Chapter 37: Nature Transformation Training
Chapter 37: Nature Transformation Training
"Teacher Mu Yue, how long did I last this time?" Tobirama wiped the water off his face and looked at Mu Yue expectantly.
He felt like he had been standing in the river for a long while, perhaps even an hour.
"You did very well this time. You lasted for twenty minutes," Mu Yue praised generously.
"Huh? Just twenty minutes? I thought it was at least half an hour," Tobirama said, a little disappointed.
While on the river, he had to constantly maintain his chakra output, pay attention to Mu Yue's water release, observe the ripples on the water, and be ready to dodge at any moment. This constant state of alertness made it feel like a much longer time had passed.
"You've completed the chakra control training, and now you can begin nature transformation training," Mu Yue said with a smile.
"Okay, I'll get started right away," Tobirama replied instinctively, starting to walk towards the riverbank, as he had been practicing treading water recently. It was only after a few steps that he realized what Mu Yue had just said.
"Finally, no more treading water," Tobirama exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air. He quieted down when he noticed that both Itachi and Might Guy were looking at him.
"I'm getting used to the taste of the river water from treading water here every day," Tobirama joked.
Treading water was more challenging than tree climbing. With tree climbing, as long as he adjusted his posture or Mu Yue caught him quickly, he would be fine. But with treading water, if he lost control, he would end up swallowing a mouthful of water.
Fortunately, not many people came to this place, and the river water was clean and clear, without any strange smells.
"Do you want to practice some more?" Mu Yue teased.
"Never mind, never mind. Lately, when I see a river, I feel like taking a detour," Tobirama admitted, having been through enough torture.
"Let's start the nature transformation training soon. There are only fourteen days left until the competition," Tobirama said, feeling a sense of urgency.
In addition to nature transformation, he also needed to deepen his mastery of the Fireball Jutsu.
"Don't worry, we'll have enough time if we follow my plan," Mu Yue assured him.
This training was just to prepare for a civilian competition, not to face Pain after completing his training. There was no need to go overboard with the nature transformation practice.
With the Teacher System's buff and Mu Yue's own mastery of the Fireball Jutsu, it would be easy for her to help Tobirama improve his Fireball Jutsu.
After all, the rewards for completing the training tasks were important, so Mu Yue had planned carefully.
Soon, Mu Yue's shadow clone brought over a large wooden bucket. She opened it and took out an ice cube the size of an egg, which she handed to Tobirama.
"Place the ice cube in your palm and use chakra to perform nature transformation, melting the ice cube," Mu Yue explained the first step of nature transformation training.
Nature transformation was considered a rather difficult and advanced aspect of ninja training.
Even if one had a large chakra reserve, their ninjutsu's power would still be limited if their nature transformation skill was lacking.
Fire nature transformation training was slightly more dangerous than wind because the burning nature of fire could affect the user.
Initially, Mu Yue had wanted Tobirama to practice on burning leaves. However, if he couldn't instantly turn the leaves to ash, his hands would get burned.
So, she came up with the idea of using ice cubes. Due to their extremely low temperature, they would only melt when exposed to fire, and Tobirama's flames wouldn't be able to heat up the water produced.
"This is so cold," Tobirama exclaimed, holding the ice cube and taking a sharp breath. It was still spring, and the temperature wasn't high, especially in the morning when the sun wasn't strong.
"Then release your chakra quickly," Mu Yue said, knocking Tobirama's head lightly with her two fingers.
Tobirama winced and pulled his neck back, then began to guide his chakra towards his palm, performing nature transformation before releasing it.
After two minutes, Obito felt water forming on his palm, and his face lit up with joy.
"Teacher, the ice cube is melting!" Obito exclaimed happily.
"Why don't you try holding a new ice cube in your hand for a few minutes?" Mu Yue suggested.
Intrigued, Obito tossed aside the partially melted ice cube and picked up another one of similar size. He held it in his hand without infusing it with chakra.
However, he soon felt embarrassed as the ice cube melted at a pace only slightly slower than before.
"The human body also has its temperature. Holding an ice cube of this size in your hand will cause it to melt without the need for chakra," Mu Yue explained, rubbing her forehead.
Fortunately, the weather wasn't hot; otherwise, Obito might have mistaken himself for a nature transformation prodigy.
"Hehe, I usually perform ninjutsu with my mouth. Using my hands feels a bit awkward," Obito said, scratching his head.
"Always keep the nature of fire in mind when performing nature transformation," Mu Yue said as she took out an ice cube the size of a human head and held it in her palm.
Sizzle, sizzle!
As Mu Yue finished speaking, a red light flashed, and the large ice cube instantly turned into white smoke, evaporating into the air.
"High temperature, burning," Obito muttered to himself as he constantly gathered and released chakra in his palm.
Before long, it was almost noon, and Obito's hands felt numb from the cold. His skin had also turned pale and wrinkled from prolonged contact with the water.
"Think about it carefully. The taste of the river water isn't bad either," Obito said, feeling a bit regretful that he hadn't agreed to Mu Yue's suggestion to practice earlier.
This nature transformation training was even more torturous than treading water.
"Let's take a break from training and have some lunch," Mu Yue called out to the three boys, handing each of them a lunch box.
"The food smells so good today!" Might Guy exclaimed as he opened the lid, his soul captivated by the aroma and the dazzling golden light emanating from the box.
"Teacher Mu Yue, there's something strange about this food; it's glowing!" Might Guy said, a little bewildered.
"It's just the sunlight reflecting off the box. Don't worry, it's safe to eat," Mu Yue reassured him with a faint smile.
Might Guy took a spoonful and popped it into his mouth, and his eyes instantly lit up with a brilliant light. He began shoveling spoonfuls of the fried rice into his mouth at an incredible speed.
"Delicious! Delicious!" Might Guy exclaimed, feeling as if he had never tasted such wonderful food before.
[You gave your disciple Golden Egg Fried Rice. Your disciple is extremely grateful for the reward bonus, gaining Chakra +100]
Mu Yue nodded in satisfaction. The cooking skill was indeed very powerful.
"Guy, are you that tired from training today?" Obito asked, feeling that Might Guy's reaction was a bit exaggerated. Although Teacher Mu Yue was a good cook, there was no need to eat so hastily.
"It does smell pretty amazing," Obito commented as he opened his lunch box, his initial thoughts slightly altered.
His lunch wasn't egg fried rice, but a homely stir-fry.
Obito picked up some vegetables with his chopsticks and took a mouthful of rice along with it.
"Delicious!" Obito exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise at the burst of flavors in his mouth.
He then began to devour his food, shoveling mouthful after mouthful into his mouth until he bit into a chili pepper hidden in the dish.
A terrifying spicy sensation exploded in his mouth, and Obito felt as if he had stumbled upon an active volcano, the surrounding air hot and dry.
