Chapter 365: Nick Fury Is Attacked (3000+)
Chapter 365: Nick Fury Is Attacked (3000+)
Grant, the top-tier operative, didn't disappoint. The moment he realized the Jerry in front of him was just an illusion, he immediately redirected his gun to the real Jerry on Coulson's right side.
Unfortunately, just as he was halfway through turning, a blue Magic light struck him, and he froze in place like a statue.
It was Jerry who casually cast a "Petrify" spell at him.
For a non-magic-resistant ordinary person, even the most elite ace agent and combat expert can be immobilized with a single "Petrify."
However, just as Grant was frozen in place, a fierce knee strike sent him flying, followed by a heavy slap as he hit the ground.
Mel delivered the knee strike, and Skye slapped him.
The entire Coulson team, except for Jerry, who didn't know Grant well, was deeply hurt and furious about Grant's betrayal.
But the most affected were undoubtedly Mel and Skye.
Mel had once been in a bed-sharing relationship with Grant, and although the physical need far outweighed the emotional connection, there was still some affection.
Skye, on the other hand, had Grant as her supervising agent. Many of her agent skills, including combat techniques, were taught to her by Grant, and she had secretly harbored feelings for him.
"Take them down!"
Seeing Grant captured instantly, Garrett panicked. He immediately gave the attack order to all the Centipede Warriors and turned to run toward a door at the other end of the warehouse.
He knew the Centipede Warriors wouldn't stand a chance against the Witch, but if they could delay things long enough for him to escape into the base, he might still have a chance to get away using other means of transportation.
After all, the quantum device was still operational, preventing the enemy from apparating.
"Lightning Bolt!"
Jerry sneered and unleashed a wide-area Magic attack without hesitation.
The clear sky outside the open warehouse roof suddenly darkened with a cloud, and lightning bolts struck down, hitting each Centipede Warrior preparing to attack with deadly precision.
The Centipede Warriors, crafted by Garrett with countless hours, effort, and money, using all the available data S.H.I.E.L.D. could gather, were reduced to charred remains in a single lightning bolt spell, failing to delay anything.
This display of power made everyone in Coulson's team realize once again just how powerful Jerry and Magic were.
"Phantom Shift!"
After eliminating all the Centipede Warriors, Jerry used a Phantom Shift spell to instantly appear in front of Garrett, blocking his path.
"Sorry, pal, this road is closed!"
"How can you still—"
Seeing the Witch suddenly appear before him, Garrett was stunned. Had the quantum device stopped working?
Jerry cut him off:
"Oh, you mean the 'apparition' ability? Sorry, my Magic isn't so easily hindered."
He didn't know what high-tech device the other side used to disrupt the Spatial structure, causing his spatial magic to fail. If it were a wizard who only knew how to cast spells without understanding the principles behind Magic, they would have been stumped.
But as a Witch who was highly proficient in the principles of spatial magic, such a minor issue was no problem. After adapting to the spatial environment and making the necessary adjustments to his Magic, he could easily overcome it.
Why couldn't Phantom Shift be used inside Hogwarts Castle?
The castle had a powerful anti-Phantom Shift spell, a specialized spell that altered the Spatial structure to counter the specific characteristics of Phantom Shift's spatial movement.
Its effect was similar to how Garrett used the quantum device to interfere.
However, house-elves and Dumbledore, who borrowed the power of the Phoenix, could still perform spatial apparition within the castle.
This was because the house-elves' apparition Magic, though similar in principle, had unique differences. Dumbledore's Phantom Shift, after borrowing the Phoenix's power, also became distinct from the original.
Both methods of apparition fell outside the range of the anti-Phantom Shift spell and remained unrestricted.
Jerry used a similar principle to bypass the quantum device's interference, but with his current expertise in spatial magic, the process was even smoother.
Likewise, when he returned to Hogwarts, the anti-Phantom Shift spell in the castle would no longer affect him.
Simply using power without understanding the principles means you can never fully master it, whether it's technology, abilities, or Magic.
A skilled marksman is indeed impressive, but a marksman who understands the mechanics of firearms and can continuously modify and upgrade them to adapt to various situations is the most formidable.
"John Garrett, you're finished!"
At this moment, Coulson, gun in hand, joined Jerry by John Garrett's side and delivered a fierce punch to his face.
Garrett didn't resist, pulling out the gun from his waist and dropping it on the ground. He then wiped the blood from his nose and slowly squatted down, presenting an air of resignation.
He knew that with Witch here, he had no chance of escaping.
However, as long as he wasn't killed on the spot, there was still a chance. Even if he was taken back to S.H.I.E.L.D., it wouldn't be a major issue.
Half an hour later, the Airbus, under Melinda May's control, landed at the warehouse airfield.
Garrett, Grant, and all the guards from the Centipede base, as well as the scientists like Dr. Hansen who had been kidnapped, were all loaded onto the Airbus.
As the former S.H.I.E.L.D. airborne command center, the Airbus could accommodate over two hundred people, and since there were only a hundred or so survivors from the Centipede base, there was no worry about overloading.
"Jerry, could you use Magic to send me and this traitor back to the Triskelion first?"
In the Airbus hall, Coulson, holding the bruised and bloodied Garrett, asked Jerry.
Jerry looked at Coulson with a slightly surprised expression:
"Of course, no problem. It's not much trouble, but did you get any useful information from him? Why are you in such a hurry?"
The Centipede organization had been dismantled, and the leader, Centipede himself, had been captured. Coulson had more than fulfilled his part of the deal.
However, Coulson's current demeanor suggested there was more to come.
Coulson sighed:
"This guy is an interrogation expert. If he doesn't want to talk, it's very hard to get useful information from him. But do you remember the Baron Wolfgang von Strucker he mentioned?"
"Right, you haven't told me who this baron is."
When Coulson had heard that name, his expression had changed dramatically, but then Grant's attack had interrupted him.
Coulson explained with a serious look:
"Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, also known as Strucker, was born in the late 19th century in Strucker Castle, Bavaria, Germany. He was a key member of Hydra during World War II.
According to S.H.I.E.L.D. records, he died during World War II."
"But now, not only is he not dead, but he's also connected to Centipede. This is interesting. I want to see what's going on."
Hearing this, Jerry immediately understood Coulson's concern. He turned to Garrett and cast Legilimency directly.
"Huh, I can't see anything!"
Through Legilimency, he found that Garrett's mind was not showing any significant activity. It was just a mechanical repetition of a few words flashing continuously.
As a master interrogator, Garrett had taken precautions after learning from Grant that Witch had the ability to read minds through her eyes.
Like receiving hypnosis training, Garrett was now self-hypnotizing, forcing important memories deep into his mind, making it impossible for Jerry to read them.
He knew that if Jerry found out all the information in his head, he would never be able to turn things around.
"Since Legilimency won't work, let's use a potion!"
Jerry didn't hesitate. He hadn't spent much time deeply researching Legilimency, so it wasn't surprising that Garrett could resist it with a special method.
He immediately reached for the Veritaserum.
While Garrett could resist Legilimency through self-hypnosis because of his training, his body, being that of an ordinary person, could not resist the effects of Veritaserum.
"Jerry, let's go to headquarters first and talk to the director. I think the director would want to hear this information firsthand."
Seeing Jerry take out the Veritaserum he had mentioned earlier, Coulson immediately suggested.
Jerry thought about it and agreed, putting the Veritaserum away for the moment.
However, just as he was about to open a portal, his Magic Mirror suddenly emitted a wave, indicating someone was urgently contacting him.
"Captain Rogers is contacting me. That's rare!"
Seeing that it was the Magic Mirror given to Captain America after the New York battle dinner, Jerry's face showed a hint of surprise.
This was the first time Captain America had used the Magic Mirror to contact him.
"J, Nick Fury has been attacked and is in critical condition. We need your help!"
As soon as the Magic Mirror connected, Captain America's voice, tinged with urgency, came through.
Before Jerry could respond, Coulson, standing nearby, had already moved closer, tense:
"Captain Rogers, Director Fury has been attacked and is in critical condition. What happened?"
"Coulson? I thought you were—"
Captain America's face showed surprise when he saw Coulson in the Magic Mirror. He was unaware of Coulson's resurrection.
"I think it's better if we meet in person."
Jerry used the Magic Mirror to locate and drew a portal.
