Chapter 363: The Cycle of Fate
Chapter 363: The Cycle of Fate
Fuzzy colors and shapes filled the entire space, with everything around changing rapidly.
Ivan’s eyes widened as he urgently wanted to know what had happened in this place after he left, whether Hermione had safely reached Hogwarts Castle, and if the Dementors had caught up to them.
But the speed of the changes around him was too fast. Ivan could only see a brief moment when a large number of dark shadows fell from the sky and scattered.
Occasionally, a few indistinct animals would pass by, but mostly it was the alternating transition between day and night.
After an unknown amount of time, everything finally stabilized, and Ivan regained his ability to move.
Looking up at the sky, it was now dusk. Ivan understood that he had returned to the normal time point. He remembered that he had used the Time Turner in the evening.
"I wonder how Hermione is doing?" Ivan sighed.
The black shadows he had seen earlier, Ivan guessed, were likely Dementors searching for him and Hermione in the Forbidden Forest. He hoped that the young witch had already left by then.
Otherwise, Ivan glanced at the Time Turner in his hand, hesitated for a moment, but decided not to use it.
He decided to go to the castle to check the situation first. If everything went well, Hermione should have returned by now.
Thinking of this, Ivan took out the Marauder's Map and tapped it with his Wand, saying,
"I solemnly swear I am up to no good!"
On the blank parchment, many fine ink lines suddenly appeared, spreading and connecting like spider webs, covering the entire parchment and forming a clear map with names marked all over it.
Peter Pettigrew was sound asleep in the dormitory, Ron and Harry were in the common room, and Dumbledore was safely in his office.
As for Hermione—
Ivan looked around and successfully found the young witch’s name. It seemed she was moving quickly, possibly heading somewhere.
Ivan held the map, calculated Hermione’s trajectory, and quickly walked towards Hogwarts Castle, easily intercepting her in the hallway.
"Hermione!" Ivan called out.
The young witch, who had been rushing around the castle, turned her head sharply at the sound of Ivan’s voice and said angrily while holding a stack of books,
"Finally found you, Ivan! You actually used a Stunning Spell on me, that was really too much!"
Hermione’s angry words made Ivan pause, but noticing the sweat on her forehead and the thick books in her hands, he quickly understood what had happened.
Before Ivan could respond, Hermione pushed the books into his arms. "I found some records in this book, take a look quickly, it should be helpful!"
Ivan glanced down and saw it was the book Secrets of the Darkest Art.
"Thank you, Hermione!" Ivan said gratefully without opening the book.
"Now isn’t the time for that", the young witch shook her head urgently, indicating that Ivan should flip through the book. The content was on page 125!
Ivan flipped through a few pages. Since he had read the content before, he just skimmed through it.
Seeing the numerous cruel Dark Magic experiments described in Secrets of the Darkest Art, Ivan was reminded of a question that had puzzled him but he hadn’t had the chance to ask.
"By the way, Hermione! How did you think to look up this book? You usually never read Dark Magic books, right?"
Hermione hesitated for a moment, then explained that she had found a note on her pillow when she woke up. She then took out a crumpled piece of paper from her robe pocket and unfolded it.
Ivan clearly saw it read: Restricted Section, thirteenth row, ninth shelf, Secrets of the Darkest Art!
Most importantly, Ivan recognized Hermione’s handwriting!
"Do you remember the question you asked me before? What happens when a Potion is used on a deceased Wizard?" Hermione spoke rapidly, then continued to explain,
"I’m not as smart as you, so I read many books and thought for a long time but couldn’t figure it out. But since the Time Turner can go back in time, why can’t the future self tell us the answer?"
"How could that be? You’re much smarter than me, Hermione! Such a good idea, I never even thought of it!" Ivan said, looking at the confident young witch in front of him.
When his Potion research hit a roadblock, he had never considered such a novel approach. As Hermione said, as long as the calculations were correct, the future self could help solve some headaches.
Additionally, Ivan was relieved that Hermione had received the note, which meant her future self had avoided the Dementors’ search and safely returned to the castle.
Flattered by Ivan’s praise, Hermione’s lips curled up slightly, feeling very pleased. She thought her efforts over the past few days had not been in vain. However, she modestly attributed it to her hard studying and a bit of cleverness.
"So, is the content in the book useful?" Hermione asked expectantly.
"Yes, very useful!" Ivan nodded in response.
"I told you I could be helpful! Let’s start the research now", the young witch said confidently.
However, Ivan remained silent, hesitating on how to explain things to Hermione clearly.
Ivan’s silence made Hermione sense something was wrong.
The happy look on her face gradually faded as she suddenly realized that Ivan might have already completed his time travel, and her previous efforts might have been in vain.
"Have you finished what you needed to do?" Hermione pursed her lips, sounding a bit dejected.
"Yes!" Ivan nodded and looked at the dejected Hermione, smiling. "That’s why I wanted to thank you, Hermione! This time, you really helped a lot!"
"You mean..." Hermione’s brown eyes widened, staring blankly at Ivan. She could understand what he meant.
After a long moment, she finally reacted and said anxiously, "But... but I haven’t done anything yet!"
"Then, do you want to go on an adventure? It might be a bit dangerous", Ivan took off the Time Turner from his neck and hung it around Hermione’s neck, asking.
Ivan had realized that if he didn’t send the young witch away now, he would never meet her future self.
Because the time of departure would also be the time of return when the time limit was reached.
