Chapter 375: Indescribable
Chapter 375: Indescribable
Rod didn't believe a word of Mira's claim about the necklace not matching. How could he not know if it looked good on her or not?
Ever since they decided to save up together, Mira's spending habits had changed.
Whenever she encountered something she liked, she would hesitate for a long time. If it wasn't a necessity, she would decide to put it off, and if the price was too high, she would give up entirely.
For a girl who was so dedicated to their future, how could he not want to spoil her?
Although this would slightly affect their savings progress, one couldn't only think about the future. At this very moment, right now, this second, Rod couldn't wait to make her happy.
Mira suspected that Rod might have learned magic from Volian, allowing him to see through her thoughts and know whether she truly liked something or not.
But Mira felt that it wasn't the case. Just like the bag he gave her when they went to the Capital City, Rod was simply paying attention to her.
How could she continue acting like her 'old self' under these circumstances...
Mira bit her lip, pushed the necklace box into Rod's arms, and hummed with effort, "Do I have to put it on myself?"
She was even cuter like this.
Rod opened the necklace and looked at Mira.
Mira turned around, facing away from Rod, and lifted her hair, waiting for him to help her put it on.
Hmph, such a straight girl.
Rod deliberately stood up, walked around to Mira's front, and encircled her neck, surprising her.
The designer of the necklace must have had a unique idea, as the tiny clasp and ring were especially difficult to put on.
Mira could feel his fingers occasionally touching her neck, and the warm breath from his mouth brushing against her ears and neck.
Her ears began to redden.
Finally, after he finished fastening the necklace, Mira felt a kiss on her neck.
She glanced at the kitchen with a bit of panic. Although it was a normal affectionate gesture, she didn't want her family to see it.
When she turned back to Rod, he was looking at her seriously and said, "It really does look good on you."
The blush on her cheeks made it even more charming.
Especially with today's outfit, the bold clothing choice combined with her shy expression created an incredible contrast.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Elfman figured it out. It was probably his sister's mischievous idea, not a complete return to her old self.
Rod slipped into the kitchen before Mira could scold him, urging Elfman to help him carry the plates out.
After setting the table, Elfman also took out a small box and gave it to Mira.
Inside was a bottle of perfume.
Mira happily accepted it. It was already great that her younger brother didn't give her a dumbbell; at least he wasn't completely obsessed with muscles.
Rod used his fingertips to cast a spell, igniting the '19' shaped candles on the cake.
"Make a wish?"
"Make a wish, sister."
"Mmm," Mira closed her eyes under their gaze, holding her hands to her chest, and made her wish earnestly.
A smile slowly formed on her lips, and then she opened her eyes and blew out the candles.
Bang! Bang! Two soft sounds came from behind, and Mira turned to see colorful ribbons and glitter falling gracefully.
Rod and Elfman each held a party popper, their faces beaming, "Happy Birthday!"
"Thank you!" Mira's smile was radiant, "I'm so happy, truly happy."
She picked up the knife and first made a symbolic cut on the cake, then divided it into three small pieces, and they each ate a little.
But the main focus was on the meal.
The three clinked their glasses, and amidst the splashing wine, there was their anticipation for the future.
...
After a short rest, the three headed back to the Guild according to Mira's wishes.
They left a bit of the uneaten cake for dessert and prepared to take the rest to the Guild to share with everyone.
When they left, Mira maintained her current outfit, adding only a small sun-protective jacket.
Her familiar appearance evoked memories from two years ago for many people, and those who had been beaten up in the past were especially startled.
Even as Mira happily distributed cake to everyone, her smile radiant, the others only realized that Mira was still Mira, occasionally donning her past attire.
Perhaps it also represented her complete acceptance of her past.
Those who sympathized with Rod soon began to feel envious.
Mira's fiery appearance from the past, coupled with her current gentle personality, made Rod incredibly lucky.
The two of them delivering cake side by side resembled a newlywed couple distributing wedding favors to their friends.
However, all they could do was take a big bite of the cake, some tasting sweetness, others sensing sourness.
"Happy birthday!"
Mira received blessings, and Rod thanked everyone with her.
Although it wasn't an official birthday celebration at the guild, everyone was happy to have a drink, wishing Mira a happy birthday.
After the commotion, it was back to the busy work.
At the current pace, the roof would be sealed in about half a month, and if the renovation progresses faster, the new guild will be completely finished by mid-September.
Completing a three-story building with a rooftop clock tower, along with basement and front and back yard renovations, in less than two months, is already highly efficient.
This is all thanks to everyone's overtime work and the Guild Master's brilliant leadership (referring to himself rushing to the front line, leaving miscellaneous tasks to others).
After a busy day, it was finally time to clock out.
The two of them stayed at the guild to finish up some closing tasks and then meditated.
Elfman chose to practice at home alone, not wanting to join their gathering.
When the meditation ended, Mira stretched lazily.
Rod quietly watched from the side, his heart stirred by the demoness.
If anyone else looked at her like this, they might get scolded, but when Rod looked at her like this, she only felt happy.
Mira hugged Rod's arm, "Let's go."
"Before going home, let me take you to a place first."
Mira didn't ask where, "Okay."
A few minutes later, Mira looked at the familiar building before her and asked, "You mean your home?"
"Of course, it's not just that."
Rod scooped Mira into his arms and jumped onto the roof, setting her down, "Wait for me a moment."
The lighting was dim, and Mira only saw him jump down, retrieving something and placing it on the ground.
"So beautiful!"
Mira leaned against Rod's embrace, gazing at the beautiful fireworks lighting up the night sky, as if envisioning their happy future together.
When the last firework soared, Mira turned around, hugged Rod's neck, and kissed him.
Rod moved her legs onto his lap, one hand gently caressing her knee-high socks, the other slipping under her armpit.
Mira didn't mind his little actions; in fact, she had been enjoying these little actions more and more lately.
Mira felt her leg being rubbed by something, but instead of running away, she hugged Rod tighter, her leg... moving slightly.
Rod's heartbeat skipped a beat, and his breathing became heavy, though he pretended to be calm, his embrace of Mira tightened.
He wanted to carry Mira downstairs.
Mira stopped Rod, but she lightly bit her lip, her leg rubbing against him again.
Rod hugged Mira's legs tighter, his eyes meeting hers.
In that moment, an unspoken understanding passed between them. Mira's face turned crimson.
