Chapter 369: Yang Seal
Chapter 369: Yang Seal
"Today, I'll be teaching you a new taijutsu technique," Mu Yue announced to the group of ninjas. "This technique is slightly more challenging than the Shunshin no Jutsu, so feel free to ask me any questions during the lesson."
Even though Mu Yue had modified the Yami no Koho to make it easier to learn, it was still considered an A-rank technique. In Konoha's ranking system, B-rank techniques were already considered advanced ninjutsu, while A-rank techniques were extremely advanced.
The thirty trainee ninjas in the room exchanged glances, their expressions reflecting a mix of curiosity and excitement. Some wondered if this new technique was another one of Mu Yue's creations, while others were thrilled by the prospect of learning something more challenging and potentially more powerful.
"This technique is called Yami no Koho, an A-rank taijutsu that I've developed myself," Mu Yue explained. "Its main feature is the enhancement of physical strength through focused breathing."
Mu Yue wasted no time in introducing the technique they would be learning.
"It's another one of his self-created techniques, and it's an extremely advanced one at that," thought Sarutobi Hiruzen, one of the Root members, feeling a newfound respect for Mu Yue.
In Hiruzen's opinion, Yami no Koho stood out even among other A-rank techniques, as it offered both strength enhancement and accelerated recovery.
Typically, Mu Yue would only teach such a powerful technique to his disciples, or perhaps only to those who could carry on his legacy. Yet, here he was, imparting this knowledge to a large group of trainees. Hiruzen couldn't help but admire Mu Yue's generosity and dedication to their improvement.
The other Root and ANBU members also wore expressions of surprise. They had already been amazed to learn the Shunshin no Jutsu during their training, and now they were being taught something even more extraordinary.
"The most crucial aspect of Yami no Koho is breathing," Mu Yue continued. "To begin, you'll need to maintain a specific posture to familiarize yourself with the breathing rhythm of this technique."
Teaching the breathing technique to the Root and ANBU members was somewhat easier than it had been with Obito and his team. These ninjas were already highly skilled and well-versed in maintaining specific postures for extended periods.
When the afternoon training session began, Mu Yue used his Appraisal Technique to assess the group's progress. To his satisfaction, he found that all the ninjas had already developed some level of proficiency in Yami no Koho, with a few even reaching two points of mastery.
Mu Yue nodded in approval, pleased that his modifications to the technique had made it significantly easier to grasp than a typical breathing technique.
Even Obito, who had an innate affinity for the Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu, had taken three days to reach the first level of mastery. In contrast, these Root and ANBU members had made remarkable progress in just half a day.
By the end of the training session, the fastest learner had achieved three points of mastery, while the rest had at least one point. Most of the ninjas averaged around two points of proficiency.
[Intermediate Lecture Completed]
[Evaluation: S]
[Rewards: Enhanced Understanding of Breathing Techniques, Yami no Koho +50, Basic Breathing +25, Raiton no Koho +12]
"As I suspected, the size of the class isn't the only factor in determining the lecture's evaluation," Mu Yue mused. "The strength of the students and the quality of the lesson also play a significant role in achieving an S-rank evaluation."
Mu Yue now had a better understanding of the three key factors contributing to an S-rank evaluation: student count, student level, and teaching quality. The more of these factors he could satisfy, the higher his chances of attaining that coveted S-rank.
For example, during the special holiday training, the overall skill level of the students had been relatively low, with half of them still attending the Ninja Academy. However, the large number of participants had contributed to the S-rank evaluation.
"I wonder what the rewards would be if the class size were larger, the students stronger, and the teaching quality remained high?" Mu Yue felt a surge of anticipation for the potential rewards of future lectures.
There was still room for improvement in his teaching, and he possessed ninjutsu techniques that were even more advanced than Yami no Koho. Additionally, Konoha boasted more than just thirty elite ninjas.
Setting aside his thoughts about the future, Mu Yue turned his attention to the rewards listed on the panel. The S-rank evaluation for the intermediate lecture seemed to offer similar rewards to the standard S-rank evaluation, all of which were related to the content of the lesson.
As expected, his proficiency in Yami no Koho, the technique he had taught, had increased. The Basic Breathing technique, which formed the foundation for Yami no Koho, had also improved, along with Raiton no Koho, which he had drawn upon during the development of Yami no Koho.
However, Mu Yue's interest was particularly piqued by the "Enhanced Understanding of Breathing Techniques" reward. While increased proficiency inherently led to a better understanding, the fact that the system listed it as a separate reward suggested that there was more to it.
As Mu Yue contemplated this, a new idea for developing the Futon no Koho took shape in his mind. Checking his panel, he noticed that the proficiency of all his breathing techniques had increased slightly.
Mu Yue began to grasp the nature of this reward. It did indeed enhance his understanding of breathing techniques, and the increase in proficiency was just one of its effects. The reward also granted him new insights into the breathing techniques he was currently developing.
For an entire week, Mu Yue continued to instruct the group in breathing techniques. On the following Monday, however, he switched things up and spent the day teaching them about chakra nature transformation.
"While it's important to hone your taijutsu skills, we must not neglect ninjutsu," Mu Yue explained, offering a rationale for the change in lesson content.
Of course, this was just an excuse. Mu Yue wanted to compare the S-rank evaluations of the intermediate and standard lectures to see if there were any differences.
The ninjas did not question his decision and, in fact, seemed pleased by the change. While most ninjas were proficient in chakra nature transformation, very few could match Mu Yue's level of mastery, as evidenced by the powerful katon technique that had overwhelmed their attacks.
[Intermediate Lecture Completed]
[Evaluation: S]
[Rewards: Enhanced Understanding of Chakra Nature Transformation, Raiton Chakra Nature Transformation +20, Doton Chakra Nature Transformation +18, Suiton Chakra Nature Transformation +13, Katon Chakra Nature Transformation +9]
Studying the rewards listed on the panel, Mu Yue confirmed his suspicion that the S-rank evaluation for the intermediate lecture offered a unique reward related to the content of the lesson—in this case, an enhanced understanding of chakra nature transformation.
He also noticed that even his Hyoton technique had increased in proficiency, albeit by a smaller margin of around ten points. This suggested that he might be able to develop a kekkei genkai by repeatedly achieving S-rank evaluations in intermediate lectures.
However, Mu Yue currently had little interest in developing a new kekkei genkai, as it wouldn't significantly benefit him. Instead, he yearned for an improvement in his understanding of fuinjutsu, which would accelerate his progress in developing new sealing techniques.
Unfortunately, fuinjutsu fell outside the scope of the required ninja curriculum, and teaching it during this training session would seem odd and out of place, akin to suddenly introducing competition-level problems to a regular class.
During this month of training, the ninjas learned a lot. Most of them could now use the Swiftness Technique, and their progress with the Yami no Koho was also about halfway there.
Mu Yue had also gained a lot. The A-rank evaluation granted him access to the secret techniques of the Inuzuka clan, and the S-rank evaluation accelerated his development of the Wind Release: Pressure Damage. He would be able to complete his research on the Wind Release within the next two weeks and then move on to studying the Solar Lock.
And then, a joyous event occurred. His "seal technique power bank" plan finally made some progress.
"Let's call it the Yang Seal," Mu Yue said with a smile as he looked at the pile of draft papers on his desk.
With an existing ninjutsu to refer to, Mu Yue directly modeled the Yang Seal based on the Yin Seal, creating one that he could cultivate himself.
However, this was currently only a semi-finished product. Just like how the Yin Seal was incomplete, the Yang Seal was also missing a ninjutsu similar to the Byakugo no Jutsu to complement it.
Mu Yue already had some ideas for its development, which involved binding it with a breathing technique.
When not in combat, the Yang Seal would only leak a weak flow of chakra to enhance the effects of the breathing technique, improving his physical abilities. During battles, the seal would be unlocked, automatically activating the breathing technique's empowered state.
The empowered state consumed chakra at a terrifying rate, but if the Yang Seal's chakra was used in combat, it would be like Mu Yue had stored a powerful move that didn't require any cooldown.
He had the idea, but Mu Yue still faced many challenges in the specifics of its development. How to bind the breathing technique with the Yang Seal was a significant hurdle.
Mu Yue was someone who disliked wasting resources, so that afternoon, he went straight to Tsunade's house.
Although many people laughed at Tsunade for turning her grandfather's passive technique into a powerful move, in Mu Yue's opinion, Tsunade, who had created the Byakugo no Jutsu, was undoubtedly a ninjutsu prodigy, possessing knowledge that he lacked.
"Mu Yue, you're here," Tsunade said with a smile as she lay on the sofa, contemplating life. Seeing Mu Yue, she immediately got up and walked over to him, then reached out to take the bag he was holding. "Let me see what delicious food you brought."
"There's no chicken, but the beef should be fine," Mu Yue replied.
Tsunade nodded in satisfaction after checking the contents of the bag.
Mu Yue put the groceries in the kitchen and then asked, "Tsunade-sama, I have a new idea about the automatic healing ninjutsu that we discussed last time. What do you think about discussing it further?"
Jiraiya brought over two cups of tea and placed them in front of them.
Tsunade picked up her tea and took a sip before lazily sitting back on the sofa and answering, "Go ahead. If it weren't for you reminding me, I would have almost forgotten about it."
Tsunade wasn't very interested in enhancing her combat abilities anymore. She no longer wanted to continue fighting as a ninja.
Even if she had this thought before Mu Yue brought it up, she lacked the motivation to develop it and would only think about it when she was extremely bored.
Mu Yue maintained his gentle smile, his expression unchanged by Tsunade's words.
"My idea is like this..." Mu Yue explained in detail, drawing from his impression of the Byakugo no Jutsu and his understanding of medical ninjutsu.
At first, Tsunade was unmoved, still lounging lazily on the sofa. But as she listened, she gradually straightened her posture.
She realized that Mu Yue had genuinely put thought and effort into this, and it must have taken him a long time to come up with such a well-thought-out proposal.
"Actually, you don't need to be so invested in this idea. You can't cultivate the Yin Seal anyway, so this technique doesn't hold much significance for me," Tsunade said, tugging at her hair.
Mu Yue had been too good to her, and she felt a little uncomfortable with how well he treated her. It was hindering her from slacking off.
"I've developed a Yang Seal that's similar to the Yin Seal, and it has comparable drawbacks. I think this idea will also be beneficial for me to develop complementary ninjutsu for the Yang Seal," Mu Yue explained, then picked up his tea and took a sip of the hot beverage.
"Ah, the Yang Seal?" Tsunade was a little surprised. Could he have already created something comparable to the S-rank Yin Seal? Mu Yue handed her a scroll, which contained the Yang Seal he had developed.
Tsunade took the scroll and carefully examined it. Being familiar with the Yin Seal, she felt that this sealing technique looked somewhat familiar.
"You must have had the Yin Seal right next to you when you were creating this," Tsunade commented, but she was truly astonished by Mu Yue's talent for sealing techniques.
Even if he had imitated the Yin Seal, it was still a solid S-rank sealing technique. In the short time that she had given him the Yin Seal, it would have been impossible for an ordinary person to learn it, let alone replicate it with similar functionality. Mu Yue's talent for sealing techniques was evident.
Seeing how far Mu Yue had come, Tsunade reluctantly shared some of her own thoughts on the matter.
"I'm so tired," Tsunade said, feeling mentally exhausted. Her desire to slack off was overwhelming, and she turned to Shizune and asked, "Shizune, have I been good to you? Will you listen to me?"
Shizune smiled and replied, "Yes, Tsunade-sama has been very kind to me. Of course, I will listen to you."
Although Tsunade often stayed drunk in bed and relied on Shizune, a child not yet ten years old, to take care of her daily needs, Shizune was grateful to Tsunade. In her, Shizune had found the warmth of family.
"In that case, I command you to reach my level of medical ninjutsu within a week and then research ninjutsu with Mu Yue," Tsunade ordered.
Shizune looked at Tsunade with a bewildered expression, wondering why Tsunade was suddenly spouting nonsense.
"You shouldn't trouble Shizune like that," Mu Yue said, barely holding back his laughter.
"If you don't like this idea, Tsunade-sama, I won't bring it up again," he added.
A complex expression appeared on Tsunade's face. On one hand, she had the option of a lazy life filled with drinking and doing nothing. On the other hand, there was the prospect of delicious meals but also the need to resume her ninjutsu research. It was a difficult choice.
"Let's leave it to chance. We'll roll a die," Tsunade finally decided, leaving it up to fate.
"If I win, I'll help you wholeheartedly with developing the ninjutsu you have in mind. But if I lose, we'll forget about this, and you can continue learning medical ninjutsu as before," Tsunade proposed.
Although she loved gambling, Tsunade was well aware of her unlucky streak. While most people lost nine out of ten gambles, she lost ten out of ten.
If she suddenly won this time, it would be truly unexpected.
