Chapter 364: A Duel on Wheels?
Chapter 364: A Duel on Wheels?
At 4 a.m. in the morning, the city was engulfed in darkness. The streets were pitch-black, devoid of any light, except for the wandering silhouettes that resembled the walking dead.
Then, a thunderous roar shattered the silence.
It was the sound of motorcycle engines, rumbling like thunder. You Xuan and Yan Xiong rode their bikes, leaving deep marks on the road as they sped through the streets, their tires screaming against the asphalt as they made their way towards the power station.
To be honest, You Xuan hadn't expected that Yan Xiong's "plan" was to simply rev their engines and charge straight into the power station.
This big guy even brought guns for the operation and handed one to You Xuan.
You Xuan was surprised at the time, wondering why he, a licensed Duelist, would need such a thing.
"Although bullets won't take down zombies, they can buy us some time in an emergency," Yan Xiong explained.
So, You Xuan reluctantly took the gun, still unconvinced of its usefulness.
The motorcycles sped through the streets, leaving the incoherent shouts of the zombies in their wake with every acceleration. The two riders weaved through the air like the wind itself.
"Hahaha, eat my dust!" Yan Xiong laughed heartily.
"It seems you're a little too happy a little too soon," You Xuan remarked.
"What?" Yan Xiong was taken aback for a moment before realizing what he was referring to.
The roar of a third engine approached from behind, growing louder and closer.
Piercing lights shot out from the corner of the street behind them, slicing through the darkness like a sharp sword. Another motorcycle emerged from the crowd of zombies, quickly catching up and almost riding alongside them.
"What the hell!?" Yan Xiong yelled, "Are zombies learning how to ride motorcycles now!?"
What about high-quality, high-level zombies? You Xuan thought to himself, but then again, they could already play cards, so it wasn't that surprising that they could ride motorcycles. However, upon looking back, he couldn't be sure if this person was indeed a zombie. Dressed in black spandex and wearing a helmet, the rider's face was hidden behind dark tinted goggles, making it impossible to identify them.
Then, the rider seemed to speak.
"Do you think you can just ride away?"
No, it wasn't exactly speaking. It was more like the voice resonated directly in their minds. A deep, rumbling voice, like thunder, echoed in their ears.
Then, the rider's body erupted with darkness, as thick as ink.
Yes, it was pure darkness, yet it seemed to have a physical form. It writhed and twisted in the air, and within that black mass, a demonic, sinister smile seemed to materialize.
"What the hell is this thing!?" Yan Xiong exclaimed in shock.
He gripped the handlebars tightly and twisted the throttle, accelerating to full speed while simultaneously drawing his gun and shooting behind him.
But it was to no avail. The bullets passed through the chaotic mass of darkness as if they had been shot into water, failing to create even a single splash.
From the darkness, twisted demonic claws reached out towards them.
"Silence," You Xuan uttered, and a white magic array unfolded. The pitch-black claws collided with the array and were instantly shredded into fragments.
Silent Magician emerged from the array, brandishing a staff and engaging the black mass in a fierce struggle.
"A Duelist who controls spirits," the black-clad rider behind them seemed surprised for a moment, but then let out a cold laugh with that deep voice.
"Interesting. It's quite a rarity to find such unique prey at this stage. Hehe."
As he spoke, the darkness in the air retracted and transformed into the shape of a Dueling Disk on his arm.
"Since that's the case, let's settle this the Duelist way. Come."
Yan Xiong, riding alongside them, was even more astonished. "So, we're dueling while riding motorcycles?"
"Sounds fun. I'm in," You Xuan agreed, activating his own Dueling Disk.
"Duel!" x2
You Xuan: LP 4000
Rider: LP 4000
The three motorcycles rode closely together, performing a stylish drift around the corner and speeding down the main road of the town.
"Then, I'll take the first turn. Draw!"
The black-clad rider drew a card.
"I activate the Continuous Spell Card, 'Pain of the Strong'!"
An image of the Spell Card appeared beside his speeding motorcycle, racing alongside him.
This was probably what was known as early Ride-Dueling. It was literally dueling while riding.
"Pain of the Strong decreases the ATK of all monsters on your opponent's field by a number equal to the Level of that monster x100."
The rider hummed strangely in a deep voice.
"The strong have their burdens to bear. The greater the power, the easier it is to be weighed down."
Yan Xiong scoffed, "So, you're saying that the higher the Level of the monster summoned, the more significant the drop in ATK?"
"Hmph."
The black-clad rider didn't say more. He drew another card and slapped it onto his Duel Disk.
"I Normal Summon 'White Tiger King'!"
A white-furred tiger emerged from the card's image, with a robust and muscular body, sleek armor, and sharp fangs.
White Tiger King: ATK 1700
However, the summoned monster had to keep up with the speeding motorcycle, running alongside it, which looked rather strenuous.
"I set two cards. My turn is over."
The two Set Cards appeared on either side of the rider's motorcycle, hovering just a few centimeters above the ground.
"My turn, draw!"
You Xuan glanced at his hand.
"I activate the Spell Card, 'Pot of Greed', drawing two more cards from my Deck. Then, I Normal Summon 'Sea Otter Tree Bear'!"
Sea Otter Tree Bear: ATK 1200
"Hey, you've fallen right into my trap."
The black-clad rider cackled eerily as You Xuan's monster hit the ground.
"Take a look at your monster now!"
The White Tiger King roared, and transparent sound waves rippled across You Xuan's field. The Sea Otter Tree Bear, having just been summoned, couldn't withstand the pressure and exploded into fragments.
"What?!" Yan Xiong exclaimed, "Why did his newly summoned monster...?"
"Hehe, that's the effect of White Tiger King," the rider coldly explained. "As long as this card is on the field, all monsters summoned or Special Summoned by both players with an ATK of 1400 or less are destroyed immediately!"
"I see," Yan Xiong realized, "So, the Sea Otter Tree Bear with an ATK of 1200 was destroyed. That means only monsters with an ATK of 1400 or higher can be played in this duel."
That wasn't too bad. Monsters with an ATK of 1400 or lower were not favored by mainstream duelists unless they had unique abilities. Many duelists might not even have such low-ATK monsters in their decks.
Wait, something wasn't right. Yan Xiong's eyes narrowed as he shifted his gaze to the Spell Card floating beside the rider's motorcycle.
'Pain of the Strong' decreases the ATK of all monsters on the opponent's field by the Level of that monster x100.
Yan Xiong: "!"
In other words, if You Xuan summoned a Level 4 monster, its ATK would be decreased by 400 points due to 'Pain of the Strong', making it unable to exceed an ATK of 1800.
The situation had just become much more challenging.
