Chapter 363: I Have a Suggestion
Chapter 363: I Have a Suggestion
The moment those words were spoken, an unusual silence fell over the crowd.
King Alexander Francis instinctively recoiled, blinking rapidly as he gave the black-robed woman a thorough once-over.
Her silk-like robe flowed like water, accentuating her shapely figure—lush curves and wide, innocent eyes that made her look anything but threatening.
“A witch?”
After a long stare, the king muttered, “Where’s the witch? Witches aren’t supposed to be young and pretty. Shouldn’t you be old, wrinkled, and terrifying?”
“Oh, nowhere at all!” the woman replied, waving a hand while covering her face coyly. “Your Majesty flatters me! I am a witch, though not quite as dramatic as you described. My grandmother fit that mold perfectly, but she passed away, so I inherited her role.”
“Huh? Witches can inherit their title?” Lida interjected.
“If kings can inherit thrones, why not witches?” the woman shot back.
It sounded logical… yet strangely off.
“Wait,” Sazil raised a hand, “aren’t witches supposed to crave maiden’s blood, cast curses for fun, occasionally feed princesses Poisoned Apples, or turn princes into Frogs?”
“Now that does sound impressive!” The witch’s eyes sparkled with admiration. “Honestly, that kind of witch wouldn’t be half bad!”
“That’s enough! What are we even asking?” Kuro rolled his eyes, stepping forward. “Hey, what exactly are you?”
“I’m not a thing! Well, I mean, I’m a thing, no—wait! I’m a witch! I specialize in herbal medicine.” She fumbled, finally correcting herself.
Everyone exchanged glances. Confirmed: an idiot.
“Are you really a witch?” King Alexander asked skeptically.
She nodded firmly. “Yes! Definitely!”
“Then where’s my fiancée?”
The king turned to Klah, who shifted his gaze to Donald and Sazil.
“To be honest, I thought she was the witch,” Donald scratched his head, gesturing at the woman. “Wait, wasn’t she the one pouring poison into you?”
“No no no!” the witch interrupted, scratching her head sheepishly. “I just clumsily knocked over a bottle. The fumes were so foul I nearly fainted! She was just helping me pick it up!”
The king studied her, then turned to Donald. “Navy Officer Donald, why bring only one person back? Why not both?”
“We ran into a Monster. No time to think,” Donald admitted.
Nodding, the king suddenly grinned. “If this beauty’s a witch, then whoever kidnapped her must be even more stunning, right?”
Silence.
Donald lowered his gaze. Sazil followed suit. Only Ju Geng looked puzzled.
Lida repeated the king’s words for her. Ju Geng’s eyes lit up as she nodded vigorously. “What an honorable King Your Majesty is to honor the agreement!”
“I’m not a king yet!” he snapped, then paused. “Wait… what agreement? And why that tone?!”
Leaning back, he muttered to himself before suddenly addressing the witch. “Miss Witch, I have a proposal.”
“Me?!” She pointed at herself, startled.
“Right. You only make herbal medicine, yes?”
“Yes! That’s all I know how to do!”
“Perfect! Since you did encounter a Monster and failed to rescue her, let’s just assume the kidnapped woman was a witch. So…” He gestured grandly. “This lady shall become my fiancée instead! A simple switch! I won’t mind at all!”
He stroked his mustache dramatically. “Summon the registrar! Now, what’s her name again…?”
“Catherine,” the witch blurted.
“Exactly! From this moment, you’re Catherine!”
He froze. “Wait—how do you know her name?!”
“We were together! Of course I know! She kept saying she came to the Twin-Horse Kingdom to marry into the royal family. So you’re the one!”
The witch pounded her palm. “Don’t worry! She’s safe! That Lion Ape isn’t the type to bother people like that.”
“You know this Monster?” Klah demanded. “You said the fumes from your herbal medicine spread earlier—did you cause those beasts to go berserk?”
“No no no!” She shook her head violently. “I was trying to help them! Lately, they’ve been entering a Raging Period randomly, and the episodes keep getting longer. If this continues, a catastrophe will strike!”
“I dug a Tunnel to study their Habits and develop an Antidote. As for the Lion Ape…” She hesitated. “I only saw it once. One night, it was Dancing on the Grassland—it was beautiful! Who’d expect such a massive Body to move so gracefully?”
“It noticed me, but didn’t attack. Catherine’s safe with it!”
Klah narrowed his eyes. “Why was the king’s fiancée with you?”
“Thieves ambushed her!” the witch explained. “She barely escaped, but they mistook her maid for the real target. Why does everyone keep getting it wrong? Catherine’s so kind!”
Klah adjusted his glasses. “So the witch rumors are actually about Thieves? A diversion to create a Legend and hide their true motives?”
The king shook his head. “No Ransom demands yet.”
“Strange…” Klah mused. “No Ransom… then what’s their goal?”
He didn’t doubt the witch’s story. Sazil and Donald’s reactions confirmed Catherine was an unattractive Dinosaur. Why kidnap her for blood rituals or Youth? Besides, the witch had no idea when they’d arrive. How could she prepare in advance?
Her tale rang true… yet everything felt disjointed.
A Lion Ape that abducts without Ransom. Beasts in a Raging Period. Was there a Correlation?
