Chapter 368: It's a Good Thing He's Not Too Bright
Chapter 368: It's a Good Thing He's Not Too Bright
As the Chaos Warrior's sword light descended, the black mist that made up the crawfish's body finally faltered and began to shrink and collapse, evaporating like a puddle under the sun.
"Damn it. Oh well. I've absorbed almost all the power I can from this place anyway. There's no point in staying any longer."
The crawfish glared at You Xuan with chilling disdain.
"You got lucky this time, duelist. But I'll remember you. We will meet again soon, and it might be sooner than you think."
His voice turned even colder as he paused momentarily.
"Much sooner than you imagine."
By the time he finished speaking, his figure had completely faded away, leaving no trace behind.
"So this guy is the culprit behind all of this?" Iwano wondered aloud as he watched the darkness dissipate.
"It seems so," You Xuan replied.
You Xuan silently removed the card pack that the crawfish had been using and walked back to his motorcycle.
"Let's go. We have a plan to execute, don't we?"
"Oh right! Hurry!"
Iwano turned around hastily. The power station was now within sight, and the two sped towards it without hesitation.
Based on the crawfish's words, You Xuan suspected that the zombie crisis in this town was likely the crawfish's doing as well. Referring to the manga, the crawfish was supposedly excavated by an archaeological team known as the "Manga Team Extinction Engine." However, even after being released, it remained in a semi-sealed state, possessing only a fraction of its original strength.
Perhaps this town had become its personal cafeteria, a source of nourishment for its resurrection. Every "zombie" was a tool to help it absorb more nutrients, and each person attacked and drained of their darkness would become another zombie in its army.
Speaking of which, the crawfish's sealing process back then was quite amusing.
It had taken residence within a fortune-teller and was caught by the priests when it attempted to infiltrate the forbidden palace where the Pharaoh kept the Duel Monster stone slabs.
The priests summoned the sprite "Winged Chestnut Ball," and from the manga, it could be seen that the feathers of the Winged Chestnut Ball were once as white as snow. The Chestnut Ball had the ability to extract a criminal's heart and place it on the priests' "Millennium Scales" to judge the extent of their sins.
The crawfish coldly watched as the priests took out its heart and placed it on the scales. To their shock, the moment the heart touched the scales, the side with the heart crashed straight into the floor, indicating that the darkness within the crawfish's heart far exceeded the measuring limit of the Millennium Scales.
Only then did the crawfish break into a triumphant laugh, revealing its true form. "Are you surprised, stupid priests? Tremble before my power!"
But to its surprise, the priests pulled out their Millennium artifacts and subdued it with ease. The crawfish realized, with astonishment, that it could only muster less than half of its usual strength.
"Wait, where's my heart? I can't use my full power without it!" It was then that the crawfish realized its mistake.
In its eagerness to show off the depths of its dark heart, it had allowed the Winged Chestnut Ball to take its heart and place it on the scales, forgetting to take it back.
Enraged and unwilling, the crawfish roared as it was sealed away by the combined efforts of the priests.
Its cause of death? Showing off and selling its heart too cheaply.
Perhaps the most hilarious downfall of any boss in the history of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Even so, the priests were astonished to discover that even when sealed within the stone slab, this creature retained its consciousness and could spew curses and insults at them. The sheer power of such a monster was something the priests had rarely encountered in their lifetimes.
The priests wiped their brows in relief, grateful for their narrow escape. "What a close call! Thankfully, this monster may be ridiculously strong, but it seems to be an idiot. If we had faced its full power, we might not have stood a chance."
The crawfish had promised a swift reunion, and it was clear that the one they had encountered was not its true form. While the fragment of its soul that had possessed the human body had been destroyed, its main body was still out there, biding its time.
Moreover, this world differed somewhat from the manga, and it was uncertain how far Tragogue's resurrection had progressed.
"But for now, let's focus on the task at hand."
Boom! The wall collapsed with a loud crash, and the Silent Magician burst through the hole in the wall.
All the zombies were attracted to the noise and shuffled towards the magician, howling. Floating in mid-air, the magician waved his staff, and magical light bullets blossomed in the air, scattering like a rain of flowers.
The constant bombardment was accompanied by the zombies' piercing shrieks, filling the entire hall with the smell of blasting gunpowder and dust.
What remained to be done was simple.
The Silent Magician single-handedly held back all the zombies, covering the duo as they rushed into the control room.
Iwano rushed into the control room first, while the magician released a large magic array at the doorway. The wizard zombie only touched the edge of the array before being forcefully repelled and unable to get any closer.
"Success!" Iwano shouted.
The machinery inside the power station rumbled to life, and electricity surged through the cables, spreading through the complex network to every corner.
"Hah, this was even easier than I thought," Iwano laughed heartily. "Let's go."
Their escape route had been carefully planned in advance based on the power station's map. All they needed to do now was leave through the emergency exit and get to the new motorbike that was waiting for them at the rendezvous point. From there, they could ride back to their base.
That was the plan.
You Xuan led the way and was the first to exit through the emergency door.
Iwano followed closely behind. But just as he was about to reach the door, he heard a loud bang.
The iron door, his only way out and just a few steps away, slammed shut in front of him.
Iwano froze, then quickly rushed to the door.
Through the iron bars, You Xuan stood silently on the other side, his face illuminated by the moonlight, exuding an eerie chill.
Without hesitation, You Xuan, who had exited first, closed the door, locking Iwano on the other side.
"Why are you doing this?!" Iwano exclaimed in disbelief through the iron bars.
"Now that I've removed the magic array that was blocking the zombies on the other side of the passage, they should be here in about thirty seconds," You Xuan said calmly, looking at Iwano locked inside.
"Why?! Are we not partners?!" Iwano asked, his eyes widening in anger.
"I don't recall that," You Xuan replied nonchalantly.
As they spoke, the sound of zombies could be heard from the corridor behind them.
Several faster zombies had already squeezed into the passage and were inching closer to Iwano's position. In less than ten seconds, he would likely be swallowed by the horde.
"Open the door!" Iwano demanded, pounding on it furiously.
You Xuan waved his hand dismissively. "I wish you luck."
He turned and walked away, leaving behind the sounds of Iwano's angry shouts, the banging on the door, and the approaching zombies.
But after only a few steps...
Bang! An incredible burst of energy exploded from behind the locked iron door, and the metal door, twisted by the force, flew out like a discarded piece of paper.
"Tch, I guess it's not that easy to deal with after all," You Xuan muttered, stopping in his tracks and turning to face the door.
The door had been blown open, and Iwano stepped out, his eyes glowing with an eerie green light. The zombies that had surrounded him were now sprawled on the ground.
The aura he exuded was completely different.
"As expected," You Xuan said, unsurprised.
"You're not Iwano, are you?" he asked.
"Iwano" stopped a few meters away, a cold smile on his face, and asked lazily, "When did you figure it out?"
This battle will also be a long one.
