Chapter 360: Reactions from All Sides
Chapter 360: Reactions from All Sides
In the New World, on the country of Wano, a grand feast was about to commence on Onigashima, the Devil's Island. Kaido of the Beasts and the Wano generals, including the formidable Orochi, had already arrived at the island.
"Boss Kaido! We have big news!!"
Just then, a bird-like creature flew swiftly from the sky, penetrating deep into Onigashima. It then transformed into a human form and rushed towards Kaido.
Lying on a recliner and about to indulge in some drinks while awaiting the banquet, Kaido opened his eyes and glared at the intruder. "What's all this ruckus? What's going on?!"
"Boss Kaido... Admiral Sengoku of the Navy Headquarters has been defeated!"
The subordinate's face was etched with shock and tension as he handed Kaido two newspapers.
"Sengoku was defeated?" Kaido glanced at his subordinate but didn't take the newspapers. Instead, he picked up a nearby gourd of alcohol and weighed it in his hand. "It's not surprising that he lost. Who did it? Was it that old man, Whitebeard?"
The subordinate replied with a nervous expression, "No, it wasn't Whitebeard... It was a newcomer by the name of Feng Ye. The Navy calls him the 'Traveler'!"
"A newcomer?" Kaido paused for a moment.
This time, he took the newspapers from his subordinate and began to read carefully.
While he wasn't surprised that Sengoku had been defeated, having fought him several times himself and knowing the admiral's strength, he was aware that only a handful of people in these vast seas could achieve such a feat. And now, a newcomer had emerged victorious over Sengoku! Even Kaido couldn't help but be astonished.
"The Traveler... Feng Ye, huh? He looks rather young. Another formidable player has entered the New World."
If someone merely gained a little fame on the high seas or defeated a few pirates with bounties of hundreds of millions, Kaido wouldn't pay much attention. But defeating Sengoku was an entirely different matter.
This wasn't just some newcomer; it was a monster!
Kaido flipped through the newspapers briefly, then tossed them aside. He took a swig from his gourd, his eyes glinting, and declared, "Excellent! Let them all come to the New World!"
"The age of heroes has arrived, but this world is mine!"
...
Somewhere on the vast ocean, aboard the mighty Moby Dick.
Whitebeard sat with a newspaper in hand, his eyes narrowed slightly as he perused its contents. He grinned, revealing his teeth. "Sengoku... Who would've thought he'd be defeated by a newcomer."
Beside him, the youthful and immortal Marco expressed concern. "For someone so young to defeat Sengoku, he's undoubtedly a monster. If he comes to the New World, he'll pose a significant threat."
"Gurara... Let him come!" Whitebeard tossed the newspaper aside and took a swig from his liquor jar. "All the geniuses, heroes, and monsters of this vast ocean will eventually find their way to the New World. If they want to challenge my position, I'll be waiting right here. I am Whitebeard!"
Whitebeard's domineering and heroic words washed away the worries on Marco's face, replacing them with a trusting smile.
No one could defeat Whitebeard!
While the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, may have initiated this grand age of pirates, the late Roger no longer belonged to this era. This era belonged to their old man, Whitebeard Edward Newgate!
...
On the Red Line, in the holy land of Mariejois, within the highest level of the Pangaea Castle known as the "Realm of Kings," the Five Elders sat in a gloomy atmosphere, their expressions somber.
"Sengoku has been defeated by a criminal..."
"That criminal is also harboring a survivor from Ohara. He may have access to the deciphered historical texts and knowledge of that forbidden history."
The original structure of one admiral and three warlords had now lost one, another had resigned, and the last remaining one had been defeated and severely injured.
The Navy was in tatters.
"Elders..."
Kong's face was grim as he lowered his head and replied, "I misjudged that man's strength. I am willing to take responsibility for this failure."
"Now is not the time to discuss responsibility!"
"How are we going to fill the vacancies in the Navy? Is that fool, Garp, still refusing to become an admiral? And who will take Zefa's place?!"
"If this continues, we may need to start a global recruitment drive!"
The rapid-fire questions from the Five Elders left Kong unable to respond for a moment.
After reprimanding Kong for a short while, the topic returned to Feng Ye. "How should we deal with this 'Traveler'? If Sengoku has been defeated, the only one who can arrest him is Garp."
"No, I suggest we don't allocate more forces for this. It would be a waste of resources to make a big fuss in the first half of the Grand Line. Let's just let him go to the New World, where he will inevitably clash with Whitebeard, Kaido, and others."
"Good."
"Then let's leave it be for now."
The Five Elders discussed the matter briefly and decided to temporarily ignore Feng Ye. After all, he couldn't possibly attack Navy Headquarters or the Holy Land. He wouldn't be causing any significant trouble in the short term.
It would be better to deal with him once he reached the New World and address him along with the other powers there. If he clashed with other forces, there would be an opportunity for mutual destruction.
...
In the first half of the Grand Line, on a certain sea area.
A ship was sailing with the wind, its sails unfurled, and a large group of jellyfish-like creatures beneath its hull, propelling it forward at great speed.
On the deck of the ship, Feng Ye stood holding a newspaper that Robin had handed to him. He scanned it and let out a laugh.
"World Government... Hmph... To cover up the fact that an admiral was defeated, they downplayed the news from Mer Island, but they still put a bounty of over a billion berries on my head."
It was obvious to anyone with eyes that escaping from an admiral wouldn't warrant a billion-berry bounty. Such a high reward must be because of some other serious issue.
However, many pirate hunters might not consider this, as money and fame could make people greedy and irrational.
Even minor characters with bounties of less than 100 million berries dared to shoot at a Pacifista in an attempt to take down a Yellow Monkey and become famous.
There were plenty of people like that.
So, this bounty of over a billion berries would indeed bring some trouble.
"The government will likely continue to increase your bounty," Robin said, standing beside him. "They may try to pin various crimes and incidents on you."
Defeating a Navy admiral was an atrocious act.
Such a deed would warrant a bounty of at least 20 billion berries. The current bounty of 1 billion was just to cover up the news, and it would undoubtedly increase further.
"Most likely," Feng Ye chuckled. Then, he threw the newspaper aside and said, "It's a despicable move. It seems we need to teach them a lesson... Well, we should be reaching the Shambo Islands soon."
