Chapter 369: Just Right
Chapter 369: Just Right
Makarov was fine, but he wanted to have a few more drinks before writing his apology.
Mira suspected he was using his bad mood as an excuse to drink, but in the end, she couldn't bring herself to refuse him.
True to his word, Makarov lit the lamp and started writing at the table after a few drinks.
His writing speed seemed to flow effortlessly.
The Guild Master, writing a hundred apology letters after drinking? Poor old man.
Rod was mindful of his work and kept an extra eye out, only leaving the tavern at closing time to ensure Makarov returned home safely.
Every day at closing time, there were always people who wanted to linger at the tavern.
Rod had no choice but to shoo them away.
When he first started working at the tavern, he was shy and spoke politely.
But after getting to know everyone, it became simpler: "Scram, we're closing!"
"What? You're kicking us out so early?"
"Yeah, how can you treat customers like this?"
"So annoying, who's up for beating up Rod?"
Recently, an unspoken rule had formed at Fairy Tail—if you wanted to stay at the tavern a little longer, you just had to beat Rod.
However, after asking, no one responded. It was a joke; they were already tired from working during the day, why would they want a beating at night? Last time, when Carla got drunk and didn't want to leave, she even got beaten up by Rod.
"Come on, if you want to fight, let's go." Rod's confidence had grown with his increased strength, "Hey, you there, you haven't paid yet, don't try to run away!"
The crowd paid their tabs and left reluctantly, knowing they should get some rest before work in the morning.
Bigida and Marcus discussed on their way home, considering finding a way to hire Elusa to beat up Rod and change that ridiculous rule.
Laki, while clearing the tableware, asked, "Hey, you're always in a rush to leave work. Are you eager to go on a sweet date with Mira?"
Rod felt this girl had some misunderstanding about him, "We're going to practice together in the evening, and don't you want to get off work early too?"
"I think creating more labor value is good too."
"Okay, then after cleaning up, you can stay and continue making wood, and I'll help you recover your magic power."
"I refuse!"
This girl was a real troublemaker.
Currently, Rod and Mira's primary focus in their training was to increase their magic power, and they were quite compatible in this aspect.
Perhaps this was the drawback of receiving magic; they could burst out with power and combat strength far beyond normal in a short time, but the magic consumption was terrifying.
It made sense; the more powerful the receiving target, the more their output power increased.
With higher power, the endurance decreased.
Most of the lights at the construction site had gone out, leaving only two dim lamps.
The two sat facing each other on the ground, meditating with their eyes closed.
This kind of training had become a part of their daily lives.
Before the guild was destroyed, Rod had to be more diligent, seizing every opportunity to train.
According to Mira's estimate, with this kind of training, in two or three months, Rod would have the potential to match Elusa's magic power.
Of course, by then, Elusa might have made new progress herself.
Hoo...
A gust of wind blew from Rod's body, signaling the end of a training session.
He opened his eyes and saw Mira's hair and sportswear fluttering in the wind, but she remained quiet with her eyes closed, immersed in her own training.
Rod watched Mira for a while, then lay down on the ground, using his arm as a pillow.
The dim light couldn't hide the stars in the sky, and the night sky was dotted with stars, with white mist swirling among them.
Rod carefully identified the Lyra, Swan, and Archer constellations in the night sky.
Before his rebirth, he was unfamiliar with these, but when he learned about Celestial Spirit Magic, he also came to recognize them.
He knew that behind these constellations were keys, each representing a Celestial Spirit.
Yes, the unit of measurement for Celestial Spirits was 'bodies,' and some also used 'individuals.' Like his Wild Monsters, perhaps some Celestial Spirit Mages didn't treat their spirits as well as he did his monsters.
Only Lucy was a bit different; among all the Celestial Spirit Mages, she might be considered an 'odd one out,' which was probably why she fit so well with Fairy Tail.
Rod's thoughts wandered, wondering if Mira knew these constellations, thinking he could show off to her later.
The most eye-catching sight in the night sky, aside from the stars, was the moon. Tonight, it was a crescent moon, resembling Mira's smile with her teeth showing.
Rod couldn't help but stare at the moon, feeling like he could see Mira's entire face in the night sky.
He couldn't help but think that if he connected the right stars with lines, he might be able to outline her entire figure.
A familiar gentle breeze blew by, indicating that Mira had finished her meditation.
A smile more beautiful than the moon itself then filled his vision.
Her white hair fell down, bathed in a soft golden glow from the lights.
Mira tucked her hair behind her ear and asked with a smile, "What are you thinking about?"
"I was thinking about you."
"You're lying."
"I'm telling the truth."
"But I'm right here beside you."
"Even if you were in my arms, I'd still think about you." Rod gently caressed her cheek with one hand, "I find tonight's starry sky beautiful, but when you appear in my sight, I can't help but focus on you instead of the stars."
Mira pouted, wanting to call him a smooth talker, but the smile on her face couldn't be contained, "You're shameless, saying such words without blushing?"
Rod looked into her beautiful eyes, "Maybe later, when I'm truly moved, I won't blush."
Foul play.
Mira adjusted her hair again and leaned down to peck Rod on the lips.
This time, Rod didn't take the opportunity to embrace her but instead laid his arm flat.
Mira naturally rested on his arm, gazing at the stars above with him.
In this environment and atmosphere, a light kiss was just right; nothing more was needed.
"Look over there, that star, and that one... If you connect them like this, you get the Lyra Constellation."
"Which ones?"
"Right there, come a little closer, and follow my hand."
"Hmm, I remember Lucy has the Lyra Constellation's Celestial Spirit Key."
"Yes, that's the Lyra Constellation."
"Where's the Little Dog Constellation? Lucy's Pluto."
"The Little Dog Constellation? You can't see it now; it's easier to find in the winter."
Showing off his knowledge to the girl he liked was a delightful feeling, especially when she was willing to listen and respond.
"What a pity." Mira's head had already moved to Rod's shoulder, and she rubbed against it gently, finding the most comfortable position. She continued to point at the stars and ask questions.
Rod answered each question, occasionally stroking her hair.
The night sky was as cool as water, and they gazed at the stars of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.
Rod felt that if someone were to paint this scene, it would be even more beautiful than any poem could describe.
At least, that's how he felt in his heart, and he believed she felt the same.
