Chapter 371: The Meeting
Chapter 371: The Meeting
In the early morning, Chen Chuan opened his eyes, waking up from a deep slumber.
He was someone who never dreamed, but last night, scenes flashed before him as he slept.
The most recurring figure was a woman with light brown hair, giving the impression that it was her natural color rather than dyed. In those scenes, he conversed with her multiple times from a first-person perspective.
He could easily sense that the woman he was talking to was his mother, Yu Zhen.
Their conversations weren't limited to one location; they jumped from place to place like fragments of a real dream. Sometimes they seemed to be in a ship's cabin, other times on rugged mountain paths, and occasionally in a magnificent golden temple.
On the surface, the two seemed to be traveling to various places, and some of the scenery was clearly not within the Da Shun Republic.
He noticed that this woman greatly resembled Yu Zhen in appearance, but their auras were vastly different. If not for their conversation revealing they were just friends, he would have thought she was another sister of his mother.
Most of their conversations revolved around exploration topics, famous scenic spots, and occasionally fashion and favorite accessories.
It was evident that this memory took place before his birth.
He felt that Yu Zhen might have left this memory to share her past experiences with him, which he found precious. However, if that were the only reason, it seemed unnecessary to hide it so securely. Perhaps the transmission of these memories couldn't be entirely controlled, and these scenes were inadvertently included with the crucial information?
The latter assumption was plausible.
There must be more critical content hidden within the memories, which he couldn't access at the moment.
Even if there was no vital information, it didn't matter. He had embarked on his path and was steadily progressing towards his goals. As he climbed higher, the answers he once couldn't find would gradually unveil themselves.
He got up and walked to the window, drawing the curtains to let the morning light flood in.
He looked outside; it was September 10th, a day of rest, and the day he had agreed to meet Meng Shu.
He decided to see what his old classmate wanted to discuss.
After standing by the window for a while, he freshened up and put on his Boundary Vessel. As soon as he activated it, a notification sound played.
It was the message he hadn't finished reading yesterday, a list of discounted drugs from Qingnang Yufang.
He took a look; they were all common drugs used by Tier Three Combatants, with no special medications involved.
As expected.
He thought that even if he became a test subject for Qingnang Yufang again, they would only provide these drugs for free. The special medications were likely off-limits.
Unless he joined Qingnang Yufang as an official member.
Dismissing the message, he took some nutritional paste and medication, then headed to the training room for his daily practice and skill refinement.
As noon approached, he freshened up and prepared to keep his appointment.
Meng Shu had invited him in the name of Fusion Boundary, not as an old classmate, indicating that the meeting would focus on company matters. He got ready and changed into his Processing Bureau uniform.
After feeding Chao Ming, he carried the Snow Lady Sword and left the house. He drove to the underground garage, retrieved his car, and contacted Gao Ming. "Gao Ming, I'm on my way. I've booked a private room there too, so feel free to ask me anything."
Chen Chuan acknowledged and drove to Shu Tianxia Hotel. This time, he didn't take the mountain path but rode the sightseeing elevator instead.
To facilitate their conversation, Fusion Boundary had booked an entire independent courtyard. As he entered, a strong fragrance of osmanthus filled the air.
The courtyard was elegantly designed, adorned with natural stone landscapes. Clear streams flowed beneath a small stone bridge, creating a soothing sound. At the entrance and near the water, slender bamboo trees stood, adding to the tranquil ambiance. Unlike the outside, there were no distracting ring curtains, making the place serene and refined.
He sat on an old-style round stool with a soft cushion. Soon, he heard footsteps approaching, and when he looked up, Meng Shu walked in.
Today, she wore her hair in a hanging style, paired with a plain collared short jacket and a blue floral long skirt. She was followed by a female assistant, but as they reached the courtyard, Meng Shu waved her hand, and the assistant bowed and left.
Meng Shu crossed the stone bridge and sat down on the round stool opposite Chen Chuan. She gazed at him, "Before I saw that recording, I never imagined you could reach that level. But I always believed in your excellence, and this further proves my belief."
Chen Chuan realized that perhaps it was due to their shared childhood experiences that, despite not having seen each other for a long time, they didn't feel distant.
He said, "It's been two years since we last met, and you haven't changed much. You've always been so confident in everything you do, from childhood to adulthood."
Meng Shu shook her head lightly and said, "That's only because of my family background and the wealth I possess. I haven't had the chance to achieve anything noteworthy yet. Without these, there's no basis for my confidence."
"I'm grateful that my parents gave me this background, but these things require careful maintenance. There's nothing in this world that can remain prosperous forever."
She looked at Chen Chuan and said, "You can do what you want and succeed at it, and I'm happy for you did. I'm even a little envious, but I can't do the same. So now, I need your help."
Chen Chuan asked, "As an old classmate or as a representative of Fusion Boundary Corporation?"
Meng Shu replied, "Fusion Boundary isn't mine yet. What I need to do is make it mine, whether I like it or not. I can't back down."
Chen Chuan said, "
Chen Chuan asked, "Is it about the inheritance?"
Meng Shu didn't hide the truth. "Yes," she said, then looked at him and asked, "Do you know about that matter?"
Chen Chuan knew what she was referring to and nodded. "I know."
Meng Shu said, "I'm sure the Execution Bureau has kept some information to themselves."
"I think so too," Chen Chuan agreed.
Meng Shu looked at him and said, "Although the government and the company currently have the same stance, their focus is different. The government's focus is on the defense of the World Ring, while the companies, although they also do the same, have a primary goal of seeking Relics."
Chen Chuan asked directly, "What are those?"
"The boundary where the two worlds collide and merge, the place where the World Ring is now, didn't suddenly appear, but formed over a long time. During the past Transitional Period, the two worlds had many moments of proximity, and at their convergence, many objects that conform to both worlds materialized.
These could be living beings or things that are still hard to understand today, collectively called 'Relics', which were collected by the imperial courts of various countries in the past.
Now, many company technologies, besides those developed in this world, emerged by imitating and studying these Relics, so until now, the government and even major companies are still seeking these Relics.
But the Relics outside the World Ring are almost gone, so now we need to get close to the Ring Curtain, or even cross the World Ring to search. And these Relics can only be approached or captured by Fighters who are well-prepared."
Chen Chuan asked, "Do you want me to help you find these Relics?"
Meng Shu shook her head, "Going there is very dangerous, and even if you could bring them back, besides earning some praise, I won't gain any substantial benefits.
My elder brother controls most of the company's businesses, and he can use this to recruit people, form new research teams, establish new projects, and make more people grateful to him. What I do now is meaningless; competing with him within the company, he'll always gain more than me.
Even if I do something beneficial for the company and gain my grandfather's support, I know the root of it all is ultimately force. If he feels threatened, he only needs to send someone suitable to physically eliminate me, and he'll take everything I've done.
And my grandfather will unhesitatingly abandon me, an heir who can't even protect herself.
So I must ensure my own safety."
She turned to Chen Chuan and laid out her conditions, "Chen Chuan, if you're willing to come, I can search for Relics and give you all the resources I can allocate."
Chen Chuan said, "Old classmate, let's not talk about my abilities for now. If you're willing to invest, recruiting others shouldn't be difficult either."
Meng Shu said, "But I can't trust any of them. I can't be sure if they've secretly accepted my brother's conditions."
She looked at Chen Chuan seriously, "I've watched your recordings and consulted many people, and they all affirmed your talent. Your abilities are unquestionable, and I'm more willing to trust you.
And I can promise that once I become the heir of Fusion Boundary, I'll give you the maximum support. Although Fusion Boundary isn't a top-tier company, it's an important partner in the military industry, maintaining a good cooperative relationship with the government, and our business is expanding internationally.
The company is on the rise, and even if it can't become the best, I believe no other place will offer such conditions to support an individual with all its resources."
