Chapter 370: Human Martial Spear
Chapter 370: Human Martial Spear
Kas's Navy contingent numbered only several hundred soldiers, clearly insufficient against the endless tide of beast swarm.
The 'White Colossus'—a towering figure formed from white gas—stood among the multicolored horde like a small beast surrounded by giants. Yet this 'small beast' fearlessly charged the swarm head-on, its might seemingly surpassing the monstrous horde's sheer size.
Boom!!!
The Colossus collided with the beast swarm like a white-tipped spear piercing deep into enemy lines, embedding itself within the writhing mass.
The gas-enshrouded Navy soldiers launched synchronized attacks—blades flashing, spears thrusting, movements seamlessly coordinated. Enhanced by Fivefold speed, they cut through the beasts with ease, each strike felling creatures one after another.
Though countless, the beasts couldn't match the disciplined unity of Kas's forces. For all their numbers, they could only fall before the synchronized onslaught.
"Strength? Their strength increased? What's happening?"
Donald stared, bewildered.
He had charged alongside Kas's group, his long spear flashing like starlight. Cross-spear technique in motion, he pierced a beast's skull with the tip, then swept sideways, twin blades on the spear cleaving through nearby foes and sending severed heads flying.
Accelerated by Fivefold speed, his movements were blisteringly fast—his innate skill already formidable enough to dominate the beast swarm. But how had these ordinary soldiers achieved the same?
Acceleration should only affect speed, not raw strength or accuracy. Yet Donald clearly saw these soldiers' strikes carrying increased force, their projectiles unnaturally precise.
Unlike Sazil—who'd trained at Headquarters but lacked battlefield experience—or Ju Geng, whose archery skills, while decent, marked her as a provincial huntress untested beyond her homeland, Donald had traveled extensively. He recognized this wasn't ordinary augmentation.
This wasn't an individual ability. It was something unique—strength emerging from their collective unity.
Yet it didn't feel like a typical power-up.
Donald narrowed his eyes at the burly officer leading the charge, face set with determination. This man, commanding the Navy, radiated significantly enhanced combat power.
Not just strength—defensive power too.
Donald had witnessed a beast's claws slashing at a soldier's side. The strike should have eviscerated him, yet only left a shallow wound—a mere tear in the uniform.
"This is..." His pupils contracted. Unbelievable.
Could their defensive power also be enhanced?
What kind of strength was this?
Donald didn't understand its nature, but he sensed it only affected those of weaker individual power—the three of them remained unaffected.
"Nailsfist Technique!" Sazil roared.
A shockwave burst from their punch, sending dozens of beasts sprawling with concussive force. Before Sazil could react, a screeching eagle descended from behind. An arrow materialized from nowhere, piercing the beast clean through, pinning its body to the city wall with bone-shattering force.
Ju Geng stood in the distance, bowstring humming as she fired arrow after arrow. Enhanced by Fivefold speed, her movements became invisible blurs. Each shot found its mark in the avian swarm.
The tide of beasts began shrinking under their onslaught.
"Strange", Ju Geng muttered, loosing another arrow.
Dozens of corpses littered the battlefield, yet the horde showed no signs of retreat. From her hunting experience, such losses should have triggered a rout. Worse—she'd never seen carnivores and herbivores cooperating like this.
A sudden seismic tremor snapped her focus. She turned to see the Lion Ape, its head towering higher than the city walls. One hand gripped the battlements, the hoof that had shattered the gates now retracted. Its legs coiled like springs, knees clearly visible through the open city gate.
"Watch out!" she cried. "The Lion Ape's jumping!"
The beast launched itself, claws gripping the wall with explosive force. Its massive frame soared over the barrier like a circus acrobat, descending toward Kas and his embedded Colossus.
Kas calmly raised his saber, issuing orders as the Lion Ape's shadow darkened the battlefield.
"Fall back!"
The gas-wrapped Navy executed a swift retreat, as nimble as rabbits evading a falling tree.
Crash!!!
The Lion Ape landed, crushing dozens of creatures beneath its bulk. The shockwave flung corpses through the air.
"Roar!!!"
It planted its nitoryu blade into the ground, shaking the earth, then snarled toward the palace with palpable hatred.
"Monster inside the walls!"
"Stay calm! The Navy promised to protect us!"
"Y-yes... but that ten-meter golden beast—"
Panic rippled through civilians. Even with Kas's reassurances, facing a golden terror ten meters tall left no one confident about survival.
Donald dashed sideways, fingers flicking his chain-bound spear hilt free. He gripped the chain, swirling the cross-spear above his head like a meteor hammer.
With a stomp, he blurred into motion—a wisp of afterimage trailing him—as he leapt toward the Lion Ape. The cross-spear arced downward, aimed straight for the beast's eye.
Fivefold speed made him a blur, but the Lion Ape's head tilted slightly. The blade scraped past its temple as golden eyes tracked Donald mid-air.
The gaze held only contempt.
Gritting his teeth, Donald yanked the chain, reorienting the spear for another thrust. The long spear lunged toward the Lion Ape's temple—
A golden arm blocked him.
The beast's forearm smashed downward, swatting Donald like a fly.
"Keh!"
The impact drove Donald into the ground, coughing blood. Before he could recover, the Lion Ape's fist descended.
Donald pushed off his spear, sliding backward across the ground to evade the earth-shaking punch.
"No good", he muttered, breathing heavily.
His art—[Human Martial Spear]—was designed for humanoid opponents. His master's words echoed: "This technique works against human forms."
Against Klah or any bipedal foe, it would dominate.
But against this monstrosity? The spear's intricate, devious variations proved ineffective.
