Chapter 375: Burn it Down
The massive head of fat, its gaping maw, triggered something ancient and primal within Sag at that moment.
On that day, humanity finally recalled the fear of being dominated.
"Galaxy Shockwave!"
Boom!
A colossal crater was blasted into the enormous head, penetrating to an incredible depth.
Sag's fist remained in the striking posture, surrounded by flickering black and red lightning.
However, it was after this punch that he clicked his tongue, for the hole that had been blasted open was slowly healing, the fat writhing and sealing the wound.
The massive face seemed unaffected, its ugly features restoring themselves after the injury.
"Ouch, ouch! But it's so delicious!"
Vurngarde struck a pained pose, then suddenly opened his mouth again, relentlessly biting down.
"To withstand Haoshoku Haki? Either your meat is too thick, or my strike didn't hit the mark?"
Haoshoku needed to be used at close range to affect others, and this creature's fat was so thick that Sag couldn't even discern where its body ended and began. Clearly, its true body wasn't in front of him.
Not only was Haoshoku ineffective, but his pressure point strikes were also having little effect. While they certainly packed a punch and hadn't lessened in power, they were useless against this mass of fat. No damage was being inflicted, no matter how much he blasted it.
This thing was like a physical immunity monster.
Sag's arm trembled, and his cape fluttered as he suddenly unleashed a burst of wind blades. As the creature bit down again, the blades exploded, slicing it into several segments that fell to the ground, transforming into a soft, mud-like substance.
But even with its head sliced apart, the enormous mountain of fat shifted and morphed, forming a new head.
It was completely unfazed.
"I am the king, and my orders are absolute. I hereby decree that I shall devour you!"
Vurngarde, frustrated at being denied his meal twice, caused the fat mountain to quiver violently. Its rage was evident, and its head seemed to swell with another layer of fat, growing even larger. Its gaping maw widened, and it descended upon Sag, intending to swallow him whole.
Whoosh!
With a whistling sound, a more intense burst of wind blades erupted, slicing the massive face into several segments and pushing forward to tear through the flowing fat.
Taking advantage of the opening created by the wind blades, Sag roared, "Let me see what you really are!"
"Hey, what is that thing? Is that really King Vurngarde?"
The sudden eruption of combat startled the chefs, Grace, and the others, causing them to quickly scramble to the side. As Grace began to retreat, he grabbed one of the chefs and asked, "Is that really King Vurngarde?"
"Yes, that's His Majesty, King Vurngarde," the elderly chef confirmed.
The chef that Grace had grabbed was an old man who softened his initially wary gaze at the sight of Grace. "You're Grace, aren't you? I've seen you several times before, trying to enter the royal palace, only to be stopped. I've also heard about what you've been doing... I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do."
"As for His Majesty, King Vurngarde, he was fine before his coronation, but everything changed afterward."
During the reign of the previous king, the Cloud Mountain Kingdom had been prosperous, boasting a large population and an abundance of chefs and culinary delights, amassing considerable wealth.
Back then, Vurngarde had displayed somewhat normal behavior, albeit with a strong penchant for fine cuisine and a voracious appetite.
However, everything changed after the old king's death and the new king's ascension.
Vurngarde's insatiable hunger and greed erupted, and with the power of his position, he quickly transformed the ruling class to suit his desires.
King Vurngarde demanded more money, more food, and traded away everything of value to obtain rarer and more exquisite ingredients to satisfy his gluttony.
Chapter: The King's Madness
"It seems that King Vurngarde's greed has exceeded mere gluttony," the former head chef lamented. He had initially thought that the king was simply indulgent, but it soon became apparent that it went far beyond that.
Vurngarde was a special individual who had eaten the Heso Heso no Mi, a Fat-Fat Fruit that granted him the ability to control all the fat in his body. With this power, he could absorb food and convert it into fat with zero digestion, leading to insatiable greed.
And he, being naturally fond of food, had only fueled his obsession further with his unceasing consumption.
He could eat as much as he wanted without consequence, and his control over his fat knew no bounds. Thus, his greed knew no bounds.
At first, he sold off valuable items from the royal palace to fund his culinary pursuits, and his greed only grew. Under the influence of a newly appointed advisor named Herod, he organized the so-called Chef's Conference and expelled the remaining chefs from the kingdom.
The head chef chose to turn a blind eye at first, not only because of the king's orders and his own dismissal but also because, most importantly, they had not yet been banned from cooking.
Although they served the royal family, their exceptional culinary skills often led them to be invited by wealthy individuals to prepare meals for a hefty fee.
However, things took a turn for the worse as they were subjected to various taxes, including a tax on their cooking and ingredients. Eventually, it reached a point where their cooking utensils were confiscated, leaving the Cloud Mountain Kingdom without its fiery passion.
The head chef felt helpless, witnessing the kingdom's rapid decline. In just three years, the once prosperous nation, carefully governed by the previous king for thirty years, had deteriorated to the point where thousands starved to death annually.
"King Vurngarde spent all the money on exotic ingredients to satisfy his greed. His appetite only grew, and as a king, he should have cared for his people. I fear that one day he might even consider tasting human flesh." The old chef sighed, pushing Grace away. "Run now! The king has gone mad, and there's nothing we can do to stop him!"
Whoosh!
Another burst of wind blades sliced and shredded the blob of fat, causing it to fall to the ground in oily chunks.
By now, the surrounding area was slick with grease, forming small puddles of oil.
Sag gazed at the ever-growing mounds of fat, his attacks momentarily halted.
While the wind blade attacks were effective, they faced the same issue as before—the fat was just too thick, and he couldn't pinpoint the creature's 'core.'
Sag's observation haki allowed him to foresee the future, not to see through objects. This 'being' was right in front of him, and there was no concept of strength or weakness at play here.
The fat was a part of it, an entity in itself.
It wasn't healing; instead, a massive amount of fat was continuously flowing forward, replacing what had been lost.
The attacks were not reversible, but the sheer volume of fat created an ability akin to infinite regeneration.
This also made it challenging for Sag to locate the creature's core, though his primary concern was his disgust at the thought of delving deeper into the repulsive mass of fat.
Who would willingly dive into a pile of fat, especially human fat?
"Forget it," Sag muttered.
As he ceased the wind blade attack, the fat blob lifted its massive face and lunged at Sag once more.
Boom!
Sag casually waved his hand, and the force of his released Conqueror's Haki blasted the fat away.
Then, he turned to Grace and extended his hand. "Give me that chemical bomb of yours. We can just set this whole mess on fire."
