Chapter 375: The Corridor Filled with Cheerful Laughter
Chapter 375: The Corridor Filled with Cheerful Laughter
Although these young wizards were casting the spell for the first time, fortunately, it wasn't difficult to learn, and nearly forty percent of the students successfully cast the spell!
For a moment, a large number of buttons, Every Flavor Beans, and candy wrappers flew towards Peeves.
Peeves let out a shrill scream and quickly dove into a suit of armor at the end of the corridor, not daring to come out again.
The young wizards laughed at Peeves' hasty retreat, and the corridor was instantly filled with cheerful laughter.
At this moment, Lupin turned to look at everyone, a smile on his face. "Those who successfully cast the spell, raise your hands so I can see who has learned this little magic?"
Hermione raised her hand high, and Harry was just a step behind her. Besides them, three other Gryffindor young wizards raised their hands.
Ivan, of course, was no exception; this magic was easy for him.
"Very good! Six of you. Because of your outstanding performance, I will give each of you five points!" Lupin clapped his hands and praised them. He then turned to comfort those who hadn't succeeded, patiently explaining the techniques of the spell.
In just a few minutes, the young wizards who had initially doubted Lupin's abilities had completely changed their minds and developed a much better opinion of him!
Ivan watched as Lupin easily won the favor of these young wizards and felt a bit reflective. If not for being a werewolf, Lupin would have done quite well in the magical world.
"Alright, let's go in!" Lupin opened the door to the staff room and then smiled mysteriously. "Dealing with Peeves was just the appetizer for this class. You need to be mentally prepared!"
Harry and the others followed Lupin into the room, feeling both nervous and excited.
"I can accept anything, just as long as it's not a spider!" Ron whispered to Ivan.
"Who knows, I heard there's a giant eight-eyed spider as big as a car in the Forbidden Forest. Maybe Professor Lupin will bring one in to show us!" Ivan teased, and Ron's face turned pale with fear.
Ivan, of course, knew that Lupin's class would involve dealing with a Boggart, but for Ron, it was no different from facing a giant spider, so he wanted him to be mentally prepared.
Stepping into the long classroom, Ivan looked around. The room's decor looked somewhat old, with wooden panels lining the walls and a pile of mismatched old chairs.
Lupin tapped his wand, and the chairs and tables were instantly pushed to the corners, clearing a large open space. He then prepared to wave his wand to close the door.
At that moment, a dark voice came from behind.
"Don't close the door, Lupin! I'd rather not witness your poor teaching methods."
Lupin raised an eyebrow and stopped his hand.
Ivan turned to see Snape approaching from the right, holding a vial of potion.
Ron and the others were quite offended by Snape's words. After what had happened with Peeves, they had developed a good impression of Lupin.
Harry angrily spoke up in defense.
"We all think Professor Lupin is teaching very well, at least better than—"
"Silence, Potter!" Snape interrupted Harry, his eagle-like eyes fixed on him. "Disrespecting a professor, Gryffindor loses thirty points!"
Harry's eyes widened, and the other young Gryffindors glared at Snape. If looks could kill, Snape would be riddled with holes by now.
They knew Snape must have overheard Professor Lupin speaking to them outside the door, as Lupin had just awarded them thirty points.
"Severus, I am the one teaching this class!" Professor Lupin frowned and emphasized his words.
However, just as Lupin was about to say more, Snape revealed the dark brown Potion in his hand, deliberately shaking it in the air before handing it to Lupin.
"This is your Potion. I've prepared it in advance, so don't come bothering me later!"
Lupin sensed something was off but silently accepted it, putting it away immediately. Snape didn't stay any longer and left briskly.
"Let's forget this little incident and continue with the lesson!" Lupin looked at the group of young wizards and changed the subject.
"Also, I've decided to award an additional thirty points to the student who performs best today. So, you'd better try your hardest!"
As Lupin finished speaking, a heavy door slam echoed from behind, and Harry and the others burst into laughter. They didn't need to turn around to guess that Snape's face must have been terrible when he closed the door.
Lupin also laughed along with everyone else, but his smile faded when his gaze fell on Ivan.
He suddenly realized why Snape had given him the Wolfsbane Potion at this moment.
Since Ivan was the creator of the Wolfsbane Potion, he would definitely recognize the Potion and deduce Lupin's identity.
Thinking about this, Lupin felt uneasy and stood frozen in place, which puzzled the young wizards.
At this moment, Ivan, who seemed to be chatting with Hermione, turned around and looked at the dazed Lupin curiously.
"Professor Lupin, is something wrong? Are we not continuing the lesson?"
"Oh, no, nothing at all!" Lupin quickly snapped out of his daze. He observed Ivan's expression and, finding no signs of suspicion, let out a sigh of relief. He thought Ivan had been chatting with Miss Granger and hadn't noticed the Potion.
However, what Lupin didn't know was that Ivan had been acting.
When he saw Snape take out the Wolfsbane Potion, Ivan had guessed that Snape was trying to use him, the "Defense Against the Dark Arts professor killer", to drive Lupin away.
After all, Dumbledore must have required Snape to keep Lupin's werewolf identity a secret. Given Snape's intense dislike for Lupin, it was inevitable that he would try to sabotage things privately.
In the Original Timeline, Snape had briefly substituted and taught Harry and the others about the habits of werewolves and how to identify one, hoping that a clever student would discover Lupin's identity.
This time, he was plotting against Lupin.
Unfortunately for Snape, Ivan had known about Lupin's werewolf identity for a long time. He had no intention of targeting Lupin. Apart from being a werewolf, Lupin was a competent professor.
