Chapter 358: Tension as Hurberlin Leaves
Chapter 358: Tension as Hurberlin Leaves
"Now that the Extinction Branch is leaderless, they must be desperate for an excellent manager to guide them onto the right path."
Lanchi feigned a worried expression as he picked up a bag of documents from the cabinet beside him.
He opened it and took out a special magic card that glowed with a pink radiance—the Saint's Proof of Extinction.
"Earlier, while you were asleep, Shia delivered the card stripped from Anelro, along with all his documents. Let's depart tomorrow and head to Box Mountain Province in broad daylight."
Lanchi brandished the Saint's Proof of Extinction in his hand and said to Xide with a smile.
"... I thought your ability to bypass the Empire's detection with your Demon Text 'Transformation Art: Human' was outrageous enough. I never expected that you could create a targeted transformation based on your own understanding, which is even more outrageous."
When Xide first saw Lanchi creating a purple rare card before her eyes, she thought he was at least a silver-level card maker in the Southern Continent Card Maker Association. Now, she felt that her assessment had been too conservative.
Just this ability to perfectly replicate the appearance of an enemy after seeing their face was incredibly ingenious and masterful.
"Luckily, I had good luck, and I had considered that the worst-case scenario might take three or four days."
Lanchi gestured with his fingers, casually sketching patterns in the air as he explained.
He and Talia were the only card makers in the world who could create this ancient Demon Magic 'Transformation Art' that could bypass the detection of the Protoss Empire's magic.
However, Talia couldn't create a perfect disguise with targeted transformations; only he could.
Of course, he needed sufficient time to make the card.
The process of making a targeted transformation card was far more complicated than the regular version, and it would likely require many failed attempts before a successful product could be made.
"... Meow."
Cat Boss was stunned.
When a person looked exactly like the Son of Extinction, and the Empire's detection magic couldn't reveal any disguise magic on them, and they had the Saint's Proof of Extinction... then they were the Son of Extinction.
This guy could now go to Box Mountain Province and openly escort Sigrid back to the Imperial Capital. Even if the Grand Priests of Extinction sensed the power of the curse seal on Sigrid, no one would stop him!
Cat Boss had never realized that Lanchi possessed such a dangerous ability to perfectly disguise himself as someone else.
In fact, when he saw the summoned being that plagiarized Tata's image, he should have known that this guy could basically plagiarize anyone if he was willing and patient enough.
Cat Boss even suspected that Lanchi might have a transformation card that could turn him into Loren!
If this guy, who had casually messed with Loren in Ecrite, personally transformed into Loren to play matchmaker for him, then Cat Boss just wanted to move away from the Royal Capital, Ecrite!
In the brief silence that followed in the workshop, Lanchi released the transformation of the Son of Extinction and returned to his appearance as Rocky McCassy.
"But I can't bind this Saint's Proof of Extinction right now."
Lanchi said helplessly to Xide.
There was a mutual exclusion between carrying the Proofs of Saints from different branches. Since he was carrying the Proof of the Saint of Dominance, he couldn't bind the Proof of the Saint of Extinction successfully. Moreover, releasing the binding of a pink sacred card would not only require materials and procedures but also cause the person being released to become weak for a period of time. This was true even for a zero-tier card of sacred pink quality.
However, if he wanted to temporarily unbind the Proof of the Saint of Dominance, he would first have to inform Sigrid.
"There's no need to unbind it. Just give me your Proof of the Saint of Dominance, and I can temporarily take it away from you in the form of punishment."
Xide stretched out her hand nonchalantly.
"Whether you hold that proof or not, you're still my person."
Lanchi nodded and returned the Dominance Saint Seal to Xide. She then took it and merged it into her Bishop's Proof, the silver moon crown seal that emanated an orange light.
And with that, Lanchi successfully bound himself to the new Saint's Proof of Extinction.
Looking at the proof of the Saint of Extinction, Lanchi felt that his academic research trip had indeed been quite eventful.
"Whoa, I'm so tired."
Lanchi walked to the window, drew the curtains, and gazed out at the starry night sky in the distance. He yawned widely,
"We set off tomorrow. We can't let the Extinction Branch continue to cause trouble for the Empire's citizens at the transport hub in Box Mountain Province."
He mumbled sleepily, his words muffled as he yawned again, ready to fall asleep on his feet.
...
Far away, in the northwestern province of Milford.
In the early morning, the thin, bluish-gray clouds in the sky above Milford's main city gradually turned golden in the light, and the morning dew and the fragrance of the flower gardens permeated the air.
The grand Milford family mansion was softly illuminated, making it look even more majestic and serene.
In front of the mansion was a spacious stone square, and a beautifully decorated classical-style elk carriage was already waiting, bearing the Milford family crest. Two silver-gray demon elk, their coats brushed to a shiny luster, pawed the ground excitedly, sensing the anticipation of the journey ahead.
Miss Milford, Mishula, and Hiberlian, were dressed in travel-appropriate attire, standing by the door with an air of noble elegance.
Attendants swiftly loaded the large and small luggage into the carriage's cargo hold, while the steward held a handwritten list, overseeing the process and ensuring that all items were accounted for.
Soon, they would be on their way to the Milford Territory's Magic Railway Station, from where they would head to the imperial capital, Helrom, and the Proto's Royal Magic Academy.
Count Milford stood in the porch, his expression as stoic as ever, but a flicker of worry in his eyes betrayed his reluctance to part with his daughter, who was about to embark on her journey to the imperial capital.
"Your Grace, we're ready to depart."
Hiberlian bowed to Count Milford, who stood a short distance away, expressing her gratitude for the family's hospitality and invaluable assistance to the church during her stay.
The count nodded, signaling for the two girls to board the carriage.
"Milly, take care. If you encounter any troubles, know that the Milford Manor is always your home," Count Milford said, his gaze fixed on Hiberlian as they walked alongside the carriage.
Despite the brief duration of their acquaintance, his family had grown fond of this strong and kind-hearted orphan. Should the situation stabilize in the future, and if she wished to remain in the Proto Empire, the Milford family would be happy to formally adopt Hiberlian.
"Thank you, Your Grace," Hiberlian said, her voice thick with emotion. Every step of her journey to the Northern Continent had been filled with unexpected twists and turns, but each day had left her with precious memories that would last a lifetime.
Count Milford then turned to his daughter. "Mishula, once you leave Milford Territory, you must listen to your sister, understand?"
"Yes," Mishula nodded seriously as she climbed into the carriage. She trusted her sister's strength, intelligence, and kindness, and she knew that the road ahead was still fraught with dangers. Heeding her sister's guidance was undoubtedly the right choice.
"Be very careful of the Extinction Branch's main force stationed in Box Mountain Province, especially the Saint of Extinction himself, who is likely to be there. If you encounter that man, do not let him take any interest or suspicion in you. He is a heartless madman, capable of anything, and you must not try to understand his actions through common sense and logic," Count Milford warned, his hand on the carriage door as he gave his final instructions.
"Mmhmm," Hiberlian acknowledged, understanding that this warning was directed specifically at her.
Although the past seven days in Milford Territory had been dreamlike, it was now time to wake up. The true challenges lay ahead.
And she, no matter how difficult and arduous the path, would not falter or shrink back!
