Chapter 360: Golden Lion Ape
Chapter 360: Golden Lion Ape
The Horse Herd Plains were a vast expanse of land near Benma Castle, famed for its abundant horse herds. Every year, crowds gathered to witness the spectacular sight of galloping horses across the grasslands—a breathtaking marvel.
Klah and his companions arrived at dusk. Under the amber glow of the setting sun, golden light draped the fields, while a gentle breeze carried the rustling of grass as cattle and horses grazed peacefully, creating a scene both serene and invigorating.
Dismounting, Klah patted his steed’s flank. The horse instinctively turned and wandered off to graze.
“So… where are they?”
He turned to his three companions, realizing his question was pointless. Ju Geng was deaf, unable to hear his words, and though her Observation Haki was formidable, it was primarily for combat. Donald, skilled in Armament Haki, had questionable proficiency in Observation Haki. As for Sazil…
Klah ignored him outright.
“Guess I’ll have to rely on myself.”
Adjusting his coat, Klah’s body erupted in black fur as he shifted into his werewolf hybrid form. Dropping to all fours, he pressed his elongated snout to the ground, nostrils flaring. Werewolves’ acute sense of smell made tracking effortless—he needed no mastery of Observation Haki to locate targets.
“Everything reeks of beasts, but that means human auras stand out… Ah! Pungent!”
Klah suddenly recoiled, clutching his nose, coughing violently.
“A distinct herbal medicine scent!” He pointed ahead. “Nearby. That way.”
Without hesitation, he sprinted toward the direction. The others exchanged glances and followed.
Klah’s quadrupedal speed far outpaced his companions. Soon, he spotted a raised hillside. From his vantage point, a hollowed cave lay beneath, sealed by a gate.
“That’s it!” he barked.
Suddenly, black smoke billowed from the cave, spreading rapidly across the plains. The livestock—cattle, sheep, and horses—paused, their eyes igniting with crimson fury. With guttural cries, they stampeded toward the group.
“What the—?!” Donald grabbed his long spear, thrusting it through an oncoming horse. “Major Klah! What’s happening?!”
Whoosh! Ju Geng loosed three arrows in rapid succession, piercing the skulls of three charging steeds.
“Watch this!” Sazil rolled up his sleeves, clenched his fists, and roared, “Nailsfist Technique!”
Bang!
Before he could strike, a rogue bull’s horns slammed into him, sending him airborne. He hit the ground with a thud, scrambling up, face flushed. Casting a glance at Ju Geng and Donald—his master’s rival’s apprentice and a stranger—he felt his humiliation deepen.
“Unforgivable!”
Though they ignored him, Sazil’s pride seethed. With a guttural cry, he darkened his fists and smashed into an incoming bull. Crash! The beast soared skyward.
“Nailsfist Technique!”
Another punch followed, unleashing a shockwave that scattered the horses in a burst of blood and chaos. Standing tall, he shot a defiant look at Donald and Ju Geng.
They still ignored him.
Klah leaped high, bounding across the air with Moonstep. Below, the beasts writhed in madness, the smoke’s acrid stench revealing its role in their frenzy.
Too many…
“Calm Step!” he snarled.
Boom! Boom! Boom! His slashes ripped through the horde, explosions and cleaving winds felling the beasts.
“Wasting time on these pests is pathetic. We can’t let Kuromr think us inept—Kas would laugh!” Klah muttered darkly.
He kicked open the cave’s door, charging inside with Moonstep.
“Right—too much delay already!” Sazil followed, lacking Moonstep but mastering Shave. He blurred into a wispy afterimage, trailing Klah into the cave.
Suddenly, Klah’s aerial maneuver faltered. He recoiled mid-air, backflipping to the ground.
“Sazil—retreat!” he shouted.
Sazil’s spine prickled as an invisible force threatened to cleave him. Instinctively, he leapt backward.
Thud!
A massive, slender nitoryu sword embedded itself where he stood, its blade buried deep, the exposed edge gleaming coldly.
Whoosh!
Before Sazil could react, a golden blur descended—flying or leaping from the sky. It grew colossal, landing with a thunderous crash that upheaved the earth. The shockwave hurled Sazil backward, slamming him into the distance.
“Impossible! What is this thing?!”
Donald’s spear froze mid-strike as a charging ram bowed to the golden giant. His pupils shrank.
Ju Geng gripped his Great Bow, bowstring drawn taut, sweat beading his brow.
“What the hell is that?!” Sazil spat, voice cracking.
The beast loomed—ten meters tall, a furred monstrosity with a lion’s head and ape’s body.
Golden Lion Ape?
Did such a creature exist?!
“Klahmajor—what do we do?!”
Donald’s spear felt like a toothpick against the beast’s nitoryu—a blade now hoisted on its shoulder, absurdly slender for its size.
Klah’s aura flared. This creature radiated unrestrained savagery.
“Roar!!”
The Golden Lion Ape’s bellow shook the grass low, the stench of its breath forcing everyone to shield their faces.
Klah’s form swelled, transforming into a five-meter-tall werewolf. Crouching low, he growled, “Find the woman. I’ll hold it.”
