Chapter 359: Benefits
Chapter 359: Benefits
After cultivating the Golden Horizon with Mu Yue for some time, Might Guy rejoined Team Chen.
Without Guy, their team couldn't accept missions since Hinata Hyuga and Ebisu were newly graduated genin.
Upon Guy's return, Chen contemplated before accepting a B-rank mission.
B-rank missions often involved facing other ninjas, but their level rarely exceeded that of genin.
Most of the time, the ninjas they had to deal with in B-rank missions weren't from the Five Great Countries; they were either from smaller ninja villages or were rogue ninjas.
Chen believed that even without his intervention, his students could handle a B-rank mission with ease, and with Guy around, they could even handle unexpected situations.
"We're actually going to take on a B-rank mission?" Ebisu asked, a bit surprised, as they had barely completed any C-rank missions.
"Why not? B-rank missions offer a lot more ryo than C-rank ones," Hinata said with a smile.
He was no slouch when it came to academics, and he was well aware of the difficulties associated with the various mission ranks. With their squad's strength, a B-rank mission would be a breeze.
"C-rank missions usually involve dealing with regular people and don't offer much in terms of combat training," Chen explained.
His primary goal for this mission was to train Ebisu and Hinata. With Guy, an exceptionally strong peer, as a stimulus, the two had been training diligently, and even by Chen's demanding standards, they were doing quite well.
As for Guy, the missions their team could currently accept wouldn't provide much in the way of improvement for him.
If it weren't for Guy's insufficient contribution points, Chen believed that he could easily become a special jonin based on his taijutsu prowess alone.
"Youth is about fighting those stronger than yourself!" Guy laughed, giving a thumbs-up.
Hinata also gave Guy a thumbs-up, feeling more confident in battle with him around.
After a brief chat, Ebisu began to carefully study the mission details.
Once they had made contact with the client, the group set off.
Along the way, Chen deliberately lagged behind with Guy.
"Guy, when the fighting starts, try to hold back a little and don't defeat the enemies too quickly. Let Hinata and Ebisu take them down themselves," Chen whispered.
He was concerned that Guy might get too excited and wipe out all their opponents with the Konoha Sekizo, rendering this B-rank mission meaningless beyond the increased reward.
"Hinata and Ebisu lack combat experience compared to you. They need more practice," Chen added.
"Alright, no problem!" Guy nodded in agreement.
On their second day out of the Fire Country, they encountered six enemies, none of whom wore forehead protectors.
Chen protected the client while Guy and the others each faced off against two opponents.
Although they could easily overwhelm their foes, Guy held back as Chen had instructed, maintaining a simple dominance while keeping an eye on Hinata and Ebisu's battle.
This was Ebisu's first time fighting ninjas from another village on a mission, and he was initially nervous. However, after a few exchanges, he realized that his opponents were weaker than he had anticipated, and he immediately relaxed.
Bang! Bang!
Facing the two-on-one situation, Ebisu skillfully used taijutsu to deflect their attacks and then punched them back several steps.
"So weak," he muttered.
For a moment, Ebisu even felt that these foes were inferior to the Ninja Academy students, but he knew it was just an illusion.
It wasn't that they were too weak; it was that he had grown stronger.
With Chen's guidance and his own hard work, he was no longer the Ebisu who had been eliminated in the first round of practical exams.
"Ebisu, watch out!"
Seeing the unfavorable situation, the two ninjas fighting Hinata gritted their teeth and withstood one of his attacks before attempting to sneak attack Ebisu.
"Gen'ei Tajuu Shou!"
After a moment's thought, Ebisu immediately used the ninjutsu that had once created a miracle.
In an instant, several attractive, scantily-clad women, each with distinct features, appeared around Ebisu.
Chen, who was closely monitoring the battle, felt his nose heat up, and a red liquid flowed from it.
"This kid must have been practicing a lot. It's even better than before," Chen thought to himself.
The rogue ninja didn't start bleeding from his nose, but he was taken aback by the young boy's unusual ninjutsu, and his swinging knife paused for a moment.
Although the pause was brief, Ebisu seized the opportunity and used the Shunshin no Jutsu to dodge the attack.
The rogue ninja's expression turned furious, and he slashed at the alluring clones, cutting them all down.
The two rogue ninjas were already no match for him, and with this overwhelming offense, the remaining one was instantly defeated.
Kagura and Ebisu then surrounded the three rogue ninjas.
Seeing his teammates' advantage, Might Guy stopped holding back and unleashed his true strength.
"Breath of Stone, Full Concentration!"
"Wood Leaf Great Tornado!"
Guy focused his breath and channeled his power into his legs, unleashing his signature move, the Whirlwind Kick.
These enemies weren't worthy of him using the Eight Inner Gates; after all, he had learned this technique through self-restraint.
Boom! Boom!!
The two rogue ninjas beside Guy felt a terrifying force hit them, and they immediately lost consciousness, flying backward.
Bang!
The two ninjas slammed into the ground and fell unconscious.
"I thought we'd run into a chunin-level ninja or higher this time, but it turns out you weren't using your full strength, Guy," Kagura said, having just finished off his opponent.
He felt that to hold back Guy, the opponent would have to be at least a chunin; a genin would just be kicked away effortlessly.
Ebisu glanced at Chen, understanding his intention.
"Not bad. You're starting to resemble my disciples," Chen said sternly.
Ebisu's mouth twitched. If it weren't for the red marks on Chen's face that hadn't been wiped clean, he might have looked somewhat respectable. But with this appearance, his words sounded pretentious.
Sensing Ebisu's gaze, Chen wiped his face again and began reviewing the battle with Kagura and Ebisu, pointing out their mistakes.
There was no doubt about Guy's performance; after all, he had easily taken out his opponents with a single serious kick.
After this encounter, Guy and his team didn't meet any more enemies and safely escorted their client to their destination, returning to Konoha soon after.
However, a small incident occurred upon their return to Konoha. As they entered the village, they ran into another one of Chen's disciples.
"Teacher Chen," a young man of about 1.75 meters tall with a muscular build greeted Chen respectfully.
"This is Guy, your junior?" The young man looked at Might Guy.
Although he hadn't met Guy before, Chen had described him, and his distinctive appearance made him easily recognizable.
"His name is Kawai Takuya. Like you, he has no talent for ninjutsu or genjutsu, but his taijutsu skills are far inferior to yours," Chen nodded and briefly introduced his senior disciple to the others.
Hearing Chen's introduction, Guy gave Kawai a thumbs-up. He understood the challenges of becoming a ninja without ninjutsu or genjutsu talent.
After all, before he met Mu Yue, he had been the class delinquent for three years.
Ebisu and Kagura also greeted Kawai Takuya.
"Guy, I heard you're already practicing the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique. Can you show it to me?" Kawai asked curiously.
He had always wanted to learn Chen's Wood Leaf Dragon God technique, but he hadn't met the requirements yet.
Learning that Guy, a junior disciple much younger than him, had already started practicing it, he was eager to witness and learn from it.
"No problem," Guy readily agreed. He felt a sense of camaraderie with Kawai.
The group then casually made their way to a training ground.
"Pay close attention. If you can reach Guy's current level, I'll be a little more relieved," Chen said, knocking on Kawai's head.
With the ongoing wars, he was concerned that Kawai, with his limited skills, might perish on the battlefield.
While Guy only specialized in taijutsu, his prowess in that area was exceptional. On the other hand, Kawai's taijutsu wasn't sufficient to make up for his lack of ninjutsu and genjutsu skills.
Kawai nodded respectfully, then focused his attention on Guy.
"Breath of Stone, Full Concentration!"
"Eight Inner Gates, First Gate: Open!... Gate of Life: Open!"
As the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique demanded a lot from the body, Guy pushed his physical state to its peak.
"He's so strong!" Even though Chen had mentioned it before, Kawai was still amazed by the sheer power of Guy's full might.
It was impressive that Guy was only nine years old, half his age, yet already far surpassed him in strength.
"Focus, it's coming," Chen warned.
Kawai cleared his mind of distractions and fixed his gaze on Guy.
"Wood Leaf Dragon God!"
With a roar, Guy unleashed the powerful chakra within him, kicking out with a leg and spinning violently.
The dragon sucked everything around it into the vicinity, shredding it with its powerful gale-force winds, and in an instant, the surroundings were in disarray.
Gazing at the turquoise dragon, He Zhuo was also a little dazed. This was the powerful Rasengan he longed for.
Teacher Chen patted He Zhuo on the shoulder and then left.
He had done his best to teach, and the rest was up to He Zhuo himself.
After experiencing Might Guy's strength, Ebisu and Kagura also gained motivation for their cultivation and went off to train on their own.
"Guy, how do you usually train?" He couldn't help but ask Might Guy.
"I get up at 6 am for morning exercises. I run until I have no more energy left, then I eat breakfast. After that, I train my body all morning. Then, at noon..." Might Guy replied earnestly, detailing his daily routine.
He was astonished. He had always thought of himself as hardworking, especially since ninjas who only specialized in taijutsu had it tough. But compared to Might Guy, he realized he needed to step up his efforts.
"Is this your daily routine?"
"Not exactly. During the Chunin Exams, I can't train like this, and if I get injured, I reduce the intensity of my training," Might Guy continued.
He Zhuo fell silent. He felt that Might Guy's path to strength was flawless; even when injured, he didn't stop training but merely reduced the intensity.
"Ninjas like us, who lack talent in ninjutsu and genjutsu, must work harder to catch up with those geniuses!" Might Guy smiled, revealing two rows of white teeth.
"You're already a genius," He Zhuo marveled.
"Yeah, Mu Yue also said that. He said I'm a genius of hard work," Might Guy's smile widened.
He nodded in agreement. Indeed, Might Guy was a genius of hard work.
"I firmly believe that even if one only specializes in taijutsu, they can still reach the pinnacle of the ninja world," Might Guy asserted.
"A long time ago, there was a powerful taijutsu practitioner who honed himself in eight harsh environments and eventually created the powerful Bajing Heaven technique. I believe that as long as we are willing to work hard, one day we will be able to achieve something like that too!"
Might Guy shared the story of Bajing Heaven and the second-generation Miron.
He Zhuo was deeply shaken by the tale.
Before this, He Zhuo didn't have grand ambitions. He just wanted to master the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique and become an excellent taijutsu ninja.
Now, inspired by his predecessor's feat and Might Guy's achievement of mastering the Wood Leaf Dragon God technique at such a young age, he felt he could aim higher.
"Not only will I master Teacher Chen's Wood Leaf Dragon God technique, but I will also create my own advanced taijutsu!" He Zhuo thought excitedly.
"Guy, let's work hard together!" He exclaimed, looking at Might Guy with grateful eyes.
"That's what youth is about—striving together!" Might Guy laughed heartily, giving a thumbs-up.
"By the way, if you're looking for training gear, I recommend this green bodysuit I'm wearing. It's perfect for physical training."
...
After the training session, Mu Yue headed toward the main district, where his home was located. As he neared his destination, he skillfully activated his Byakugan to scan the surroundings.
Mu Yue didn't detect any Root or Anbu ninjas, but he noticed that there was an additional scroll on the table in his house.
Mu Yue returned home with an unreadable expression and confirmed that the scroll was safe before opening it.
"Training for Root ninjas..." After quickly scanning the contents, Mu Yue fell into deep thought.
He wasn't considering whether or not to accept the task but rather how to teach—whether to disable the Teaching System or instruct them normally.
He would definitely accept the task; with his current strength, he wasn't afraid of Danzo, but he still needed to maintain his standing in Konoha and continue to keep Danzo in check to avoid unnecessary troubles.
Moreover, Mu Yue was contemplating what benefits this training session could bring him. The tangible benefits were easy to imagine—if he successfully completed the task, his position within Root would surely rise, and he would likely receive rewards in the form of ninjutsu. Danzo had considerable authority in Konoha, so rewarding Mu Yue with ninjutsu would be a small matter.
However, Mu Yue was more interested in the potential benefits for his Teaching System. Would instructing these stronger ninjas make it easier to achieve higher-level evaluations?
