Chapter 373: Don't Make Predictions Before a Mission
Chapter 373: Don't Make Predictions Before a Mission
"Obito, can you share some of your experiences from your internship with me?" Tobirama asked Obito during a break in their training.
Tobirama had previously discussed with Mu Yue about participating in an internship and then graduating early, so he wanted to gain some insight from Obito's experience.
Originally, Tobirama had intended to ask Kakashi, as he believed the latter would be more reliable in this regard. However, Kakashi seemed to be occupied with something else and hadn't shown up at the Southern Forest today.
Ever since Minato returned, Obito and the others had been splitting their time between him and Mu Yue, training with Minato for a few days before returning to Mu Yue for further instruction.
"Why are you asking about this, Tobirama? You're only in your second year, right?" Obito scratched his head, looking perplexed.
"I plan to graduate early and participate in this year's internship as a second-year student," Tobirama explained.
"Oh, I see," Obito said, his expression clearing in understanding.
Obito didn't find it strange that Tobirama wanted to graduate early. After all, Kakashi had graduated without even completing his first year, and Tobirama was capable of defeating Kakashi at the same age. In his opinion, there was no reason for Tobirama not to graduate early.
"Then you've come to the right person, because I was one of the top performers during my graduation internship!" Obito boasted, puffing out his chest with pride.
Their squad had achieved the highest quantity and quality of completed missions. The reason he added "one of" was that Might Guy was in his squad.
"Wow, that's impressive," Tobirama praised, clapping his hands.
Although his applause and smile lacked enthusiasm, he knew that Obito would still appreciate the gesture.
As expected, a proud smile soon appeared on Obito's face.
"First of all, remember that intern ninjas are still ninjas. They take on client missions, and unexpected situations can arise at any time. So, it's important to be cautious during missions," Obito began his explanation.
Tobirama nodded, realizing that Obito wasn't as unreliable in this area as he had imagined.
"Even if something unexpected happens, don't panic. As long as you work together with your teammates, you can overcome any difficulty," Obito encouraged, clenching his fist.
He was recalling the time they encountered the future Raikage, where he, Might Guy, and Kakashi persevered and ultimately defeated the Cloud ninja despite the odds.
"Obito, did you encounter a lot of unexpected situations during your internship?" Tobirama asked curiously.
From Obito's expression, it seemed like he wasn't just making casual conversation but speaking from experience.
"Well, there weren't any major incidents during the D-rank missions, but the C-rank missions seemed to attract trouble," Obito replied after a moment's thought. "For example, we encountered the future Raikage and had to face an enemy force of over a thousand ninjas."
"Internships are that dangerous?" Tobirama was incredulous; he thought he must have misheard.
Facing the future Raikage and engaging in a large-scale battle against a thousand ninjas sounded more like S-rank missions.
"Of course, it's dangerous. If it weren't for Teacher Mu Yue, we would've died during that mission," Obito stated matter-of-factly.
"But there weren't any casualties among the other intern teams, were there?" Tobirama felt something was amiss.
While he could sense that Obito wasn't lying, the content of his story seemed to defy common sense.
"I guess it's because the other teams could only take on D-rank missions. Our team was specially authorized by the Hokage to accept C-rank missions during our internship," Obito said, realizing the strangeness of the situation himself. He then recalled that the other teams simply didn't have the qualifications to take on C-rank missions.
Tobirama nodded, thinking it would be better to ask Kakashi about this another day.
"Oh, and one more thing," Obito said, turning serious. "Never say that a mission will go smoothly before you depart. Otherwise, something unexpected will definitely happen."
Obito believed that Kakashi was largely responsible for the frequent unexpected incidents. Kakashi always assured them that nothing would go wrong, but the more he guaranteed it, the bigger the mishaps they encountered.
Tobirama found this a bit odd, but seeing Obito's seriousness, he made a mental note of it.
After a tiring day of training, Tobirama returned home, exhausted.
He took a short rest and then began preparing dinner for himself.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
When Tobirama opened the door and saw who it was, a smile spread across his face, laced with a hint of pleasant surprise.
"Uncle Shinji," Tobirama greeted with a smile.
Standing at the door was his long-unseen uncle, Uzumaki Shinji.
Due to the war, Tobirama felt that his uncle had become even busier, sometimes spending months away from the village.
"Tobirama, it's been a while. You seem to have grown taller," Uzumaki Shinji replied with a warm smile.
"The last time I saw you, you were about this tall," Shinji added, gesturing with his hand.
"Come in, Uncle Shinji. Let me get you a cup of tea," Tobirama said, inviting his uncle into the house.
Shinji nodded and placed the fruits and sweets he had brought on the table.
"Tobirama, have you eaten yet?" Shinji asked, taking the tea that Tobirama offered. The state of the house suggested that Tobirama hadn't eaten yet.
"Not yet, I was just about to start cooking," Tobirama replied honestly.
"Perfect timing, then. Let me treat you to a taste of my cooking," Shinji said with a hearty laugh as he made his way to the kitchen.
Whether Tobirama had eaten or not, he would make sure to take care of him whenever he was around.
The care and concern from his uncle caused Obito to subconsciously recall memories of being cared for by him when he was younger.
"I'm doing well, and I haven't faced any difficulties," Obito replied with a shake of his head.
The inheritance he received from his family left him financially secure, and with Mu Yue's guidance, he truly hadn't encountered any problems in his cultivation.
Mu Yue had considered everything, even noticing his emotional state and celebrating his birthday with him.
"Obito, your maturity makes me feel a little useless as your uncle. Indeed, you are a genius of the Uchiha clan," Uzushiogakure praised with a smile.
"However, there is something I want to discuss with you, Uncle," Obito said after some thought.
"I want to graduate early and become a ninja."
Obito shared his plan to graduate early with his uncle.
"Graduate early, huh..." Uzushiogakure fell into thought.
"If you're not learning anything new at the Ninja Academy, then there's no point in staying there any longer," he agreed with Obito's idea.
As Obito's uncle, he was well aware of his nephew's exceptional talent.
Based on Obito's performance, Uzushiogakure believed that as long as nothing unexpected happened, Obito could become even stronger than Uchiha Kagami within a month, possibly even surpassing him.
Becoming a ninja meant facing dangers, but it also meant faster growth.
Due to his unique life experiences, Obito possessed a maturity far beyond his years, and Uzushiogakure trusted that this decision was the result of Obito's careful consideration.
Obito smiled at the affirmation from his uncle.
Although Uzushiogakure's agreement didn't directly impact his plan to graduate early, he still valued his uncle's opinion as the second most important person in his life.
After their meal, Uzushiogakure suggested a sparring match to help with digestion and to further reassure him about Obito's readiness to become a ninja.
Obito agreed, knowing that his uncle had been busy lately and hadn't had the chance to guide him in his training for a while, so he wanted to show him his current strength.
To avoid causing any damage to the house, Obito led Uzushiogakure to an empty field nearby.
"Attack me with all your might," Uzushiogakure said, standing across from Obito.
"Breath of Flames, Full Concentration!"
Obito immediately focused his breathing to enhance his physical strength and chakra nature transformation.
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique!"
Obito gathered a large amount of chakra in his throat and spat out two massive fireballs toward his uncle.
Knowing that Uzushiogakure was a powerful Uchiha jonin, Obito held nothing back and used his full strength.
"Is this an improved version of the Fireball Jutsu?"
Seeing the two massive fireballs coming at him, Uzushiogakure was surprised.
It was already impressive for a Chunin-level Uchiha to use such a powerful fireball jutsu, but Obito had just unleashed two of them in quick succession.
Uzushiogakure quickly dodged by moving at high speed, his deep understanding of the Fireball Jutsu ensuring that he wouldn't be hit by such an attack.
Whoosh! Obito's legs exploded with chakra as he rushed towards Uzushiogakure at incredible speed.
Bang! Uzushiogakure blocked Obito's punch with his palm, but the force of the blow still caused him to take a step back.
"Have I really been away for four years? You're only eleven years old, Obito," Uzushiogakure muttered, recalling Obito's speed and sensing the power behind the punch.
Obito's strength made him wonder if he had traveled through time. Although he wasn't taking the fight too seriously, he was still a powerful jonin, and one of the stronger ones at that.
"No, I'm still seven," Obito replied as he flashed into a new position, creating distance between them.
"Fire Style: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"
Obito swiftly performed hand seals, gathering most of the chakra in his body and converting it into flames, which he then spat out in a powerful stream.
As fellow practitioners of the Breath of Flames, and with Obito's natural talent for ninjutsu surpassing Deidara's, Mu Yue had also taught him this powerful fire jutsu.
Seeing the waves of scorching flames rushing towards him, Uzushiogakure's eyes widened in disbelief.
This... is this really a seven-year-old? Uzushiogakure was certain that as long as nothing unfortunate happened, Obito would surpass Uchiha Kagami. Uchiha Kagami hadn't been this strong at Obito's age.
In that moment, Uzushiogakure even thought that Obito could reach the heights of Uchiha Madara.
But it was only a fleeting thought, as Madara and Hashirama were legendary figures in the ninja world, and the gap between them and ordinary ninjas was simply too vast.
Uzushiogakure countered Obito's Fire Dragon Flame Bullet with a fire jutsu of his own, his eyes shining with delight as he looked at his nephew.
Obito's strength was far beyond that of a genin; he could even be a strong chunin, with no issues when it came to self-protection.
