Chapter 370: The Great Hero, Rayquaza
Chapter 370: The Great Hero, Rayquaza
"Long ago, there existed two Pokemon in this world by the names of Groudon and Kyogre." Naoki began, his voice taking on a narrative tone as he shared the tale.
"One represented the land, and the other the sea. For countless years, these two Pokemon waged a relentless battle to expand their territories."
"Their power was immense. The conflict between Groudon and Kyogre caused violent storms and dark clouds to engulf the world."
"The people of the world, witnessing this chaos, believed that doomsday was upon them. They prayed to the heavens for a savior to intervene."
"Perhaps their prayers were answered, for suddenly, the clouds parted, and a brilliant light shone through."
"And thus, a powerful and valiant Dragon-type Pokemon descended."
"Its strength was unmatched. It engaged in an epic battle with Groudon and Kyogre, successfully putting an end to their feud."
"In the end, Groudon, battered and humbled, returned to its slumber within a volcano, while Kyogre retreated to a deep-sea cave to rest."
"The name of this heroic Dragon Pokemon was Rayquaza."
"In gratitude, the humans who bore witness to this grand battle erected a Sky Pillar to commemorate Rayquaza's bravery, and they recorded its valiant deeds in murals within the tower."
As Naoki concluded the story, he noticed the three Dragon-type Pokemon before him, their eyes sparkling with admiration.
"Garchomp!" exclaimed the Garchomp, its voice filled with awe.
Giratina's face was equally moved by the tale.
Meanwhile, the Latios had become completely engrossed in the story, imagining itself as the hero who had saved the world.
Naoki turned to Latios, suddenly remembering that this Pokemon had encountered two of the three Pokemon in the story.
Noticing that Latios hadn't made the connection yet, Naoki prompted, "Latios, you've actually met Rayquaza and Kyogre before."
"Latias?" Latios inquired eagerly.
"Remember last year when you encountered a black Dragon Pokemon in the eye of a storm at sea?" Naoki explained.
At these words, a shadowy figure flashed through Latios' mind, its mysterious presence instantly recognizable.
Its eyes lit up as it made the connection.
"Latias!" it exclaimed, remembering.
"That Pokemon was Rayquaza," Naoki confirmed, pausing briefly before continuing. "And the blue Pokemon that defeated you in battle at sea was none other than the sea deity, Kyogre."
"La..." Latios trailed off, seemingly incredulous. The Pokemon hadn't revealed its name at the time, leading Latios to assume it was just a particularly powerful Water-type Pokemon.
Noting Latios' reaction, Naoki smiled. "You're quite lucky, you know. Some people and Pokemon go their whole lives without ever laying eyes on a Legendary Pokemon, and you've already encountered two."
No, not just two, Naoki thought. There was also Zapdos, Giratina, Dialga, Regigigas, and Palkia's two steeds.
Latios' excitement was palpable. So, those two Pokemon were Rayquaza and Kyogre!
"Alright, story time's over. Let's get some sleep now," Naoki suggested.
However, Latios was too exhilarated to rest. After Naoki retired for the night, Latios decided to enlist Giratina and Garchomp in a quest to find the great hero Rayquaza, who had saved the world from the conflict between Groudon and Kyogre.
Giratina, its face twisted in an odd expression, seemed to find the idea tedious. "Aaagh..." it muttered, clearly uninterested.
Undeterred, Latios turned to Garchomp, querying, "Latias?"
Garchomp, on the other hand, looked conflicted. "Gar!" it replied, its face a picture of dismay.
While it shared Latios' enthusiasm, Garchomp lacked wings and couldn't fly, a fact that presented a significant obstacle to their planned adventure.
"La..." Latios acknowledged the problem.
Together, they racked their brains for a solution, and soon, Latios devised a brilliant plan.
It proposed that Garchomp enter its Poke Ball, allowing Latios to carry the ball and its small satchel as it set off on its quest.
The suggestion thrilled Garchomp, but it hesitated, knowing that Naoki would worry if they ventured out into the world beyond the ranch.
Latios, determined to reassure its companion, vowed, "Latios, Latias! (Don't worry, I'm a fast flyer. We'll be back before dawn, and Naoki will be none the wiser when he wakes up!)
"
Garchomp's eyes widened at Latios' confident assertion, and it decided to take a chance, intrigued by the idea of a secret adventure.
It scurried back into the living room, where Regigigas was still engrossed in the television. The ancient Pokemon caught a glimpse of Garchomp's furtive movements and, though surprised, remained silent.
Garchomp located its Poke Ball on the Poke Ball rack and quickly darted out the door.
For the first time, Garchomp was sneaking off on an adventure without Naoki, and its heart raced with a mix of excitement and nervousness.
Out in the ranch, a few Pokemon were still awake.
A Muk was chatting with a Butterfree on the grass, and when they noticed Garchomp and Latios' unusual behavior, they immediately called out.
"Muk!"
Latios and Garchomp turned, and Latios eagerly shared the story Naoki had just told them, recounting it for Muk and Butterfree.
Upon learning of their intention to find the heroic Rayquaza, Muk, always eager for exploration and intrigue, was instantly intrigued.
Salamence puffed out its chest and spoke with an air of authority. "Roar! Growl!" (Sure, but you all have to listen to me on the way!)
Bonsly and Butterfree had no objections.
Soon, the two of them followed Moto Lizard's lead and sneaked out their Poke Balls from the living room, returning themselves to their contained state.
Salamence, ever the responsible one, slung its milk delivery bag over its shoulder, carefully placing the three Poke Balls inside. After bidding Golurk farewell, it embarked on its solo journey to find the great hero, Rayquaza.
As they disappeared into the night sky, Golurk let out a soft sigh.
"Agghhh..."
Salamence's journey did not go as smoothly as it had hoped.
Its first stop was the sea where it had first encountered Rayquaza.
The night sky was dotted with floating clouds, and a full moon hung high above, illuminating the calm waters. The occasional gentle ripple broke the silence of the night, only to be followed by a swift return to tranquility.
There was no sign of the typhoon, nor of Rayquaza.
Salamence blinked, recalling how Rayquaza had soared into the highest reaches of the sky. With renewed determination, it flew upwards, towards the heavens.
They soared through the clouds, emerging into the majestic expanse of the sky beyond.
Salamence picked up speed, hoping to find traces of Rayquaza in this vast domain.
However, after circling half the globe, Salamence still hadn't caught a glimpse of the legendary Pokemon.
A sense of dejection crept into its heart.
"Roar..." Where had the venerable Rayquaza gone?
Just as Salamence was about to give up and return to the ranch, a gust of wind howling through the high altitudes sparked a new idea.
Salamence recalled how, after eating the Storm Bun that Naoki had made, it had gained the ability to sense its surroundings through the flow of air. Could it use this ability to search for Rayquaza's whereabouts?
With this thought in mind, Salamence sprang into action.
It flew while simultaneously sensing its surroundings through the air currents.
Time ticked by, and as the first rays of dawn appeared, Salamence's eyes snapped open.
A gentle breeze brought news of a powerful and familiar presence to the northeast! Salamence's eyes lit up, and it immediately changed course, flying in that direction.
The sky around them gradually lightened, and a crimson hue appeared on the distant horizon, while the other side of the sky remained shrouded in darkness.
As Salamence soared through the thick clouds and into the deep blue expanse beyond, all sounds seemed to fade away.
Suddenly, the world fell silent. Before them lay an endless expanse of fluffy white clouds.
Not far away, on top of one of those clouds, a pitch-black dragon-like Pokemon lay coiled, its eyes closed as if in deep slumber.
It was Rayquaza, the hero who had saved the world! Salamence's eyes widened, and its heart raced with excitement and admiration.
Without hesitation, it flew towards the majestic figure.
As if sensing the intruder's approach, Rayquaza suddenly opened its eyes, the golden irises fixing on the approaching Pokemon.
A formidable aura emanated from Rayquaza, a pressure that seemed capable of subduing the very heavens and earth. It swept towards Salamence in an overwhelming tide.
Feeling the weight of this oppressive aura, Salamence hesitated and asked cautiously, "Roar? Growl?" (Rayquaza, don't you remember me?)
By now, Rayquaza had fully awakened, and upon seeing Salamence, it furrowed its brow in confusion, listening to the younger Pokemon's words.
Salamence eagerly explained, "Roar, roar! Growl, growl!" (I'm Salamence. We met last year, during the typhoon. Don't you remember? I saw you there!)
Rayquaza paused for a moment, its eyes narrowing in thought as it recalled a determined figure relentlessly charging through the eye of the storm, undeterred by the violent air currents that lashed at its body.
Impressed by Salamence's resilience, Rayquaza had lingered to observe it for a while.
After a moment of contemplation, Rayquaza asked, "Roar? Growl?" (Why have you sought me out?)
Pleased that Rayquaza recognized it, Salamence landed on the wondrous cloud beneath the dragon's feet and proceeded to explain the reason for its visit.
"Roar, roar! Growl, growl!" (Naoki told us the story of how you, Rayquaza, defeated Groudon and Kyogre and saved the world! We wanted to meet you!)
Admiration laced Salamence's words.
"Roar! Growl!" (You're the hero who saved the world!)
Rayquaza was taken aback, a mix of surprise and bewilderment flashing across its face.
However, one thing was certain: the Pokemon before it had no malicious intent and seemed to simply want an audience.
Just as Rayquaza was about to respond, it noticed Salamence reach into its bag and produce three Poke Balls.
With a flash of white light, three ordinary Pokemon appeared on the cloud—Bonsly, Butterfree, and Moto Lizard. Their eyes widened as they beheld the majestic figure before them, their imaginations running wild with thoughts of the world-saving dragon from the story.
"Bonny?" (Is this the legendary Rayquaza who saved the world? Amazing!)
Bonsly's eyes sparkled, and it exclaimed, "Bonny!" (You're so cool!)
Moto Lizard, too, craned its neck to gaze up at Rayquaza, its body trembling with awe. "Gao..." (Incredible...)
Butterfree, overwhelmed by the oppressive aura, could only stare in silence.
Hearing these flattering words and seeing the admiring gazes, Rayquaza could clearly feel the awe these Pokemon held for it.
Rayquaza was delighted by the praise, a feeling it had never experienced before, nor had any Pokemon ever treated it this way.
All traces of morning grumpiness vanished from Rayquaza as it looked at the Pokemon before it and happily said:
"Roar." (Those were all things of the past. I only intervened back then because I felt the pleas of humans. That's why I stepped in to stop those two.)
"Wow!" The group of Pokemon exclaimed in awe. So amazing!
Rayquaza burst into hearty laughter, as if a floodgate had opened, and shared stories of the past with these adoring Pokemon.
Salamence and Moto Lizard listened with great enthusiasm.
Salamence's fighting spirit soared: As expected of Rayquaza, even the combined might of Groudon and Kyogre was no match! From now on, I want to become a mighty dragon like Rayquaza!
Moto Lizard's eyes shone with admiration: Rayquaza is so incredible, so awesome!
As the weakest Pokemon, Butterfree didn't dare speak to such a majestic being and remained quietly by its side, listening intently.
Bonsly, on the other hand, was outgoing and bold, occasionally asking Rayquaza about the details of its past battles, such as what moves it had used to defeat those two Pokemon.
Rayquaza answered each question, explaining that one of its most powerful moves was called 'Dragon Gaze.'
When it released this move, its body would transform into a piercing green line that stretched across the sky.
As if speaking about it wasn't enough, Rayquaza even decided to demonstrate the move to the Pokemon.
Gradually, the sky began to brighten, and the Pokemon, engrossed in conversation with Rayquaza, forgot about their plan to return to the ranch before dawn.
Pasio Region, Wetfoot Town, Naoki's Ranch.
As the sun rose in the east, Naoki woke up and prepared to begin another day of work.
However, he soon discovered something shocking—several Pokemon were missing from the ranch!
Naoki quickly took a headcount of the Pokemon and found that Salamence, Moto Lizard, Butterfree, and Bonsly were absent.
Yikes!
Naoki was stunned, his mind racing with all sorts of possibilities.
Could it be that some terrifying creature had intruded into the ranch in the middle of the night and carried these Pokemon away?
Golurk stood by, looking exasperated. "Agghhh..."
Noticing Golurk seemed to know their whereabouts, Naoki quickly ate a piece of the translation candy.
Golurk then spoke: "Agghhh..." (They went to find Rayquaza.)
"???"
Naoki froze for a moment before asking incredulously, "They went to find Rayquaza?"
Golurk nodded its large head helplessly.
Naoki immediately suspected that it might have something to do with the story he had told them the previous night.
Those Pokemon...
Naoki felt a headache coming on and asked, "Who led them?"
How could even the well-behaved Moto Lizard be tricked into going?
Golurk hesitated, wanting to help cover for them.
But Naoki saw right through it: "It must have been Salamence!"
Only Salamence and Moto Lizard had been present when he told the story, and given Moto Lizard's personality, it was unlikely to have been the instigator. Since Golurk hadn't gone, Salamence must have been the one to propose the idea.
With this in mind, Naoki turned to check the Poke Ball rack in the house, and as expected, he found three Poke Balls missing.
"Smart move." Knowing to bring Poke Balls for the Pokemon that can't fly.
High in the sky.
As the noonday sun shone on Moto Lizard's face, it finally snapped out of its excited state.
It suddenly remembered something and spoke up, "Gao...?" (Shouldn't we be heading back?)
Hearing this, the other Pokemon also realized the lateness of the hour.
Salamence stood up and bid farewell to Rayquaza, still looking eager for more.
"Roar!" (We should head back, or Naoki will start to worry!)
Rayquaza looked at it and asked, "Roar?" (Naoki?)
Salamence nodded happily, "Roar!" (Yes! He's our Trainer, and we live together on the ranch! It was he who told us about your heroic deeds, Rayquaza!)
Rayquaza nodded, thinking about how that human had portrayed it as a world-saving hero in the story.
With that in mind, Rayquaza didn't hesitate to reach out and take something from its body as it watched the Pokemon prepare to leave.
It was a pitch-black dragon scale, shimmering with an otherworldly luster, and it seemed incredibly divine.
Rayquaza used its dragon claws to hand the scale to Salamence.
Salamence reached out and took it, looking down at the scale with confusion. "Roar?" (What's this?)
Rayquaza replied, "Roar." (This is a scale that fell from my body. You can use it to call upon me, and I will come to meet with you.)
