Chapter 366: Intelligence is Crucial
Chapter 366: Intelligence is Crucial
Mu Yue already possessed a basic breathing technique that provided a modest boost to one's strength, but he had no intention of sharing it with anyone who wasn't his disciple unless they earned his trust.
While the basic breathing technique didn't offer a significant increase in power, it could be considered one of the cores of breathing techniques, with immense potential for development. Mu Yue's own Rock and Lightning Breathing techniques were built upon this foundation.
To use a numerical example, practicing the basic breathing technique to proficiency could only grant Root members of the ANBU a sixty-point boost in combat strength.
However, if a genius like Hiruzen Sarutobi or Danzo Shimura were to unlock the potential of this technique and develop something similar to Mu Yue's advanced breathing techniques, the ceiling would be immensely higher. The end result could be a breathing technique capable of increasing combat strength by five hundred points.
Mu Yue didn't underestimate the ninja of the ninja world just because he was a time-traveler with a system. A powerful figure like Tobirama Senju, who had created countless powerful jutsu and kinjutsu, could very well create a new kinjutsu if he were given the basic breathing technique.
Mu Yue didn't want to teach the basic breathing technique to the Root ANBU, as he feared that if a genius among them developed an advanced breathing technique, it could end up strengthening their enemies. That was an outcome he wanted to avoid.
Currently, Mu Yue had no open conflicts with the Konoha higher-ups like Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo Shimura. Root and the ANBU weren't his enemies, but he couldn't predict how things would change in the future.
The breathing technique Mu Yue intended to develop would provide a boost of a hundred points to one's combat strength at its peak, but it wouldn't go any further than that. There was no path to further improvement.
Teaching a more powerful technique could lead to better rewards and prevent strengthening his enemies, so Mu Yue naturally chose to develop a new breathing technique.
With his previous experience in developing breathing techniques and the enlightenment state, this task wasn't difficult for him.
...
"Sensei Kakashi," Kakashi, Obito, and the others greeted Minato respectfully on the training field.
As Mait Guy had completed his life mission, Mu Yue's special training could be considered a success, so after a few days, he declared the end of the special training session, and everyone except Itachi returned to their respective teams.
"I'm sorry. As your teacher, I wasn't as effective as Mu Yue," Minato apologized sincerely.
Although he was their official instructor, it was mostly Mu Yue who had helped Kakashi and the others grow.
"That's not true, Sensei Minato. You also went on missions to protect the village," Obito said, indicating that Minato didn't need to worry about such trivial matters.
"Obito's right, Sensei Minato. You don't need to apologize for that," Yoshino Rin agreed, nodding.
She was supposed to be training with Tsunade at this time, but since she hadn't trained with Minato, her sensei, for a while, she and Tsunade had taken a day off.
"Not taking us on missions was also for our safety," Kakashi said, showing that he understood Minato's decision.
In Kakashi's eyes, Minato was a dependable ninja as well.
Hearing the words of Kakashi and the others, a genuine smile appeared on Minato's face. He felt the joy of being understood as a teacher.
"Sensei Minato, are we training or going on a mission today?" Obito asked, seeing that Minato was in a better mood.
"Let's train first. I want to test your current strength," Minato replied after a moment's thought.
Although not much time had passed, with the normal growth rate of ninjas, there shouldn't have been any significant changes. However, Kakashi and Obito were obviously not normal cases, so he decided to start with a combat training session.
"Are we going to spar with you, Sensei Minato?" Obito scratched his head and continued.
He didn't really want to fight Minato, as it was always a frustrating experience. He often found himself unable to land a hit on Minato while getting beaten up himself, making him look rather foolish.
Minato nodded in affirmation.
"Sensei Minato, could you find another Konoha jonin to spar with us instead? I think it's important for us to face different ninjas to improve our adaptability," Obito suggested.
From his internship up to now, Obito had faced several jonin—the Cloud jonin they encountered during Mu Yue's mission, the Mist jonin during the Chunin Exams, and the Wind and Rain during the Snow Country could also be considered jonin. Obito felt that he could hold his own against jonin to some extent.
Minato considered Obito's suggestion and felt that there was some truth to it. He agreed and decided to call upon one of the jonin he had a good relationship with.
"Wait here for a moment. I'll be back soon," Minato said, disappearing from the trio's sight.
Minato first went to look for Dekai, a fellow member of Jiraiya's team.
Although he knew many jonin, Minato would naturally prioritize those with whom he had a better relationship.
Minato's luck held, and Dekai happened to be at home, neither on a mission nor out socializing.
He recalled that Dekai had been on a mission during the Chunin Exams and thus hadn't been present to watch the examinations.
"After all, they are your disciples, Minato," Dekai said with a hearty laugh, gently punching Minato's chest. He didn't seem too concerned.
In his opinion, although Minato was strong, his disciples had only graduated this year. No matter how excellent they were, they shouldn't pose much of a challenge.
While they couldn't compare to a true genius like Minato, Dekai's strength was still considered formidable among jonin. He didn't believe that a few newly graduated ninjas could give him any trouble.
"Then I'll trouble you with that," Minato said with a smile of gratitude, before using the Flying Thunder God Technique to bring Dekai back to the training field.
"Senior Dekai," Obito and Kakashi greeted Dekai upon seeing him.
They were familiar with Dekai, having shared a meal of the Hermit of Mt. Myoboku's bug cuisine with him on the Grass Country battlefield.
Dekai laughed heartily and patted Obito and Kakashi's shoulders.
"You've done well, Obito, becoming a Chunin so quickly," Dekai said, his eyes widening slightly at the sight of the jonin vest on Obito's body.
By his calculations, Obito had become a chunin just a few months after becoming a ninja.
"It's okay, the Chunin Exams weren't that difficult," Obito replied with a cheeky smile.
Even Asuma, whom he had defeated, had become a Chunin, so Obito didn't feel it was much of an achievement.
"In that case, I'll have to put in a bit more effort," Dekai said, noticing that the unfamiliar girl, Yoshino Rin, was also a Chunin. This was indeed a team of Chunins.
"Senior Dekai, we met him on the battlefield," Obito explained, noticing Yoshino Rin's confusion.
Yoshino Rin nodded thoughtfully, surmising that they must have met during their internship as ninjas.
After some conversation, it was time for the training to begin.
"My specialty is Lightning Release Ninjutsu, which is quite powerful. If any of you feel that you're unable to continue, just forfeit. Otherwise, you might get hurt," Dekai warned before the battle officially commenced.
"Senior Dekai, don't worry. Rin's medical ninjutsu is excellent, so even if we get injured, she can heal us," Obito said proudly.
"Since you think my healing skills are so great, don't try to tough it out if you're injured," Yoshino Rin retorted helplessly.
"Th-That's because I... I mean, I wasn't really injured," Obito stammered, his cheeks reddening.
He wanted to show off his best side to Yoshino Rin, so he sometimes refused to admit that he was hurt.
"How pure," Dekai remarked, looking at Obito and then at Yoshino Rin, feeling a pang of nostalgia for his own lost youth.
What? He didn't have any close female friends growing up? Well, that was that, then.
"Begin the training!" Minato called out, seeing that both sides were ready.
"Breath of Flames, Full Concentration!"
"Breath of Lightning, Full Concentration!"
Kakashi and Obito immediately focused their breathing to the highest level.
Kakashi had never seen Dekai fight with full strength; it was clear that he had been holding back a lot during his spar with Might Guy. However, since Dekai was Minato's teammate and Jiraiya's disciple, Kakashi believed that he was no pushover.
Yoshino Rin had been training in medical ninjutsu with Tsunade, so Obito hadn't seen much of her lately. Determined to impress her, Obito went all out from the start.
"Breath of Flames Chakra Mode!"
Obito focused his breathing to the peak, causing his chakra to stir wildly and his aura to surge.
As a jonin facing a team of genin who were all under the age of 10, Dekai naturally didn't take the initiative to attack first.
As Obito entered the Breath of Flames Chakra Mode, Dekai sensed something amiss.
Perceiving the intense heat emanating from not far away, Dekai furrowed his brow in confusion. Was this the aura of a ninja who had graduated less than a year ago?
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!"
Obito swiftly formed hand seals, converting a large amount of chakra into fire-attribute chakra and spitting it out in one breath.
Whoosh! !
The fiercely burning orange-red flames rapidly accumulated, eventually forming a massive fireball that hurtled towards Dekai.
Dekai reflected on his ninja career and thought that the intensity of this fireball was far beyond what a newly minted Chunin should be capable of.
In that moment, he even doubted if the person standing before him was truly Uchiha Obito, or if it was a jonin from Konoha in disguise, perhaps one skilled in Fire Style jutsu.
Although he could handle it, Dekai saw no point in receiving an attack that he could easily dodge. He gathered chakra in the soles of his feet, preparing to evade.
"Lightning Flash!"
Just then, Kakashi drew his White Fang, channeling all the chakra that had been gathered in his legs into his body, enhancing his physical attributes with lightning-attribute chakra, and charged towards Dekai.
Staring at the blood trickling down his arm, Dekai was astonished. Despite being a strong jonin of the Leaf, he had been injured by a child not yet ten years old.
When Dekai had dodged Obito's Fireball, Kakashi had suddenly rushed forward, moving faster than Dekai could react, leaving him unable to avoid the attack.
Dekai's initial contempt vanished as he realized that Minato's three disciples were no ordinary children. If he didn't get serious, he might actually lose.
He didn't want to lose, especially not to a group of kids, and have Shimura Danzo laugh at him.
Dekai's eyes flickered as he quickly assessed the trio, formulating a new battle plan. With a burst of chakra, he charged towards Obito.
With his body activated by lightning-attribute chakra, even Dekai's slightly plump figure exhibited astonishing speed.
Noticing Dekai's approach, Obito activated his Sharingan to enhance his dynamic vision, while Kakashi quietly gathered chakra, preparing to assist Obito.
However, just as Dekai was about to reach Obito, Obito had already gathered a massive amount of fire in his hands, and Kakashi released lightning towards Obito's front.
In that instant, Dekai suddenly braked and punched the ground with a lightning-infused fist.
Boom!
The ground erupted from the force of the explosion, sending rocks and dirt flying in all directions. Dekai immediately changed direction and rushed towards Rin, who was standing to the side, and threw a heavy punch at her.
At the beginning of the training, Obito had mentioned that Rin was a medical ninja, and since she hadn't participated in the previous attacks, Dekai assumed that her role in the team was primarily healing and that her close-quarters combat abilities were lacking. Therefore, he chose not to use his lightning-attribute chakra to strengthen his body for this attack.
Obito's Sharingan clearly saw Dekai's movements, but when he saw Dekai punch at Rin without using any jutsu, Obito didn't intervene and silently mourned for Dekai in his heart for a second.
"Super Strength Fist!"
Rin gathered a large amount of chakra in her fist and unleashed it with all her might, colliding with Dekai's fist.
Bang!
Dekai's expression twisted as he felt the monstrous force emanating from Rin's frail body.
Thanks to his tough physique, Dekai managed to withstand the impact for a moment before being knocked back by the sheer power.
As he flew backward, Dekai shot a resentful glance at Minato, who was observing from the side. "That's it?" he thought.
"Why are you so reckless, not using any chakra and just trading punches with Rin?" Obito shuddered, remembering how Rin had punched through a thick tree trunk.
That punch would have hurt a lot if it had landed on him.
Although it was just a training exercise, it was still a battle, and Kakashi and Obito immediately seized the opportunity to launch a joint attack.
Obito expended a large amount of chakra and spat out a huge sheet of flames, engulfing Dekai from multiple angles.
Kakashi entered his Transparent World state, converting a large amount of chakra into lightning-attribute chakra to enhance his body, infusing all his strength into the White Fang, and locked onto Dekai.
"Ahem, training is over." Minato coughed lightly, bringing the training session to an early end.
"I know. It's because I lacked information." Dekai said, his voice carrying a hint of consolation.
Indeed, if he had known about Obito and Kakashi's true abilities beforehand, he would have given it his all from the start. And if he had known about Rin's terrifying strength, he wouldn't have chosen to trade punches with her without using any chakra.
Although Minato spoke the truth, Dekai felt a tinge of sadness.
He had been defeated by three children who weren't even ten years old yet, and they were the disciples of his good friend.
As Dekai walked away, he left behind a lonely silhouette.
"If there's a need next time, remember to notify me, and I'll come with Shouhei." Dekai suddenly stopped and said.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He would have almost never lost in a normal fight, but his underestimation of his opponents and lack of information had led to his defeat. So, Dekai decided to let his good friend experience this feeling as well.
Minato smiled and nodded.
Shouhei was also a member of Jiraiya's team, and his strength was comparable to Dekai's.
Since Dekai's battle had ended too quickly, and the purpose of the training hadn't been achieved, Minato eventually had to step in and fight himself.
There's one more chapter coming up.
