenly gave way to a bright, open space.
It was like entering a steel forest, with countless skyscrapers over a hundred meters tall, and the aerial tracks crisscrossing in all directions, leaving one dazzled.
The flying vehicle quickly retracted its wings and hovered above the road below, continuing its journey.
Elder Chen's wife and the others were so shocked they couldn't speak.
Initially living in the slums, they had been amazed by the outer district, let alone the inner district.
Jiang Cheng felt a little better, but he was still in awe.
Although he had seen similar scenes in science fiction works before his transmigration, witnessing it firsthand was a different experience.
Unfortunately, he could only see the outside from within the flying vehicle.
Soon, the two flying vehicles landed on the ground and stopped at the entrance of a neighborhood.
Jiang Cheng knew they had reached their destination.
Looking up, he noticed that this neighborhood was different from Dinghu. Instead of low-rise buildings, several skyscrapers, each over a hundred meters tall, dominated the view.
"This place is different from the outside; space is limited."
Gu Changlin's voice sounded.
"Fortunately, the entire neighborhood is mine, and everyone inside is my person. So, you don't have to worry about safety. Let's go, I'll take you in for a look."
