Chapter 366: Come to My House, It's Close By
With Mira and Lucy's concern, Levy felt much better. She immediately decided to take on a mission to earn some living expenses and take her mind off things.
Rod recommended a treasure hunt and puzzle-solving mission suitable for the three of them.
The objective was to decipher a hidden code left in the client's grandfather's will and find a family heirloom sword, with a reward of 60,000 J, located in a town near Hakobe Mountain.
Not only Levy, but even Lucy was very interested in this mission.
Unfortunately, if she went with the Road Engine Squad, the reward wouldn't be enough to cover her rent.
On the other side, Erza calmed Natsu's emotions, "We should also go out and work. Gray, Lucy, let's get ready to set off."
"Have you already chosen a mission?" Lucy wanted to ask if Rod and Mira had any suggestions.
"I checked the bulletin board this morning, and it's this one, and no one has taken it yet." Erza tore off a mission form and placed it on the counter.
Raid on a magic cult causing trouble near Rubinas, with a reward of 500,000 J.
The magic cult wasn't a black magic cult, and they didn't worship Jellv. They were just a high-level bandit gang causing chaos with their magic.
Concerned about her rent, Lucy was a little cautious, "Mr. Rod, do you have any advice?"
"Advice? Just make sure those three behave."
Erza had no problem taking on such a mission; it was like a high-level player taking newbies to clear a low-level quest.
As long as they didn't break the map and fought with their bare hands.
"That's the hard part..." Lucy was dejected, "I'll try my best."
"Sorry, we're counting on you, Guild." Erza remembered the Guild Master's request to them.
Rod waved his hand, "It's fine, next time I'll trouble you when Mira and I go out."
"No problem!" Erza thought for a moment and suddenly said, "Why don't we form a fixed team too, just like Mira and Rod?"
Natsu and Gray looked at each other with disdain, "Form a team with this guy?"
Lucy clapped her hands, "Forming a team is great, but I don't think we can be like Miss Mira and Mr. Rod."
"It's because they're a couple, and we're five."
"It's not that reason!"
Erza said, "It's okay, as long as we trust and rely on each other, that's enough."
"Erza, Natsu, Gray, plus Lucy and Happy, I think this combination is great, right?" Mira was proud of her foresight.
"I think the Guild Master will have a headache." Rod felt for the old man, so he added, "You guys remember to be a little more restrained, preferably fight outside the city, and don't cause trouble."
"Don't worry!"
Not at all reassured.
Half an hour after they left, Natsu was feeling unwell, leaning against the carriage window, "Erza, why didn't you invite Rod..."
Lucy gently patted his back, "Because Rod and Mira are a team."
A couple team, slightly envy-inducing.
Speaking of Alzack and Bisca, they seemed to be a couple too, but Bisca's confession was rejected? A bit of a pity.
Gray asked, "Don't you like borrowing crabs from Rod?"
Happy replied for Natsu, "Because we forgot this time."
Just like how people who get carsick sometimes forget to take motion sickness medicine or forget to wear motion sickness patches, Natsu was even more forgetful, often forgetting that he gets carsick.
"... Serves you right."
...
"Are you that worried?
"Mila extended her hand in front of Rod, who caught it and intertwined their fingers, forming a 'sandwich' with their hands."
"I was thinking about how much funding the Guild Master could bring back and if it would be enough for compensation," Rod said.
Mila placed her other hand on top, "You should have a little faith in them sometimes."
Rod moved his lower hand to the top, "I have too much faith in them."
Mila smiled and did the same, placing her lower hand on top.
The two bored individuals played the 'Cat Claw on Top' game, starting with hand-stacking and moving to hand-slapping.
They reluctantly stopped just before the slapping sounds drew everyone's attention.
"Alright, let's get back to work," Rod stretched, ready to continue.
Mila followed him, "I'll join too."
A beautiful woman in a red dress, with her hair half-tied and smooth, slender arms, carried wood back and forth at the construction site.
The scene was truly captivating.
Despite knowing she was a demon, the contrast was still quite stimulating.
To keep up with Mila, everyone seemed to have learned Elfman's motto, shouting as they worked.
Even Lara, who would often check the bulletin board, significantly reduced her frequency and time spent doing so.
Laki wiped the sweat from her forehead and took a moment to observe her busy companions, starting to suspect that this might be the couple's strategy.
Unable to figure it out, she decided to let it go and focus on getting the guild built faster.
But did these people really want to beat Mila?
As evening approached, the sun dipped low in the west.
The day's hard labor was almost over, and the first floor of the guild had barely taken shape, far from completion.
It was time for a well-deserved rest, but the tavern's opening had to be delayed as Mila, Rod, Laki, and the other leaders needed to shower and change.
Otherwise, they would be chased out of the kitchen if they went in dirty.
There was no bathroom at the construction site, so Laki and the others had to return to their dorms.
As for Rod and Mila...
"Come to my house, it's close by," Rod suggested.
Mila gave him a sidelong glance, "If I go to your place, won't I have no clothes to change into?"
"You can wear mine," Rod replied, realizing it was a practical issue he hadn't considered.
He made a mental note to buy a few sets of Mila's clothes in advance, knowing her size.
Mila refused, "No, let's go to my place."
"Okay, then let's go to your house," Rod summoned the River Crab and, before Mila could react, wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her onto the crab's back, "Let's go, we'll be quick."
Mila felt something was amiss.
After the crab had run for a while, she asked, "Why are you coming too?"
Rod hesitated, "It's more convenient to travel together, and it saves time."
Nonsense! Mila abandoned the idea of asking him to go back and instinctively hugged Rod's arm, leaning against him.
However, thinking about her current state, covered in sweat and dust, she decided to get up.
But Rod had already embraced her, and they were all in the same situation, so no one should complain.
Mila's dirty appearance was also quite intriguing.
After staring for a while, one might even want to kiss her.
Rod occasionally questioned if his taste was too heavy and eccentric.
Sharing a bath was out of the question, so Mila pushed Rod into the bathroom and went to wash her hands and face first.
The bathroom was well-equipped with toiletries, and as for clothes, that person always carried a change of clothes, and bathing was quick, so there wasn't much waiting.
If it weren't for the younger brother she was raising, Mila might have wondered if such a quick bath could get her clean.
