Chapter 361: Hermione's Doubt
Chapter 361: Hermione's Doubt
Following Dumbledore's announcement at the feast, people inevitably recalled the Fire Dragon emblem that had appeared on the train, and Kyle once again found himself inundated with visitors.
Early the next morning...
"It really works!" exclaimed a young Gryffindor wizard to his companion in the corridor. "If the Headmaster hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have known there were Dementors at the school gates."
"I don't feel anything, just a slight chill, completely different from on the train... and Potter has one too, I saw it when I was in the common room just now."
The two continued chatting as they made their way to the Great Hall, and the companion was gradually persuaded.
Two galleons was expensive, but if it was truly as amazing as claimed, it might be worth the price.
However, when they arrived at the Great Hall, they found the Hufflepuff table surrounded by people, with a long line stretching all the way to the door.
They had all come to buy the badges.
"I should have bought one on the train," a young witch at the end of the line complained to her friend. "I was there, but I didn't think the Dementors would come to the school."
"Who could have expected it..." her friend sighed.
On the other side, Kyle handed a badge to a young Ravenclaw wizard, while Cedric skillfully collected two galleons and placed them in a bag beside him.
Kyle yawned and tapped the table, summoning a glass of lemonade for himself.
Although he had been woken up early by the commotion, seeing the stream of golden galleons pouring into his pockets made the inconvenience seem trivial.
"It's incredible..." the young wizard who had just received a badge marveled. "It's still warm! The Fire Dragon is truly remarkable!"
Kyle shook his head beside him but remained silent.
This had nothing to do with the Fire Dragon. Last night, he had cast a simple warming charm on all the badges, working through the night.
To save time, he hadn't used a complex alchemy method but had simply 'stuck' the charm onto the badges, much like the layer of pepper on Pepper Imps.
As for the badges sold on the train, Kyle hadn't forgotten about them either. He had sent word that anyone who brought theirs back would receive a 'free upgrade', emphasizing the excellent after-sales service.
Although the 'stuck on' charm didn't last long, it would suffice.
Even so, he had only finished the task at 5 a.m. that morning, and by 6 a.m., someone was already knocking on their dormitory door.
Since they were there to deliver galleons, Kyle couldn't complain, but it meant an early morning for Mikkel and Ryan as well.
By 8 a.m., the 150 badges he had brought back from Romania had all been sold.
...
"That's really the last one," Kyle said, handing out the final badge and lifting the now-empty box to show the disappointed young witch at the front of the line.
"Just wait a few more days," Kyle consoled her. "More will come."
"How long do we have to wait?" she asked.
"I'm not sure," Kyle thought for a moment, giving a conservative estimate. "Probably about a month."
Last night, Raton had feasted on dragon liver and restorative potions before setting off with his letter.
However, the distance from here to Romania was considerable, and it also depended on when Charlie would have time, so a month was the earliest estimate.
After a pleasant breakfast, Kyle, feeling cheerful, was about to head to his first Charms class when someone called out to him from behind.
"They went to the West Tower," Hermione said. "I wanted to ask you something, so I didn't go with them."
"You want to ask me something? About the badges?" Kyle extended his hand. "No problem, hand it over, and I'll cast a warming charm on it for you."
"No, it's not about that."
Hermione shook her head and fiddled with her robe's collar, pulling out a thin, long golden chain with a small, glittering hourglass hanging from it.
"It's about this!"
"A Time-Turner?" Kyle frowned. "Did you sign up for all the classes, too?"
"Yes, so Professor McGonagall helped me apply for this." Hermione nodded. "But she told me that using a Time-Turner might have some adverse effects and asked me to think carefully about it.
So, I wanted to ask for your opinion... You used a Time-Turner last year, didn't you?"
"Why do you say that?" Kyle asked.
"I found out that you signed up for all the classes last year."
Hermione said confidently, "And that time on the eighth floor when you said you came up through the secret passage, that was a lie, too.
There must have been two of you back then, one in the Great Hall and one on the eighth floor."
"That's not wrong."
Kyle smiled, "What do you want to ask?"
"I don't know if I should use it or not." Hermione looked at the Time-Turner in her hand, her face full of conflict. "To detach from the protection of time... is the outcome really as serious as Professor McGonagall said?"
"Serious, but not that serious." Kyle thought for a moment before answering. "In fact, if you only use it within the school and for a period not exceeding a day, the impact is negligible... unless a very powerful wizard specifically targets you."
Kyle's tone was particularly grave as he said the last sentence.
He paused for a moment and then continued, "But that's also unlikely to happen since we're just ordinary students, and those from the past are unlikely to know about us."
"So, that means it's fine?" Hermione asked, her eyes lighting up with hope.
"It's just a very small possibility, not impossible. 100 and 99.9 are two completely different concepts."
Kyle explained, "So, my opinion is the same as Professor McGonagall's. Don't use it; that's the safest option."
"But..." Hermione hesitated, "Can't I really take all the classes?"
"You can, but it's unnecessary." Kyle shook his head. "Some classes aren't that important, and I dropped Divination and Muggle Studies myself."
"But they're interesting."
"That's just your opinion now, and signing up for more classes means your energy will be spread thin, resulting in you learning only a little about everything."
"How about this..."
Kyle checked the time, "We still have some time before class. You can go and find Professor McGonagall and try to use the method I used last year.
When there's a clash with your elective classes, only attend one of them, and after you've attended all the classes once, you can decide whether or not to use the Time-Turner."
