Chapter 37: Saying Goodbye to Baby Dragon
Chapter 37: Saying Goodbye to Baby Dragon
A few minutes later, Liam came down the stairs with a small box in his hand.
He opened the box, which was divided into two sections. The left side contained various medical instruments, while the right side held a series of thumb-sized bottles, each filled with different liquids.
This box was a creation of Liam's after he obtained the Herb Cultivation Legacy and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Legacy. The instruments were mailed over by his parents, and the bottles contained a mix of Plant Essences from the Plants vs. Zombies World and some of the better potions he had made during his practice.
Opening the box, Liam took out an acupuncture needle from a syringe and carefully extracted a thin, rice-grain-sized tooth from Ron's wound.
"What is that?" the others asked in surprise.
Liam placed the tooth in an empty bottle and explained, "I read in a book that many Fire Dragons grow a special kind of tooth in their youth to secrete venom. It's a defensive mechanism. These thin teeth dissolve slowly after biting an opponent, releasing toxins that make it harder for the wound to heal."
Liam then used tweezers to hold a piece of cotton, first dipped in alcohol and then in soapy water, to clean Ron's wound. Finally, he applied a modified potion of his own, primarily using White Fresh and adding powdered roots of the Sunlight Sunflower.
"Alright, I'm done. Whether it works or not depends on the situation. After all, I haven't learned many techniques for treating dragon bites in my Medical Skills."
"That's fine, bro. It's already much better", Ron said, looking at his wound, which was now neatly bandaged. "At least it doesn't hurt as much as it did before."
As Liam finished his treatment and tidied up, a tapping sound came from the dark window. Hedwig had delivered Charlie's letter.
In the letter, Charlie said he was happy to adopt the Norwegian Ridgeback, but they needed to bring the dragon to the highest tower at midnight on Saturday. He had a few reliable friends who could take the dragon away on broomsticks under the cover of darkness. After all, the dragon couldn't be discovered by anyone.
Liam and the others exchanged worried glances. After all, sneaking a dragon through the castle at night was a very dangerous task. They could easily be caught by the night patrols.
However, Harry finally mentioned that he had an Invisibility Cloak, which was large enough to cover two people carrying the dragon and Norbert.
With that, the plan was set. The next morning, Ron's finger was only slightly red and swollen, and it looked like it was almost healed. By the following day, his finger was completely fine. Ron was so impressed by Liam's Medical Skills that he praised him profusely, making Liam feel a bit embarrassed.
Liam found a midday to inform Hagrid about the specific time they would be taking the dragon away. When he arrived at Hagrid's door, he found Fang sitting outside with a bandage on his tail.
Hagrid opened the window to speak to him. "I can't let you in", he panted, "Norbert is getting hard to handle—I can't control him anymore." Liam told him about Charlie's letter, and Hagrid's eyes filled with tears, though it might have been because Norbert had just bitten his leg.
"Hehe! It's alright, he only bit my boot—just playing around, you know. After all, he's still just a little baby." The baby dragon thumped its tail against the wall, making the window rattle.
Liam gave Hagrid a look of sympathy and said his goodbyes. As he walked back to the castle, he increasingly felt that getting the dragon out of there on Saturday was the best course of action.
Saturday arrived, and the night was dark, with a sky thick with clouds. Liam and the others set out to collect the dragon from Hagrid.
Initially, Harry and Ron said that the two of them would be enough, but Liam told them, "If anything blocks your way, you'll likely be late. I'll handle those obstacles and lead them away, so you can proceed directly."
In the end, the three of them set off together under the Invisibility Cloak.
Sure enough, Peeves was playing tennis against the wall in the entrance hall. Liam stepped out of the Invisibility Cloak and made a noise in another direction to draw Peeves away.
After circling around to lose Peeves, Liam returned to the entrance hall and found that Harry and the others had already left.
Standing in the entrance hall, Liam suddenly thought it would be boring to head back to the dormitory right away. He had been at the school for so long and had never visited the Forbidden Forest. With the end of the term approaching, he realized this would be his last chance to do so this semester.
Considering he had a variety of magical Plants at his disposal, Liam decided that venturing into the Forbidden Forest, as long as he didn't delve into the core area, should be relatively safe. With that, he made his way out of the entrance hall and sneaked toward the Forbidden Forest.
As he passed by Hagrid's hut, he could hear the sound of heavy sobbing inside. It was clear that Hagrid was deeply saddened by the departure of the dragon.
At the edge of the Forbidden Forest, Liam saw a narrow path that gradually disappeared into the dark, dense woods. As he followed the path, the vegetation grew thicker, and the sky above became obscured by the dense canopy, with only occasional beams of moonlight filtering through the branches and illuminating the path.
However, this dim light did not bring a sense of security; instead, it made the branches around him seem more menacing and threatening.
Liam took out a Lantern Plant from his shop, and the surrounding darkness was quickly dispelled by its light. He noticed that some eyes that had been watching him in the darkness seemed to vanish, suggesting that the Lantern Plant had some additional effect in repelling evil.
As he continued down the path, Liam suddenly noticed some silver-blue light on the ground. Upon closer inspection, he realized it wasn't reflected moonlight but some kind of liquid.
Voldemort's murder of a Unicorn hadn't happened yet, so what could this liquid, which looked like Unicorn blood, be?
Liam pondered this, weighing whether to follow the trail. Curiosity eventually overcame his fear, and he began to track the bloodstains.
Under the light of the Lantern Plant, the suspected bloodstains glowed brightly. This wasn't just a reflection of light; it also seemed to react with the magical power contained in the Lantern Plant's light, causing it to emit a distinct glow.
Liam stepped over a moss-covered tree trunk and could hear the sound of a stream nearby. The path ahead was winding and dotted with spots of blood. The good news was that the amount of blood didn't seem significant, suggesting the Unicorn was not in mortal danger.
After walking for about ten minutes, just as he was approaching the edge of the Forbidden Forest's core area, Liam still hadn't seen anything.
Considering the late hour, he was about to give up when he heard some strange noises from behind a bush.
He crouched down and cautiously approached, quietly parting the bushes. The sight that greeted him left him gaping in astonishment.
Liam felt he was witnessing the most beautiful scene of his two lives. Several Unicorns were gathered together, affectionately rubbing their necks against each other. The moonlight shimmered on their smooth, silvery coats, creating a serene and sacred atmosphere that left Liam spellbound.
