Chapter 365: Toywar (11)
Chapter 365 Toywar (11)
As the fierce ambush battle raged on before the Lego House, combat had begun erupting across other regions as well.
The opposing bases of Classic and Novel were only about 500 meters apart. Each faction’s Territory extended outward in a semicircular zone from their headquarters. The distant edges of these zones were largely uninhabited and strategically irrelevant. The critical battleground lay in the olive-shaped intersection formed by the two semicircles, along with the flanking zones.
This frontline was extensive and densely contested, making it nearly impossible to determine clear territorial ownership. Unquestionably, every area along this line was a hotspot for constant skirmishes and friction.
The Nintendo Assault Team’s earlier Operation was merely a routine test probing maneuver—small-scale combat intended to symbolically push into enemy territory, capture stray fighters, or eliminate hidden sentries. Even if they succeeded in advancing into enemy zones and eliminating some adversaries, they would retreat immediately to reinforce other battlefronts.
The Frozen Food Section acted as a balancing point between both Territories and served as a buffer zone between two semi-neutral regions. Firing the first shot of the night here had become a customary ritual for both sides.
However, this Toy war was no ordinary street brawl—it was a massive, drawn-out conflict. Both sides fought with organized multi-front strategies and simultaneous engagements across multiple points. As such, each night saw countless small-scale skirmishes, with at least five major to large-scale confrontations.
Feng Bu Jue and Xiao Tan remained unaware of these details, but Si Yu and Bei Ling did not. In some ways, Feng Bu Jue’s side had an advantage—they only needed to focus on the tasks of ordinary soldiers. Meanwhile, Si Yu and Bei Ling bore the burdens of Commanders. While the boys executed reconnaissance missions, the two girls struggled to direct an unfamiliar, complex, and high-difficulty war.
At this moment, within the supermarket’s sports equipment section, Classic’s “Second Corps” and Novel’s “Soul Drifting Legion” were locked in a large-scale offensive-defensive battle.
The Second Corps primarily consisted of Ultraman warriors, supplemented by numerous other tokusatsu characters—Power Rangers’ combined robots from each season, the B-Series robots (members of Kabutack like Kabutack, Cockroach Bully, Shark Chili, Dragonfly Captain…), the Masked Superman Legion, and even oddities like the Golden Armor Warrior hidden among them.
The Soul Drifting Legion, aside from the captains and vice-captains of the Gotei 13, included the Masked Army, the Espada, and Black Kurosaki Ichigo and his allies (all characters from the manga Bleach).
Though the Second Corps had a size advantage, the Soul Drifting Legion’s unique combat methods (beam attacks, area-of-effect strikes, special techniques, transformation abilities, etc.) allowed them to hold their ground.
“Commander, our situation looks grim…” Deputy Commander Sonya murmured softly to Bei Ling, “Those Egghead forces are too powerful. At this rate, we’ll be crushed eventually.”
Bei Ling sat perched on the edge of a high shelf, hands cupping her cheeks, her brows furrowed in worry.
Seeing her deep in thought, Si Yu spoke up, “Did the surprise attack on the Eastern Front succeed?”
Sonya manipulated a cell phone screen nearly as large as her body for a moment before replying, “This is the live footage from the battlefield. Please watch for yourself…”
“That’s…” Si Yu saw three Evas—part of the surprise force—clashing with three Black Shadows slightly smaller in size. Shockingly, the Evas were being overwhelmed. “Who exactly are the enemy deploying?” she questioned.
“Arare, Atom, and Jumborg Ace,” Bei Ling interrupted before Sonya could answer. She stopped her brooding and joined the conversation, “Troublesome opponents… The Evas won’t win.” She turned her head, “Chief of Staff, order them to retreat.”
“Commander?” Sonya responded.
“Order them to retreat,” Bei Ling commanded. “Also, try contacting the Honor Guard Unit’s four members again. It’s already been nearly ten minutes past the report deadline I specified.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Sonya complied, resuming her work on the screen.
“Any ideas to reverse our current predicament?” Si Yu asked.
“That’s not hard…” Bei Ling replied thoughtfully, “But… I suspect this side-quest task… won’t be completed before dawn. If the two sides’ strengths were drastically mismatched, or if their total forces were smaller, it’d be manageable. However, judging current conditions, this isn’t a war that’ll end quickly. I estimate… even without the enemy commander and Xiao Tan’s assistance, even if the Toys’ strategies and intellects are far beneath mine, it’ll still take about two weeks to end this war decisively.”
“We can’t remain in this scenario that long,” Si Yu stated.
“Right. This is a Non-Sleep Mode kill game mode—it’s clear the game expects us to determine a winner before dawn,” Bei Ling said. “So this side-quest task must be flawed… How can we possibly win this war within the next few hours?”
“Perhaps…” Si Yu speculated, “There’s some artifact or special event within this scenario that could restore us to normal human size?”
“That’s exactly what I considered earlier,” Bei Ling replied, “But there are too many possibilities… Maybe we could find a lawnmower in the supermarket to mow down enemy forces; perhaps some neutral Toy faction has already created something like ‘Toy Atomic Bullets’ or a ‘Toy Virus’; perhaps destroying the enemy leader would make Classic surrender en masse…”
“Come to think…” Si Yu suddenly realized something, “Could the key to solving this mystery relate to ‘that answer’?”
Bei Ling immediately understood Si Yu’s implication. From the moment they entered this scenario, they had smoothly gained trust from all Novel Toys and acquired abundant plot intelligence. But there was one exception—no matter whom they asked, they never received a concrete answer. Even Arthas, the Novel leader, explicitly declared it was a forbidden question.
The question was—what was the true cause of this war?
This should have been common knowledge. Every participant, whether willingly or not, should have some understanding of the reason. Even if their perspectives differed due to opposing stances, it was unthinkable that not a single person, high or low-ranking, could explain the war’s origin.
As players, they struggled to comprehend why these Toys couldn’t articulate their reason for fighting yet still waged this war with absolute conviction.
“Did we misunderstand everything from the start?” Bei Ling mused, “Is what we’re doing… as meaningless as these Toys’ conflict?”
“You’re overthinking,” Si Yu said, gently patting Bei Ling’s head—a childhood habit between them. “Actually… we just need to ignore this side-quest task.” She gazed down with icy eyes at the never-ending battlefield below, “Our ultimate goal is clear—to kill Bu Jue and Xiao Tan.”
“Hmm…” Bei Ling seemed reluctant to abandon the side-quest, puffing her cheeks as she hesitated for a few seconds, “If we really give up on the side-quest, things would indeed simplify… We just need to exploit our resources to locate the commander and Xiao Tan’s positions by any means, then launch an all-out assault without hesitation… Maybe we won’t even need to fight ourselves to win this kill game mode.”
“That won’t be necessary…” Si Yu shook her head with a smile, her eyes flashing with a predatory glint, “Just use the army to locate them. Bu Jue… I’ll handle him personally.”
………
“Achoo!” Feng Bu Jue sneezed, rubbing his nose, “What’s going on… Suddenly felt a chill down my spine. Did some reader use voodoo to curse me again?”
“Hey… Don’t say things like you’re used to it!” Xiao Tan retorted.
At this moment, the two stood apart from the chaos, watching six Classic Npcs fight against the Three Swordsmen.
The Ninja Turtles proved far stronger than expected—these four beings surpassed all norms in attack, defense, speed, skill, and physique. It made sense when considering the heavy turtle shells on their backs. A human would struggle to stand straight under such weight, yet the Turtles moved effortlessly, leaping and maneuvering with remarkable agility. Only someone at Master Wu Tian’s level could compete—combatants with martial power at least thirty times stronger than ordinary humans.
After a minute or two of fighting, Classic gained solid control of the battle, except for the unresolved clash between Sword Heart and Leonardo. Sword Heart relied on speed, his swordsmanship honed to perfection, while Leonardo’s martial prowess was no less impressive. His impervious turtle shell granted him a natural defensive advantage. The two exchanged blows furiously, their duel creating virtual characters springing into existence, illusions shifting endlessly, the clash of steel ringing nonstop…
Even Feng Bu Jue couldn’t fully follow the techniques used. Compared to his previous battles with experts like Shiva and Seven Kill, this Npc duel reached an even higher level.
“Hey… Why did you retreat?” Feng Bu Jue asked, “Jumping in would definitely boost your martial arts proficiency, right?”
“You’re easy to talk,” Xiao Tan replied, “Know how much stamina value I burned just now?”
“You’re too tense,” Feng Bu Jue explained, “Tension increases physical consumption. It’s partly related to Terror Value—most people encountering horror or danger don’t gain a boost; instead, they lose their ability to resist. For example, they might trip on familiar paths, tire easily, feel weak in their limbs, or even lose bladder control.” He paused, “I once posed as a police officer interviewing women robbed on night walks. Some had learned self-defense or carried pepper spray, but when a robber held a knife to their backs, they could only blank out, tremble, and couldn’t even scream for help.”
“Sorry, I couldn’t focus past the ‘posed as a police officer’ part of your story,” Xiao Tan replied with a twitching smile.
“Enough! Gentlemen, let’s call it a day!” Suddenly, a booming voice echoed.
Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh—
A circular shield flew from afar, bouncing off the weapons of Zong Wu, Raphael, and Donatello, scattering the three apart.
Then, the shield deflected and returned.
A Lego Q-version figure dressed in blue, red, and white caught the shield, continuing the interruption, “Keep fighting, and you’ll face the Lego Avengers!”
Behind him, a swarm of dark figures emerged—Lego Wolverine, Lego Thor, Lego Ant-Man, Lego Hawkeye, Lego Wasp, and the hovering Lego Iron Man. Naturally, the figure holding the shield was Lego Captain America.
