Ivan climbed the winding staircase, his mind subconsciously activating Occlumency.

With a nervous heart, he entered the headmaster's office. The first thing he saw was Dumbledore, dressed in a gray Wizard robe, standing with his back to him, amusing Fawkes.

"Hals? Miss Granger? What brings you here?" Dumbledore, sensing the movement behind him, turned around and looked at the two, a bit surprised.
"Yes, Professor, we came to see you because of something important", Ivan hesitated, trying to figure out where to start.
"Sit down and tell me!" Dumbledore walked to his desk, and with a flick of his Wand, two chairs appeared beside Ivan and Hermione.
"I remember that every time you came to see me, you brought some surprising news. It seems this time is no different", Dumbledore interlaced his long fingers, his blue eyes behind his half-moon glasses fixing on Ivan, his tone slightly teasing.
You usually come to see me, Ivan thought to himself, then added, somewhat sheepishly, "This time, you will be even more surprised!"
Ivan made sure Dumbledore was mentally prepared before placing the damaged Time Turner on the table and speaking again.
"Do you remember the Time Turner you gave us? It's broken now!"
Seeing the cracked and nearly shattered Time Turner, Dumbledore's face showed a look of shock. After a long moment, he looked at Ivan and Hermione with a strange expression and said in a serious tone, "I think you need to explain what exactly happened. How did you break it?"
Ivan spoke with a hint of regret. "Professor, I'm very sorry! I was researching ways to improve the Polyjuice Potion, and I got too engrossed. I used the Time Turner too frequently and misjudged its limits, which led to this result."
Ivan had already prepared his explanation and even mentioned his recent work on improving the Potion. Dumbledore could easily find out from Snape that he had asked about Potion improvements, so there was no point in hiding it.
He could also say that, after gaining recognition and attention last year for developing the Wolfsbane Potion, he had become somewhat obsessed and was determined to make a big impact this year.
"Professor, I also take responsibility for this. The Time Turner broke while I was holding it", Hermione quickly interjected.

"I believe I warned you to use the Time Turner with caution! You also promised me that you would not use its power for anything other than your classes!"
Dumbledore’s face was stern, his deep eyes slowly sweeping over the two of them, pausing briefly on Hermione before quickly shifting to Ivan.
"And I think the matter is not as simple as you say, Hals!" Dumbledore took a few letters from his drawer and flipped them over, continuing.
"About a month ago, the day before the start of the term, the Dementors sent by the Ministry to guard Hogwarts intercepted someone suspected to be Sirius Black, who was trying to enter Hogwarts from the air, not far from the castle.
Of course, the Dementors’ interception failed. For this, Minister Fudge sent me several letters, wanting to dispatch more Dementors to conduct a thorough search of Hogwarts, but I refused!"
As Dumbledore spoke, he watched Ivan’s reaction. According to his knowledge, there were not many Wizards capable of breaking through the blockade of dozens of Dementors.
Especially based on the information from the Ministry, the person seemed to have even concealed their identity and defeated the Dementors without releasing a Patronus. Sirius Black absolutely could not have done that.

Previously, Ivan had thought these letters were from Dean Dought. Now, it seemed he had misunderstood. No wonder Dumbledore was hesitant to give him the Time Turner and had specifically mentioned the dangers of using it.
Hermione’s face turned ashen, and she couldn’t help but look at Ivan with a questioning gaze, wanting to know what to do now.
Dumbledore saw their reactions and became even more certain of his suspicions.
Ivan quickly regained his composure, his expression unchanged as he apologized.
"I’m sorry, Professor. Please forgive me for using the Time Turner’s power without permission, causing its damage."
Ivan did not fabricate any excuses. With Dumbledore already certain, lying would be pointless.
Dumbledore could simply use Legilimency on Hermione to learn everything, and Ivan suspected that even his Occlumency would not be able to resist if Dumbledore exerted his full strength.
It all depended on whether Dumbledore wanted to do it or not.
