Chapter 365: A Perfect Match
Chapter 365: A Perfect Match
"Weren’t the beasts supposed to be restless?"
At the Horse Herd Plains, when Kuro arrived, the once-frantic beasts were now docilely grazing. Pointing at the serene scene of "grass swaying in the wind, revealing cattle and sheep", he turned to Fen Ni beside him.
In the end, King Alexander Francis couldn’t resist Kuro’s demands and bitterly let them leave to rescue his fiancée.
Fen Ni followed too—she needed to check on her bottles and jars. That earlier shockwave had toppled plenty of things.
Along the way, Lida finally pressed Fen Ni for answers.
Turns out, this woman wasn’t really a "witch" at all. Locally, any woman who crafted herbal medicine was labeled a "witch", and they weren’t allowed to treat people within the Twin-Horse Kingdom. It was a tradition.
Though the restrictions weren’t absolute—after all, it wasn’t legally enforced, just a long-standing custom. Those desperate enough would still seek them out for treatment.
Other than that, Fen Ni didn’t possess any of the classic "witch" skills. Transformations? Curses? Safety first—she didn’t know any of that.
She was simply a woman who made herbal remedies.
"Huh? You’re asking why I stay here as a ‘witch’ instead of sailing the seas? Well… I guess I just don’t feel ready. If my own people can’t accept me, rushing out might get someone killed. I’d feel awful if that happened. Maybe once I’m stronger."
That was Fen Ni’s answer.
It confirmed to everyone that "witches" were a myth.
Klah seemed vaguely disappointed by this.
Now, facing Kuro’s question, Fen Ni approached a ram. The ram, seeing her, didn’t flinch. It raised its head, bleated "meh", and resumed grazing.
"Ah, I see, I see. You all don’t know either."
Fen Ni patted the ram’s head and nodded. "Don’t worry. I’ll heal you."
"You can understand animal speech?" Kuro asked curiously.
"Nope. Can’t understand a word."
Fen Ni shook her head. "But I’ve lived here a long time. The animals trust me. Some even drag their injuries to my place. After years like that, I’ve learned their meanings."
"These beasts know they’re restless sometimes. They feel it too, but they can’t control it. It’s pitiful."
"Is that so?"
Kuro glanced at the animals, then nodded slightly. "Then do your best."
"Mr. Kuro", Klah pointed toward a direction. "The Lion Ape isn’t here. Its trail leads that way."
"Oh, no rush. Let’s save the person first." Kuro nodded and led the way.
The group proceeded into the cave and quickly reached the hidden chamber in the tunnel.
Inside the secret chamber, a lone woman in black robes sat by herself, her expression dazed.
"Kai Si Lin!" Fen Ni called.
"Fen Ni!"
The dazed woman turned, spotting Fen Ni, her face lighting up. She stood, revealing her full figure.
As Donald had described, her build was… generously curved.
Her face resembled a steamed bun, her eyes like the pleats on it, squinted into a slit. Her nose looked like a clove of garlic—poorly grown at that—and her mouth stretched wide, like a gaping maw. Kuro couldn’t help but imagine her opening it wide enough to swallow Lida whole.
When she ran, the quivering of her ample body created visible shockwaves in the chamber.
"Fen Ni, thank goodness you’re safe!" Kai Si Lin grabbed Fen Ni’s shoulders, shaking her. "I was so worried! I thought the thieves had captured you too!"
The word "too" was telling. At least it confirmed something for Kuro—that she’d witnessed his maid being seized. As for why she’d been spared…
Well. Everyone understood.
"Stop, stop shaking me! I’m dizzy!" Fen Ni grabbed Kai Si Lin’s hands, halting the motion. "I’m fine. They weren’t thieves—they were Navy! They were sent by the King to rescue you. They just grabbed the wrong person. It was a misunderstanding."
"Navy?"
Kai Si Lin turned to look, realization dawning. "So it was Navy! I was too flustered earlier to see. Got it. His Majesty sent you to save me? Then you’ve met the King too?"
She asked eagerly, "Is the King handsome? All muscular and manly?"
Really? Was this the time to obsess over that?
Aren’t you worried about your own maid?
We’re Navy, for Justice’s sake.
Kuro clicked his tongue. "F*ing family."
"What did you say?" Kai Si Lin turned to him.
"Nothing. Just thinking… you two suit each other." Kuro lifted his gaze, pointedly not looking at her.
"Very manly!"
Donald stepped forward. "Extremely manly! Rest assured, Miss Kai Si Lin!"
"Ha!"
Lida turned her head, barely suppressing a snort of laughter.
Manly indeed? A woman like her—unless they’d shared countless trials together, their marriage would’ve been arranged on first meeting. In that case, yeah, the King’s got manliness.
"Why are you laughing?" Kai Si Lin narrowed her eyes.
"Huh? Me? I was just remembering something happy." Lida turned back, feigning innocence.
"Oh? Are you happy because I was rescued? Makes sense. I am the daughter of a great merchant, and so beautiful! His Majesty sent you to save me, and you succeeded. That’s reason enough to be happy." Kai Si Lin nodded solemnly.
This woman… has zero self-awareness?
Lida pursed her lips, her urge to laugh fading as she glanced at Fen Ni. Her eyes seemed to ask, This is the kind and gentle one you described?
"By the way, you didn’t answer my question yet! Even if he’s manly, is he handsome? Muscular?"
Kai Si Lin pressed on.
This time, no one answered.
"Fen Ni, you tell me." Kai Si Lin turned to her.
"Eh?"
Fen Ni hesitated, her face twisting awkwardly. "Probably… very handsome."
If he’s young, she mentally added.
"What do you mean probably? Fen Ni, your sense of aesthetics needs work. Sure, you’re not as pretty as me, but you should improve your taste! You are my officer’s friend, after all. Don’t worry—I’ll raise your aesthetic sense to match mine!"
Kai Si Lin declared, "At first, I was annoyed about this alliance marriage with the royal family. An ordinary royal wouldn’t be good enough for me—I’m too beautiful! I had so many handsome men chasing me before! But if it’s the King, we’d match. If he’s ugly, though… he’d be unworthy of me!"
All those handsome men chasing you… was it really for your looks?
Does she have no self-awareness at all?
