Chapter 368: Why Don't You Hang Them from the Ceiling and Whip Them?
Chapter 368: Why Don't You Hang Them from the Ceiling and Whip Them?
Precisely because of this, Ivan has always been reluctant to meet with Dumbledore, as this sense of powerlessness has been quite distressing for him.
However, what Ivan found strange was that from the moment he entered the room, he hadn't sensed any signs of Dumbledore using Legilimency. He wondered if Dumbledore had already used it on Hermione and he hadn't noticed.
"Can you tell me what you used the Time Turner for?" Dumbledore asked sternly.
"This is a personal matter, and I'm not comfortable sharing it with you, Professor!" Ivan hesitated for a moment before shaking his head.
What could he say? That he went back to Knockturn Alley to save Aisha and killed a group of vicious Dark Wizards?
Although they were all thugs, he was only a thirteen-year-old Wizard, and the fact that he had taken so many lives could make Dumbledore think differently about him.
Ivan's response disappointed Dumbledore, but he didn't intend to press further. If Ivan was unwilling to speak, further questioning would be futile.
"Since that's the case, I must impose appropriate penalties for your rule violations!" Dumbledore said solemnly.
Ivan's heart leapt to his throat, and Hermione bit her lip nervously.
Dumbledore interlaced his fingers, his blue eyes fixed on Ivan as he continued.
"First, you! Hals! You used the Time Turner to travel back in time without authorization, violating the Ministry of Magic's regulations. Gryffindor House will lose one hundred points due to your actions!"
"And you, Miss Granger!" Dumbledore's gaze shifted to Hermione. "You failed to fulfill your supervisory responsibilities, so I will deduct another fifty points from Gryffindor House and confiscate this Time Turner, as you clearly do not have the ability to keep it safe."
Dumbledore fell silent, allowing the two to process this news.
Hermione lowered her head, looking very sad, while Ivan was somewhat surprised.
Just like that? Just deduct points?
Ivan was confused and, after a moment's thought, spoke up.
"Professor, what about the compensation? I broke the Time Turner. How many Galleons do I need to pay the Ministry?"
Ivan inquired about the approximate cost of the Time Turner, feeling a bit heartbroken. Most of the Galleons he had saved were taken from Lockhart, but they were hard-earned!
However, Dumbledore remained silent for a long time, and Ivan's heart sank. He tentatively asked:
"Three thousand Galleons enough?"
"Five thousand Galleons?" Ivan felt his heart constrict as Dumbledore remained silent.
"Ten thousand Galleons?!" Ivan was desperate; he could only afford up to ten thousand Galleons.
Where did you get so much money? Dumbledore gave Ivan a curious look, suspecting that he might have done something unsavory while traveling back in time.
"There's no need for compensation. You were lucky this time. I happen to know an alchemy master who should be able to repair this Time Turner", Dumbledore explained.
Ivan let out a slow breath, his tense expression relaxing. This way, they wouldn't have to worry about the Ministry of Magic causing them trouble.
Hermione, however, was puzzled. She had read in a book that the method for creating Time Turners had been lost for several centuries, and it was said that no one knew how to manufacture or repair them anymore.
Ivan, on the other hand, remembered that Brock had mentioned that Nicolas Flamel might still have the method for creating Time Turners.
And Nicolas Flamel just happens to be one of Dumbledore's good friends, so the Alchemy master the old professor mentioned could only be him!
Thinking of this, Ivan felt somewhat tempted. With his current level of Alchemy, it would not be easy to improve further, and Nicolas Flamel was one of the few people in the Wizarding World capable of teaching him.
Ivan opened his mouth but ultimately decided not to speak. He had just broken a Time Turner, and he felt too ashamed to ask Dumbledore about meeting with Nicolas Flamel.
Besides, he and Nicolas Flamel had no familial ties, and there was no reason for the latter to teach him Alchemy.
"Professor Dumbledore, what about our classes?" Hermione suddenly thought of the schedule for the next morning. Without the Time Turner, they no longer had the ability to attend multiple classes simultaneously.
"That means you will have to cancel a few conflicting classes and personally apologize and explain the situation to the respective professors!" Dumbledore paused, then added sternly,
"So I hope you will remember this lesson."
Seeing the two of them nod solemnly, taking his words to heart, Dumbledore waved his hand. "Well, if there's nothing else, you may leave!"
"Thank you, Professor!" Before leaving, Ivan expressed his gratitude.
Ivan knew that without Dumbledore finding someone to repair the Time Turner, they would certainly be held accountable by the Ministry of Magic. At that point, it wouldn't just be a matter of losing House points.
Once the two left the headmaster's office, the room returned to its peaceful state.
Dumbledore gazed at the severely damaged Time Turner in his hand, lost in thought.
From the portrait behind him, a bearded old man began to chatter.
"Albus, you are far too lenient with these students who have committed such a serious mistake. They broke a precious Time Turner and even planned to lie about it.
If I were still the headmaster, I would have them hung from the ceiling and flogged severely, then locked in a dark room until they confessed the truth!"
"Mr. Black, I must remind you that the practice of corporal punishment was abolished decades ago! I must follow the school rules", Dumbledore explained casually.
According to the current school rules, there were still means of punishment available.
However, considering that Ivan and Hermione had too many classes and little free time, these minor punishments would not have much of an Effect, so Dumbledore did not mention them.
As for Ivan deliberately hiding what he had done when he traveled back in time, it left Dumbledore somewhat helpless. Unless necessary, he did not want to use Legilimency to uncover everything.
Especially since he had already noticed that Ivan was on guard and had even learned to use Occlumency to create false memories to deceive him.
In such a situation, forcefully using Legilimency would only backfire, making Ivan more dissatisfied and wary of him.
"Fawkes! Take me to Nick!" After some thought, Dumbledore held the Time Turner, stood up, turned to Fawkes, and said.
