Chapter 373: Do You Have the Heart to Do This to Harry?!
Chapter 373: Do You Have the Heart to Do This to Harry?!
Malfoy's pale cheeks suddenly turned red, and he gritted his teeth as he spoke.
"Don't forget Hagrid! That stupid giant’s stupid bird almost killed me!
If my father finds out about this, he will definitely make the Ministry of Magic lock up that stupid giant and his stupid bird in Azkaban! So we're even!"
Malfoy deliberately spoke loudly so everyone could understand that he had already repaid the favor.
For days, he had been brooding over Ivan saving him, but he would never thank him, not in this lifetime!
Fortunately, he had racked his brains and finally come up with a plan. Hagrid, that big oaf, was Ivan's friend, right? By letting Hagrid off the hook, he could offset Ivan's favor.
This was why he had come to see Ivan today!
"Fine then! If you say we're even, we're even!" Ivan waved his hand indifferently. He had been thinking of using this incident to tease Malfoy occasionally, which would have been quite amusing.
But now it seemed impossible. When it came to a life-saving favor, if the other person shamelessly dismissed it, there was nothing you could do, right?
Ivan's casual attitude left Malfoy feeling awkward.
He had imagined all sorts of reactions from Ivan and even prepared follow-up remarks, but Ivan's attitude made him feel like he had thrown a heavy punch into a cushion, leaving all his preparations in vain, and he felt extremely frustrated.
"Malfoy, even if you tell your father about that incident, Hagrid won't be sent to Azkaban!" Harry couldn't help but correct the flaws in Malfoy's statement.
He believed that Buckbeak had almost injured Malfoy because Malfoy had not followed Hagrid's instructions and acted recklessly. This wasn't Hagrid's fault!
And Professor Dumbledore wouldn't let Hagrid be imprisoned!
"Shut up, Potter, this is none of your business!" Malfoy glared at Harry, who was startled, and then turned to Ivan, raising his voice.
"Since you think we're even, I won't hold back in the next Quidditch match. I'll beat you on the pitch!"
With that, Malfoy looked at the empty Gryffindor House Points pool and grinned. "And of course, the House Cup this year will belong to us, Slytherin!"
"Sorry, but haven't you heard? I stopped playing a long time ago!" Ivan shook his head and then sighed. "The school's Quidditch matches are just not interesting! There's not even a proper opponent."
Although Ivan had been busy with his studies and worried about Aisha's safety, which kept him from participating in Quidditch, it didn't stop him from making this comment.
Upon hearing Ivan's words, a few Quidditch players from other houses turned to glare at him, but no one spoke up in protest.
Ivan's performance in Quidditch last year had been so astonishing that it left an indelible impression on them. When they learned that Ivan wasn't participating this year, their first reaction was relief, thinking they had a chance to win the championship, and the anger that followed was because of this.
Malfoy looked surprised. He had been avoiding Ivan and hadn't kept up with the news, so he was unaware that Ivan had quit Quidditch.
"Malfoy, don't even think about the House Cup this year. Hagrid has promised us that those points will be added back eventually!" George and Fred sneered, trying to dispel Malfoy's unrealistic hopes.
"Really?" Malfoy squinted his eyes, quickly realizing that Ivan’s calm demeanor might be due to uncovering some significant secret that could earn them extra points from Dumbledore.
Perhaps he just hadn’t found the decisive evidence yet, which was why he hadn’t taken action.
In the past two years, Ivan had discovered the anomalies with the two Defense Against the Dark Arts professors, which had helped Gryffindor House win the House Cup.
Thinking of this, Malfoy’s mind raced. He felt that this year’s new professor might also have issues, and he excitedly said to Ivan,
"Then just wait and see! I’ll expose him before you do!"
After taunting Ivan, Malfoy left with Crabbe and Goyle, strutting away.
Ivan was thoroughly confused, not understanding why Malfoy had been targeting him so much lately. Had he taken the wrong medicine or something?
How can you do this to Harry?!
Ivan turned to look at Harry, who indeed had a furious expression on his face, scolding Malfoy along with Ron.
However, Ivan didn’t join in. He didn’t take these minor conflicts with Malfoy seriously; he had far more important matters to attend to.
For example, finding Sirius Black, or fusing with the bloodline of a third magical creature!
By the end of the previous school year, he had already accumulated four legendary points. With this legendary event, he now had enough to exchange for the protection mode.
As for which magical creature to fuse with this semester, Ivan hadn’t decided yet.
Hogwarts was home to many magical creatures:
Centaur, House-elves, Mermaids, Thestrals, Phoenixes, Dementors, and others hidden in the Forbidden Forest, making for a wide variety.
However, not many interested Ivan!
Firstly, he wasn’t planning to fuse with Centaurs or Mermaids. Centaurs, while graceful and intelligent, didn’t have any special traits, and Mermaids, while likely to enhance his underwater combat abilities, were of limited use.
House-elves were a good choice; the ability to perform some magic wandlessly was very appealing to Ivan. He could always ask Dobby for a bit of blood, which would be very convenient!
Unfortunately, House-elf magic overlapped too much with wizard magic, and the key to bloodline fusion was to gain some unique trait. After fusion, he would typically only get a portion of the other’s power, so this was a backup option.
Thestrals could also be ruled out, as they didn’t have any distinctive traits. Fusing with a Thestral’s bloodline wouldn’t be as beneficial as fusing with a Phoenix’s, which had a special ability—only those who understood death could see it.
This trait related to the concept of death might combine with certain magic to evolve into a powerful ability.
In Ivan’s mind, the best fusion candidate was the Phoenix!
From what he knew, Phoenixes had at least three powerful traits: controlling fire, instantaneous teleportation, and rebirth from ashes!
However, Fawkes spent all his time in the Headmaster’s Office, making it impossible for Ivan to make a move.
Additionally, the magical creatures he favored, such as the Thunderbird, Zouwu, and Basilisk, were all out of reach.
Ivan absentmindedly ate his dinner, his mind preoccupied with which accessible magical creature could bring him the greatest improvement.
