Chapter 364: Even a Dinosaur, No, Even a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
Chapter 364: Even a Dinosaur, No, Even a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
“No, my proposal isn’t about that Lion Ape thing. Who cares about that? I’ve never even seen one.”
King Alexander Francis interrupted Klah’s train of thought, turning to the witch. “Excuse me, miss, but may I ask your name? It feels rude to keep calling you ‘witch’ all the time.”
“Me? I’m Fen Ni.” The witch replied obediently.
“Then, Miss Fen Ni,”
King Alexander Francis stepped forward, gazing at her passionately. “Will you marry me and become my queen? Oh, I can hardly wait! I’ve already prepared a wedding gown for you—I want to dress you in it myself!”
“Absolutely not!”
Before Fen Ni could even open her mouth, another voice cut in first.
Donald stood up straight, stepping between King Alexander Francis and Fen Ni with a serious expression. He addressed the king firmly:
“You already have a fiancée. Since you’ve waited so long for her, waiting a little longer won’t hurt. As your Navy, we’ll definitely save your true fiancée! Only by fulfilling your promise to marry her can you truly honor your word. I believe that with your real wife, you’ll even have strong, healthy children!”
“Actually, that marriage was arranged by my father. And even though I’m not married yet, I already have kids—plenty of bastards.”
King Alexander Francis waved a hand dismissively. “I’ve already said it—marrying Miss Fen Ni is all I want. Everything else can wait. If you’re wondering why, wasn’t it your fault for not rescuing everyone back then?”
“Come on, Donald. Taking one more person wouldn’t have been that hard.” Sazil chimed in, puzzled.
If it were him, he’d have taken both people—saving the king’s fiancée and capturing the legendary witch. That way, they could’ve brought the fiancée here and earned credit for the witch. Even if the witch didn’t seem like a huge threat, covering all bases was just better strategy.
Truthfully, he’d been standing right beside Donald at the time. Though he said this now, he’d been just as stunned as everyone else back then.
“No, the problem was that woman—she was just too ugly. I assumed she was just another witch and didn’t think much of her.” Donald scratched his head, speaking honestly.
At this, an unusual silence fell over the group.
Kuro: “…”
Lida: “…”
Klah pushed his glasses up, pursed his lips, and struggled to find words.
He’d always thought Kuro’s subordinates were kind of unreliable.
Lida was a money-grubber—back then, he’d even pushed Kuro to hunt down bounties just for a meal.
Kas was a people-problem, doing things that made Kuro’s hair stand on end.
Ju Geng was an ears-problem—no one could ever understand what he was saying.
Given all this, Klah had suspected Donald and Sazil had some hidden flaws too.
They just hadn’t had the chance to show them until now.
Donald, it seemed, was just… painfully honest.
Did he really think he could say that out loud?
Of course, only he, Klah, could be Kuro’s truly trustworthy right-hand man!
Look at Sazil, his direct subordinate. Under Klah’s careful guidance, he hadn’t shown any of those frustrating flaws.
That was proof enough!
If a direct subordinate wasn’t a problem, then the superior—Klah—was naturally flawless too.
“You’re so rude! Why are you commenting on someone’s appearance like that? Catherine is a wonderful person—gentle, kind, and always thinking of others!”
Fen Ni couldn’t hold back any longer.
Donald’s expression turned grave. He turned to face Fen Ni directly, speaking solemnly. “I, Donald, have always been the most polite person. How could I be rude? My master taught me to be both honest and courteous. I’m simply stating my honest impression based on my own perspective!”
“Rest assured, King Alexander Francis!”
Donald continued, addressing the king. “Though I’m a newly appointed Navy, I still have a firm grasp of honor. I will bring your fiancée back safely, so you can marry, have children—everything!”
“My name is Alexander Francis. ‘King Alexander Francis’—what even is that?”
The king replied flatly, then added: “And I don’t want to.”
“This isn’t about what you want or don’t want!”
Donald replied, dead serious. “Even if that woman is ugly—tiny eyes, a huge nose, a face full of pimples, and a mouth so big it looks like she could swallow you whole—that’s still your fiancée! A real man keeps his promises! You made this marriage vow yourself. Even if she were a dinosaur, no—even a Tyrannosaurus Rex—you’d still have to fulfill your duty! That’s what it means to be a man!”
“…”
Perhaps the wind blew through the broken palace window just then, sending a chill through the silent group.
Alexander Francis twitched his lips, glancing at Donald. “Then why don’t you marry her?”
“No, I can’t.” Donald shook his head firmly.
“Is he being honest or sarcastic?”
Lida poked Kuro lightly, whispering.
“I don’t know.”
Kuro replied seriously. “And stop poking me. It’s hard enough keeping a straight face.”
He couldn’t exactly burst out laughing in front of a future king—he’d been offered meals and even a dance performance, after all. That hospitality had to be respected.
“I’m about to become king—King, do you understand?!”
Alexander Francis clenched his teeth, furious. “I’ve waited so long, you know that? I’ve finally become king, and at my age—how many more years do I have left? Can’t I at least marry someone beautiful? To spend my remaining days gazing at someone lovely, dying peacefully, and passing the throne to a child who inherits their mother’s beauty? Can’t I, as king, even have this tiny wish? I don’t care—I’m marrying Miss Fen Ni!”
“Um, sorry, but you’re just too old for me…” Fen Ni raised her hand weakly.
King Alexander Francis: “…”
“Then let’s just say that fiancée got killed by the witch. I’ll find someone else. A little slow development in the country won’t kill anyone—people can handle it.” King Alexander Francis said resolutely.
“I’ll bring her back!”
Donald repeated, as if he hadn’t heard the king’s words at all. He gripped his cross-shaped spear, turning to Kuro. “Commander Kuro, as Navy members, we can’t forget our duties!”
“Stop lecturing me just because you’re new. I know what to do.”
Kuro pulled out a cigar, lit it, and blew out a plume of smoke. “Who you marry is your problem, King Alexander Francis. But as Navy, there are things we can’t ignore. One innocent life is worth saving.”
“My name is Alexander Francis.”
The king corrected him. “And you really won’t let this go? Can’t you just do me a favor and pretend you didn’t see anything? I’ll file a complaint, Kuro Commander. Once I ascend the throne, I swear I’ll make your life hell.”
“Klah, lead the way. I want to see exactly what this ‘Observation Haki’-resistant existence is.” Kuro said.
“Understood!” Klah nodded.
If Observation Haki couldn’t sense it, but the Lion Ape’s blood had been licked, tracking would be possible.
