Chapter 371: We Are the Shield!
Chapter 371: We Are the Shield!
"Roar!"
Seeing his first strike miss, Lion Ape let out a beastly roar and immediately swung another punch. Donald leapt up sharply, narrowly dodging the monstrous fist.
But before he could land, a sudden gust of wind erupted as Lion Ape seized his massive nitoryu and swung it horizontally at blinding speed. The blade aimed precisely at Donald mid-air.
"Shit!"
Donald's pupils contracted. This strike couldn't be blocked—only endured.
Instantly, Donald raised his cross spear vertically. A surge of Armament Haki surged from his arm to the weapon, darkening the spear shaft. The sheer wind pressure from the incoming strike raised every hair on his body. Without Haki reinforcement, the shockwave alone would've crippled him.
Swoosh!
Just as the nitoryu swept toward him, two Cold Gleam arrows shot forth like meteors, piercing straight for Lion Ape's eyes.
Bang!
Lion Ape stepped back, one hand waving defensively. A gust of wind erupted from his palm, scattering the two arrows. His swinging blade faltered momentarily from the disruption.
"Nailsfist Technique—Straight Nail!"
Sazil charged in during the opening. Like a massive iron nail riding air currents, his fist slammed into Lion Ape's arm, briefly paralyzing it.
"Thanks!"
Seizing the opportunity, Donald thrust his spear tip downward. The propulsion sent him soaring upward, narrowly escaping the nitoryu's sweep. This was only possible thanks to Fivefold Speed—any slower, and he'd never have reacted in time.
Even so...
Donald gazed at Lion Ape, who'd taken no damage. A bitter smile formed: "We can't even scratch his defense..."
Now he understood why Klah had been dominated earlier. Without Haki, this beast's raw physical strength was already overwhelming. And his size—ten meters tall—made even piercing his hide like pricking a needle through paper.
"Drive him back!"
Kas led the Naval Forces forward again, cutting down beasts along the way. The white gas from their blades formed a razor-straight line cleaving the street. Ahead raged a colorful beast swarm; behind gathered civilians. This line was an absolute boundary—no beast dared cross.
The white line felled beasts instantly. When it reached Lion Ape, the gas congealed into a white cone-shaped formation led by Kas, sabers raised for a charging strike. The gas thickened, obscuring even their silhouettes. All Donald sensed was a horrifying, twisted aura.
Conversely, Donald felt the immense power contained within this white storm. Facing such might, he doubted even his own ability to resist—only endure.
"Roar!!"
Lion Ape didn't dodge. Grasping his nitoryu with both hands, he swung it horizontally to intercept Kas's formation.
Clang!!
The massive blade jammed into the tip of the white cone, unleashing a thunderous shockwave.
Creak! Creak!
The nitoryu trembled violently. The naval formation wavered under the impact, but both forces remained locked in stalemate.
"Opening!"
Donald's eyes lit up. But before he could act, Lion Ape retracted his blade, spun it in a flourish, bent his knees, and leapt powerfully—vaulting over Kas and heading straight for the civilians behind.
Landing there, his massive legs bent as if preparing to stomp the crowd into paste.
"You won't break through!"
Kas's explosive roar shook the air. The white gas swirled rapidly, regrouping into formation. Like a whirlwind, they retreated backward. Beasts attempting to entangle them were swallowed by the gas like minnows devoured by a whale—spat out moments later, mangled and lifeless.
The devouring gas surged beneath Lion Ape as he descended.
"Men, stand firm! We must block him before he lands!"
Kas raised his saber defiantly, eyes burning with resolve. "If we fear death, we'd never uphold Justice!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Within the white mist, every navy member drew their weapons skyward. Delicate blades aimed to halt Lion Ape's descent—a futile yet defiant gesture.
"Death! We're going to die!"
Sazil's eyes widened as he lunged forward, fists coated in Haki. A pillar of air roared into Lion Ape's body, yelling, "Jump elsewhere, bastard!"
But the gust merely rustled the beast's fur.
Lion Ape's colossal body neared Kas's position. His spinning nitoryu clutched in both hands, he slashed downward toward the civilians—ready to clear them all in one stroke. His eyes gleamed with cruel satisfaction.
Peng!!
As he prepared to crush Kas, the earth surged like a tidal wave. Stone Waves erupted from all directions, enveloping Kas and the civilians. Their spiked surfaces clashed against the nitoryu, shattering the blade while carving deep fissures into the stone. Instantly, the Stone Waves coiled like mud around the naginata blade, forming a gaping maw. The nitoryu—and Lion Ape—were swallowed whole within a massive stone sphere, launched flying into the distant empty street.
"This is..."
Sazil's pupils constricted as he instinctively looked toward the city gate.
He recognized this power—matter manipulation.
Sure enough, from the shattered gate, a shadow zipped onto the battlements.
"Woof!"
A pitch-black figure sprinted across the walls, leaping onto the city ramparts—a five-meter-tall black werewolf. A rider sat on its back.
"Damn bumpy ride, Kuro! Why couldn't you carry me?"
Lida jumped off the werewolf, twisting his neck. "You refused to ride my flying sword and insisted on riding a big dog. Now you're blaming me?"
Sky's Kuro rolled his eyes, exhaling a puff of smoke toward the motionless stone sphere. "Good timing. We arrived just in time."
"Kurocommander!"
Kas spotted Kuro. The white gas surrounding them intensified, swelling into a monstrous shape. As Kas roared, the grotesque gas beast seemed to roar in unison—a sight chilling to behold.
"Looks like this thing got even stronger", Kuro muttered, clicking his tongue. "Mastering willpower to this extent is unprecedented."
Dizziness, mental fatigue, limb weakness—side effects of the medication. Two days of medicine had left him in this wretched state. The old sickness flaring up again...
I'll rest first. Once recovered, I'll make up for these days' losses.
For now, the production team's workload—still manageable.
