Chapter 365: Lanchi Returns to His Imperial Capital, Helrom
Chapter 365: Lanchi Returns to His Imperial Capital, Helrom
This time, Lanchi and the young lady of the Milford Earl's family naturally no longer paid attention to each other, only briefly exchanging glances.
Lanchi was certain that the young lady of the count's family had seen him, but it was clear that she was wary of the identity of the Son of Obliteration, her eyes darting away slightly.
Lanchi sighed and smiled.
He and the two students might meet again at the Proteros Royal Magic Academy in the imperial capital of Helrom, but by then, he probably wouldn't scare them anymore.
Although there hadn't been much interaction before, the unfortunate and unlucky appearance of the young lady of the count's family always gave Lanchi a sense of deja vu.
On many occasions when he saw Shubelian, either someone wanted to kill her, or someone was on their way to kill her.
But with this count's daughter, Lanchi couldn't sense the presence of the Great Lover, and her appearance was completely different from the disguise Talia had given Shubelian before they left.
Perhaps he was just thinking too much.
But come to think of it, if Shubelian wanted to disguise herself as a young lady of a count's family to infiltrate the Proteros Empire, she would probably change her face, but she would need a card maker proficient in Demon Magic to remake the card for her 'Transformation: Human' spell. And as for the 'Great Lover' card, which didn't belong to Shubelian and couldn't be stored in her soul space, it would need to be sealed and disguised as another object to pass through the security checks of the Proteros Empire's Box Mountain Province.
Sid's hand sneaked up and poked Lanchi, interrupting his train of thought.
Lanchi turned to his side, surprised and confused.
"Why were you staring at that girl for so long?"
It seemed that because Lanchi had disguised himself as the Son of Obliteration, Sid particularly disliked this new look and didn't hold back, showing no mercy.
"Was I?"
"Look, there were two girls on the platform just now, and your question wasn't 'which girl?' first."
"......"
Lanchi was speechless.
But he soon smiled wryly,
"It reminded me of an old friend, but it's probably not that much of a coincidence."
He replied calmly.
On the other side.
On the empty platform in front of her, Shubelian watched as the train on the opposite track began to move.
She had just accidentally seen a dangerous person!
And with that, she also realized that the Son of Obliteration was gone.
But in that moment, she had seen the faint smile on his face, that calm and steady demeanor as if good luck would always surround him, giving her a strange sense of deja vu.
"It... can't be, right...?"
Shubelian murmured as she watched the departing train.
She dared not believe this overly surreal and absurd situation. No matter how she thought about it, it couldn't possibly be that Lanchi had taken the place of the Son of Obliteration and then helped her at this junction.
But.
For a moment, she didn't know whether to trust logic or her instincts...
Shubelian stood quietly on the platform, her skirt swaying gently in the breeze. The wind blew past her, silently ruffling her silky hair, and she gently touched the strands that the wind had lifted.
The train whistled as it left her line of sight, carrying with it billowing clouds of steam and fading sounds, heading towards the distant end of the line.
If it was him, they would surely meet again in Helrom.
The two figures, growing farther apart on the train and on the platform, each thought to themselves.
......
......
The next day.
Central Proteros Empire, Imperial Capital Helrom.
As the afternoon sun of spring shone obliquely on the rails, the magic-powered train slowly came to a stop at the Helrom South Station.
Lanchi and Sigrid retrieved their luggage from the cargo hold and emerged from the crowd in the concourse, passing through the tightly guarded checkpoint.
Their hurried footsteps carried them through the bustling crowds of Helrom in the late afternoon.
As they exited the station, a burst of fragrant air greeted them, carrying the scent of spring more prominently than the colder northern regions.
The vibrant flora and ancient, towering architecture on both sides of the street interwove a landscape that connected fantasy with reality.
"There's always a surreal feel to Helrom; I must admit, it's quite a pleasant place to live," Lanchi remarked, dragging his luggage with one hand and holding a cup of afternoon tea in the other.
No matter how many times one visited this city, the increasingly exotic architecture that unfolded as you ventured deeper never failed to captivate, offering sights unseen in any painting.
"You should consider a career in city planning; perhaps you could make it even better."
Sigrid chatted casually with Lanchi as they walked.
The pair had transferred to another train midway through their journey, taking the opportunity to change their appearances as well.
Amidst the golden-orange glow reflecting off the skyscrapers, floating gardens burst with blooming flowers, a kaleidoscope of colors. As they strolled beneath, they could hear the songs of the plants in the aerial gardens and see the faint glow of starlight bodies, adding a leisurely ambiance to the afternoon.
Cat Boss remained hidden in Lanchi's shadow, silent and observing. It had listened to the non-stop chatter between these two individuals throughout the entire trip.
Previously, when Tata mentioned that she and Lanchi barely spoke a word to each other during their journey from South Van Tina to the royal capital of Yikelite, it seemed hard to believe.
Now, as Cat Boss reflected on Tata's interactions with Lanchi and compared them to the dynamic between Lanchi and Sid, a thought emerged: Could it truly be Tata's fault?
"After we rest at the school for a while, I need to head to the Helrom Broadcasting Corporation," Lanchi informed Sigrid.
The interview was scheduled for tonight, and he needed to arrive at the headquarters of the Helrom Broadcasting Company ahead of time.
It was still early, but soon, he would have to leave Sigrid at the Proteros Royal Magic Academy.
"No problem. Just drop me off with Gloria," Sigrid nodded.
"Is she alright?" Lanchi asked after a moment's thought, recalling the name.
He remembered seeing someone by that name, a direct subordinate of Sigrid, during one of Professor Cid's history lectures. She had seemed rather bored and had come to observe him.
However, along their journey, Lanchi had helped the Bishop of Annihilation test the loyalty of his followers, and the results had been less than reassuring, leaving him feeling that the Bishop had a tough road ahead.
Now, he couldn't help but worry if loyalty would falter in the face of true temptation.
"Don't worry, she's practically my foster child. I know her inside out," Sigrid assured him.
Gloria had been her most trusted subordinate during their time posing as students at the Proteros Royal Magic Academy, often hosting Sigrid during her stay. As a powerful student in her third year, ranked tenth in her grade, she had been granted a private mansion on campus. Later, when Lanchi thoroughly investigated potential followers of the Resurrection Sect within the school, he had tacitly allowed Gloria to remain due to her allegiance to Sigrid.
But Lanchi fell silent, deep in contemplation, causing Sigrid to turn and offer further reassurance about Gloria's reliability.
However, she caught the confused look on Lanchi's face, as if he were trying to decide if she was in her late twenties or early thirties.
This exasperated Sigrid, and she quickened her pace, moving ahead without another word to Lanchi.
