Chapter 36: Martial Law
Chapter 36: Martial Law
In another servant dormitory, Rain, upon hearing Thick Brow's desperate cry, immediately woke up.
He heard Thick Brow's pleas for help, followed by the word 'monster'.
Rain quickly roused George beside him and had him wake everyone up.
Rain himself rushed to the door and peered outside.
Just as he was wondering about the lack of movement in the opposite dormitory, a team of five patrol guards from the estate rushed towards it.
The next moment, Rain's heart clenched, and his scalp tingled as his pupils constricted.
In his line of sight, a massive dark shadow suddenly burst out from the opposite servant dormitory, shattering the door into fragments that flew in all directions, instantly covering several guards like a torrential rain.
As the guards raised their hands to shield themselves, two of them were knocked away.
At the entrance of the dormitory, a nearly three-meter-tall and over two-meter-wide hole was left, with the surrounding wooden boards splintered into sharp, jagged pieces. According to the guards' accounts, this werewolf had directly smashed through the door, and Sir Royde couldn't help but ponder the extent of its strength.
Indeed, fighting a savage werewolf in the woods at night, even for a Transcendent knight, would be a challenging task.
"Oh, right. Send someone to notify Flashgold Town immediately and inform them about the discovery of the savage werewolf."
Sometimes, even if he didn't seek danger, danger might find him.
If it weren't for the whispering fate's blessing, and if the monster had chosen to hunt in this servant dormitory instead, the consequences would have been terrifying for George and the other servants, making them shudder.
The middle-aged man with a commanding presence turned out to be Sir Royde, the butler and knight of the Habsburg Estate.
Sir Royde's arrival brought order to the previously chaotic scene.
Soon, a tall figure in thick plate armor, draped in a black cape, approached. The guards saluted, "Sir Royde!"
Judging by his speed, he was even faster than Bolt's 100-meter sprint in Rain's previous life!
Unexpectedly, Sir Peres, despite his imposing stature, offered a very cautious suggestion.
Without hesitation, Rain nodded.
"Sir Royde, this should be an extremely rare savage werewolf!"
Two guards in chainmail led the way, and the group arrived at the servant dormitory where Thick Brow and the others were.
Rain knew he had to redouble his efforts. With a solemn expression, his heart was filled with surging emotions. Soon, the Habsburg Estate was bustling with noise as guards rushed over, one after another, each wearing a nasal helm, clad in chainmail, and wielding swords, shields, or spears.
A sense of crisis instantly filled his heart.
But the sight before him brought him back to his senses.
"Yes, Sir Royde!" The messenger saluted and quickly mounted his horse, departing from the estate.
"Based on the patrol guards' accounts and the massive footprints on the ground, the attacker was likely a lone savage werewolf. Its size and strength are extraordinary, not like an ordinary werewolf." A guard, resembling a squad leader, reported.
"Sir Peres!" The guards saluted.
With the estate suddenly under attack by a savage werewolf, leaving a large number of servants here before the danger was eliminated would only increase the pressure on the Habsburg Estate.
The sight caused George and the other servants to stare at each other in bewilderment, but Rain quickly understood Sir Lloyd's decision.
As Rain and George listened to Sir Lloyd's conversation with Sir Peres from a distance, Humbert, the Squire Swordmaster in chainmail, hurried over to them and said:
But the guards still didn't release the hounds to track it, as if they were waiting for someone.
More importantly, the night forest was not a human's domain, and sometimes, they might encounter monsters more terrifying than savage werewolves, which could result in significant casualties during the hunt.
"Sir Peres, do you have any suggestions?" Sir Lloyd asked, turning to Sir Peres.
In Rain's imagination, with his professional panel, he could slowly 'grind' and methodically improve, eventually reaching the pinnacle of this world.
Rain and the servants had already come out and stood at a distance, watching the guarded dormitory across the way. They saw the servants, some vomiting and others sobbing, their faces pale, which made Rain's heart ache.
"What kind of monster is this?" Rain was shocked.
"This werewolf might not return, but it's possible it will go to Shiny Gold Town to forage. We should prepare for that."
"How is it?"

"Woof Woof Woof!"
In the moonlight, Rain vaguely saw the monster's robust body, hyena-like ugly face, and thick, hairy arms.
Some guards were leading greyhounds, relying on the dogs' keen sense of smell and the traces on the ground to quickly determine the direction and trail of the escaped monster.
"Yes, sir!"
After a moment's thought, Sir Lloyd nodded and turned to a nearby messenger, saying, "Strengthen the guard, especially around the servants' quarters, stables, and livestock pens."
"Take me to the scene." Sir Lloyd, with his golden hair and mustache, spoke in a deep voice after hearing the guards' report.
"The night forest is not our territory. I suggest increasing the alertness throughout the estate tonight, and tomorrow, we'll contact the new Sheriff of Shiny Gold Town, Sir Hamilton, to organize a search together."
"Squire training is suspended. All of you, follow me back to Shiny Gold Town."
A deep male voice sounded from behind Sir Lloyd, and it was none other than Sir Peres, the knight instructor of the Master County's noble heirs.
The huge humanoid shadow was holding a small, shirtless servant and quickly leaped over the fence.
If that monster had chosen their servant dormitory, would he have had to rely on luck and wait for death? No! Absolutely not!
This was the power of a formal knight, the awe-inspiring might of the transcendent. "Two servants are dead, and one is missing, probably abducted!"
If there were massive casualties among the servants, Sir Lloyd, as the estate's main person in charge, would be held accountable! Even as a knight, he would be blamed by the higher-ranking nobility.
So, the best solution was to send the servants back to their respective homes.
For the unfortunate deceased servants, compensation and appeasement of their families would be necessary to minimize the impact.
A group of servants, escorted by Humbert and several guards, hurried back to Shiny Gold Town under the cover of night.
