Chapter 366: Lanchi's New School Makeover
Chapter 366: Lanchi's New School Makeover
By the shimmering river that flowed through the city, the waters of the Helrom held more than just a reflective beauty; they carried liquid mineral springs imbued with magical energy.
As a Magus Craftsman, Lanchi couldn't help but be drawn to the river's edge, unconsciously stepping closer to analyze the shimmering surface. So focused was he that a sudden turn almost sent him tumbling into the waters, saved only by Xide's quick reflexes.
"Don't toy with a Magus Craftsman," Lanchi chided, his tone indignant.
"Rest assured, even if you fell, I would catch you," Xide retorted with a hint of pride, her hands confidently resting on her hips as if expecting a thank you.
She always handled him with care, never causing him any harm.
The duo, now familiar with the area, knew to avoid the old district where space was distorted. As a result, they invariably found themselves walking alongside this enchanting river.
Chatting leisurely and occasionally bickering playfully, they carefully navigated their way around the Helrom Zoo.
The zoo was too eerie to venture into without a fully-recovered Sigrid. As they passed by, the endless library and the starlight theater loomed nearby, and soon, the grand entrance of the Protoss Royal Magic Academy came into view.
Lanchi's first impression of the academy when he had arrived in the imperial capital of Helrom with Zestila was the surprising proximity to the station.
It had been a while since their last visit, and now, as they approached the school, they found the vast square outside transformed into a lush garden of budding magic plants. At its center stood the academy's brand-new entrance.
Departing from the traditional architectural style of Helrom, the gateway possessed an air of ancient mystery, as if plucked from a long-lost era of the magical world. The fusion of wild landscapes and temple-building techniques from within the Primordial Tablets added to its ethereal allure, creating an otherworldly blend of heaven and underworld.
Many residents of the imperial capital had already begun flocking to this spot to capture memories and mementos of the magnificent structure.
Hurrying inside with Lanchi, Xide knew only that the school's latest renovation plan was personally overseen by the principal.
She wondered what kind of impact this creation would have on Helrom.
The only certainty was that it would likely become a landmark of Helrom, celebrated in books and perhaps even renowned across the Southern Continent, bearing the name of the legendary craftsman, Rocky McCasky.
"Back in your homeland, weren't you a famous artist?" Xide asked, her gaze shifting between the mesmerizing scenery and Lanchi, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
"No," Lanchi shook his head with a smile. "Aside from the prince, who adores my paintings, no one else has really seen my work."
He had only recently left home as a second-order Magus, and at the time, he felt it best to keep a low profile, so he lived a rather modest life in the Kingdom of Herton.
As it turned out, his instincts were correct. Like the owners of those tablets, he could have been targeted simply for possessing extraordinary power.
It was only after establishing himself in the Northern Continent, building a solid foundation for his endeavors, and having a powerful patron that he felt comfortable enough to fully express his talents.
Once he returned to the Southern Continent, however, he would need to be more cautious again. Tata, his bargain-basement bodyguard, was a far cry from the reliability of Xide, and until he truly stepped into the realm of the seventh-order and beyond, it would be wise to maintain a low profile. Even the mighty Duke Migaiya could disappear without a trace if marked by the wrong people.
Xide furrowed her brows, confusion clouding her features.
Could it be that the prince admired not only his paintings but also the painter himself?
"You're better at painting?"
Sigrid, an avid collector of art, had transformed her home into a gallery of sorts. As a connoisseur, she believed that Saint's forte lay in sculpting and card-making, as well as landscape design.
In her opinion, aside from his serious painting endeavors, this young man dabbled in everything, but when it came to pure painting, she hadn't seen him devote much thought to the brush.
If he truly wanted to become a top-notch painter, he should seize his youth, work hard, and develop a passion for it.
"I know a little, it's just a hobby," was his standard response whenever someone inquired.
"Then, how many serious paintings have you created in the Southern Continent?" Sigrid asked, her curiosity piqued.
This young man had painted before, but his approach was too casual, as if he were just going through the motions. She had seen his sketches before, which he had nonchalantly displayed to the nobles in the Snowfield Province.
"Probably just one," he replied.
"..."
It seemed that he truly didn't enjoy painting.
"Good, I've figured out how to punish you," Sigrid said, a mischievous smile tugging at her lips as she looked at Lanchi.
"You don't mean... painting, do you?" Lanchi asked, turning to look at Sigrid, who was walking beside him.
He knew what Sigrid meant by "punishment." Back when they made the agreement to infiltrate the Extinction Branch together, Sigrid had stated that if she were to go all out and expose her identity, Lanchi would have to endure some form of punishment from her. Indeed, she hadn't forgotten about it.
"After everything is settled and I no longer need to conceal your identity, I want you to paint a picture for me. Let's call it, 'Rocky McCasky's Tribute to Archbishop Sigrid.' Then, we'll publicly execute you, letting everyone see that even Principal Rocky McCasky has something he's not good at." Sigrid explained with a cunning smile.
Punishment meant making someone do something they disliked. Only then would it be effective; otherwise, it would be more like a reward.
"Understood," Lanchi replied without much resistance, simply nodding in agreement. He would honor the rules he had agreed to.
The pair made their way through the bustling main road of the school, entering an area lined with courtyards and mansions on both sides, where the atmosphere was noticeably calmer.
"We're almost there," Sigrid announced as she led the way, soon locating Gloria's mansion based on the address. She rang the doorbell.
Not only had Sigrid assumed the identity of a first-year student from the Snowfield Province's Kingston City, but Lanchi had also temporarily set aside his appearance as Rocky McCasky.
After all, it might draw attention or cause misunderstandings if the principal were seen walking back from outside the school with a female student, and then strolling together through the school grounds.
The sound of the doorbell echoed through Gloria's mansion for a moment. Soon, footsteps approached, and the door opened to reveal a girl with a confused expression on her face.
Gloria blinked.
"Who... are you two?" Gloria asked, her voice laced with caution and curiosity as her gaze shifted between the two visitors.
"It's me," Sigrid affirmed, looking directly into Gloria's eyes.
"!"
Despite Gloria's initial puzzled expression, she instantly recognized the man and woman standing before her.
