Chapter 365: Damaged Time Turner
Chapter 365: Damaged Time Turner
Ivan's attention was immediately drawn to the notification. Since it appeared at this moment, it was likely related to his recent time travel, so he opened the System panel to check.
[Legendary Title: Ouroboros
Legendary Event: You used the power of the Time Turner to travel back in time, filling in the gaps in history and guiding the outcome to the desired direction. Although the process is known by few, it still deserves a reward.
Legendary Degree: 1
Special Reward: Stabilize Temporal Node (Already Distributed)
Note: Are you playing with time, or is time playing with you?]
"Ouroboros?" Ivan muttered to himself, looking at the Legendary Title.
The Ouroboros refers to a snake that eats its own tail, using itself as sustenance to achieve an eternal existence. It is a fantastical creature or state, often symbolizing time and the universe, representing an infinite cycle.
Using this to describe his experiences over the past few days was quite fitting.
If the day he returned home from school last year was one point in time, and the moment he used the Time Turner was another, the two were indeed in a constant loop.
After all, without his future self traveling back three months to set up the scene, he wouldn't have seen "Aisha" die, and then obtained the Time Turner to plan and return three months in the past to ensure his past self would see Aisha's "death" and figure out how to get the Time Turner and set up the scene.
Just thinking about it gave Ivan a headache. He immediately decided that he needed to be much more cautious when using the Time Turner in the future, preferably avoiding such complications that only caused him unnecessary trouble.
As the Note said, it was more like he had been toyed with by the power of time rather than playing with it.
Ivan shook his head, sighed, and then shifted his gaze to the special reward granted by the Legendary Title.
He had never received a System reward when obtaining a Legendary Title before, so this was clearly an exception.
Stabilize Temporal Node?
Ivan pondered for a moment. The System provided no explanation, but from the name alone, he could guess some things. He had stayed for two months this time, which was likely related to the System.
Otherwise, it wouldn't have been such a coincidence that he was kicked back to the original timeline right after bringing back the Thestral.
Clearly, he had completed what he needed to do, so there was no longer any reason to stay. Hermione, on the other hand, remained because she still had unfinished business.
"Sir, is something wrong?"
Ivan's prolonged daze and changing expressions caught Dobby's attention, and he asked, puzzled.
"Hm? Nothing, just thinking about some things." Ivan quickly snapped out of his thoughts and replied, then dismissed Dobby to go to bed early.
After Dobby left, Ivan took out the Marauder's Map and checked it. As he had expected, Hermione's name reappeared in Hogwarts Castle, near an empty classroom, standing still.
Ivan found the nearest secret passage and made his way over. He was eager to know what had happened after he was kicked back to the original time point in the Forbidden Forest and how Hermione had managed to escape the Dementors.
Emerging from the Backdoor, Ivan quickly saw a young witch standing in front of the classroom, her face filled with worry.
"Hermione!" Ivan greeted her.
"Ivan?!" Hermione was startled, instinctively hiding her right hand behind her back, her expression somewhat panicked.
"Yes, you're from the normal time, right?" Ivan hesitated, feeling that Hermione's reaction was a bit off.
After the previous mix-up, Ivan had become suspicious, wondering if the young witch in front of him might have come from another time.
"Uh-huh!" Hermione nodded gloomily.
"What's wrong? Did something happen earlier?" Ivan asked, his concern evident.
"Well, itit cracked!" Hermione pursed her lips and stammered, then brought her right hand from behind her back and opened it.
Ivan clearly saw a thin, long golden chain in Hermione's pale palm, with a small golden hourglass hanging from it.
Compared to before, the hourglass now had many fine cracks, and although the fine sand inside hadn't leaked out, it looked like it could explode at any moment.
"When did it get damaged?" Ivan furrowed his brow, realizing the severity of the situation.
"Just now!" Hermione pursed her lips, feeling quite frustrated. She blamed herself for the damage.
After the time limit had been reached and she returned to the normal timeline, the Time Turner was still intact. However, she had suddenly remembered that she needed to send herself a Note and used it again, going back a few days.
So Hermione felt that if she hadn't exceeded the Time Turner's capacity, it wouldn't have broken.
"What should we do now? Do you have a way to fix it?" Hermione looked at Ivan anxiously, her eyes filled with hope.
Ivan thought for a moment, took the Time Turner from Hermione, and opened the System's Magic Items section to check its status.
Magic Item]: [[Time Turner
Magic Power: Weak (Once Powerful)
Special Status: Damaged
Effect: Each turn of the dial will reverse time by one hour, with the risk increasing each time (Unusable)
Description: This is a delicate magical artifact with the powerful ability to influence time, but due to repeated high-intensity use, it has exceeded its limits.
Note: It feels like it has had enough, so it cracked!]
Noticing the "Damaged" status, Ivan felt a headache coming on. He read the Description and thought about the special reward from the Legendary Title, suspecting that the System was behind this.
The Time Turner's inherent power clearly couldn't have sustained their prolonged stay in that timeline. It was only the influence of the System that had allowed them to extend their time by a few months.
Now that the legendary event was complete and the System's influence had disappeared, the Time Turner couldn't handle the strain and broke!
"What's the verdict? Can you fix it?" Hermione looked at Ivan with trepidation.
"No, it's completely broken, and I don't have any way to fix it", Ivan shook his head helplessly. When he first got the Time Turner, he had considered studying it.
However, the power of time was too profound, and he had no idea where to start, let alone how to repair it.
