Chapter 370: I Must Future Fusion
Chapter 370: I Must Future Fusion
"I'll end my turn by setting three cards."
With a flash of golden light, three cards were set on You Xuan's field.
"During the End Phase, the effect of 'Dimensional Scout,' which was removed from play by 'Dark Temptation.' This card is Special Summoned in Attack Position during the End Phase of the turn it was removed from play."
Dimensional Scout: ATK/800
"My turn, draw." Luca declared, "I activate the Spell Card, 'Pot of Greed,' and draw two cards."
With two more cards in hand, a glimmer in his eyes suggested that one of them was exactly what he was looking for, and he burst into a spontaneous fit of laughter.
You Xuan raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? Did you just draw what you needed?"
"Heh, I was planning to test your skills a bit more, but it seems this guy is also eager to face you."
Luca lowered his voice, building up the atmosphere.
"Although the Duel has just begun, it seems it will end soon, unfortunately. But you're lucky; you'll get to witness my ultimate ace. I activate the Equip Spell, 'Future Fusion'!" (Anime version)
He held the card high, and its image appeared before him as if the sky were painted with a vibrant, shifting aurora.
"Future Fusion: Choose a Fusion Monster in your Fusion Deck and activate this card. Select the Fusion Material Monsters from your Deck and send them to the Graveyard, then perform the Fusion!"
"A Future Fusion in the form of an Equip Spell, huh?" You Xuan narrowed his eyes.
Although he had known about this card, seeing it in person made him want to criticize it as a ridiculously overpowered card.
The weakened, post-physical card version of Future Fusion was truly about "future" fusion, and it was already ban-worthy in its power level, only to be further weakened later on.
But this original anime version of Future Fusion had none of that "future" flavor; it was all about "I must fuse right now." Directly choosing any materials from the Deck without field restrictions and instantly fusing—even the pre-nerf Future Fusion paled in comparison.
"You've got quite the card there," You Xuan said with a mysterious smile.
"Hehe, don't blink, because the ultimate monster is about to make its entrance."
Luca pulled out a large handful of cards from his Deck in one swift motion.
"I send all twenty-five different Insect-type monsters from my Deck to the Graveyard to perform an ultimate Insect-type monster's twenty-five-material Fusion! Descend! The origin and zero point of all things, the ultimate Insect-type monster!"
The heavens and earth trembled as an anomaly occurred, and the ground shook. The silhouettes of twenty-five insects appeared, slowly approaching the fusion vortex that had opened in the sky. A terrifying presence, unparalleled and formidable, seemed to be brewing within.
"Hold on a second," You Xuan said, snapping his fingers.
"Before the effect of 'Future Fusion' resolves, I chain this card."
A somewhat bizarre smile appeared on his face, looking a bit eerie in the pre-dawn light.
"Continuous Trap—Macro Cosmos! All cards sent to both players' Graveyards are banished instead!"
Luca's movements paused, and he stood still for two seconds.
His pupils contracted, and his expression gradually turned horrified.
"Wait a moment!"
He instinctively reached out towards the 'Future Fusion' card on his backrow.
"Wait, I won't send them to the Graveyard. Stop! Yamero (Stop it)!"
But it was, of course, too late. After Macro Cosmos resolved, the effect of Future Fusion automatically proceeded, sending all twenty-five Insect-type monsters from his Deck to the Graveyard. However, due to the power of the sacred and supreme Macro Cosmos, they were intercepted and banished from the game all at once.
He couldn't believe that half of his deck had just been banished to another dimension. He felt like exploding with rage.
But he forced himself to stay calm. Even though half of his deck had been sent to the graveyard, the Fusion Summon had already been activated. After resolving the effect, Insect Zero should still be able to descend.
The anomaly in the heavens and earth continued, and a massive silhouette appeared in the air—a spherical behemoth that blotted out the sky, heralding what seemed like the end of days.
A gleam flashed in Luca's eyes.
As long as he could summon his invincible Insect Zero...
"I activate a Set Trap Card, 'Sand Dust's Tornado.' Destroy one Magic or Trap Card on the field. I destroy 'Future Fusion.'" You Xuan declared.
He paused for a moment, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Although Future Fusion is a powerful Fusion Spell, it's an Equip Card. After the Fusion Summon, it needs to be equipped to the Fusion Monster it summoned. If this card leaves the field, the equipped monster is also destroyed, right?"
A sandstorm swept through the field, erasing 'Future Fusion' from existence. As expected, the anomaly in the heavens and earth abruptly stopped, and the massive sphere hanging in the air exploded with a thunderous boom. All the buildup and atmosphere amounted to nothing as it failed to reveal its true form and was blown to smithereens.
Luca: "..."
He realized something.
His opponent could have activated "Sand Dust's Tornado" right when he played "Future Fusion." If he had done that, none of the subsequent effects of "Future Fusion" would have resolved, and it would have ended then and there.
But he hadn't. Instead, he had watched with a smug smile as Luca sent most of his deck to another dimension, only to casually blow away his Insect Zero with a wave of his hand.
It was infuriating.
Luca took a deep breath, controlling the urge to lash out, and slowly drew another card from his hand.
"I Normal Summon 'Zex Insect' then." He said through gritted teeth.
[Zex Insect: ATK/1800]
"Next, I activate the effect of 'Agon Insect' in the graveyard. When only 'Zex Insect' is on my field, I can Special Summon this card from the graveyard in face-down Defense Position."
An image of a repulsive insect flashed on the field and then materialized as a face-down card on Luca's field. It was the very same Agon Insect that had been blasted away by Earth Emperor last turn.
Zex and Agon were a renowned golden duo among the Insect-type monsters. When Zex was successfully summoned, it could send Agon from the deck to the graveyard, and Agon could return to the field in face-down Defense Position when Zex was on the field. When flipped face-up, it could return a monster to its owner's hand.
"Then, I activate a Set Spell Card." Luca flipped the Set Card on his field. "I activate 'Book of Moon'! Change a monster on the field to face-down Attack Position."
"I see. So, it's a manual flip trigger effect." You Xuan nodded in understanding.
"Correct! And the monster I'll be flipping face-up is this very Agon Insect!"
[Agon Insect: ATK/1000]
"When Agon Insect is flipped face-up, return one monster on the field to its owner's hand.
Get back to me, Earth Emperor-Granmard!"
The Earth Emperor transformed into a beam of golden light and returned to You Xuan's hand.
"Now, your frontline has been breached!" Luca declared. "Zex Insect, Agon Insect, attack!"
