Chapter 358: Infiltrating Wanda Town
Chapter 358: Infiltrating Wanda Town
Wanda Town is a small settlement on the eastern frontier of the Lankte Alliance, roughly the same size as Red Forest Town, which Su Yu had visited before.
However, unlike Red Forest Town, where almost all the houses had red roofs, most of the buildings in Wanda Town had blue roofs. The architectural styles also differed significantly, likely due to cultural differences between the two regions.
Two kilometers from the town, Su Yu descended from the sky and began walking on foot. Upon reaching the town's entrance, he used the Invisibility Spell to slip in unnoticed.
Now a Holy Domain Mage, Su Yu no longer faced limitations like "cooldown" or "duration" with the Invisibility Spell. As long as he had enough mana, he could maintain the invisible state indefinitely. However, the spell had a peculiar characteristic: the longer it was maintained, the more mana it consumed. The first hour only used 2% of his total mana, but the second hour consumed 4%, the third hour 8%, the fourth hour 16%, and so on, in an exponential increase.
Thus, Su Yu could only maintain the spell for a maximum of five hours before he was forced to cancel it to recover his mana.
Once inside the town, Su Yu discovered that Wanda Town was situated in an oasis within a desert. The town was enveloped by sand and wind, but inside, there were lush green trees, several rivers, and a large lake at its center. The most prosperous commercial street circled the lake, and most of the town's wealthy residents lived along its shores. Even in the middle of the lake, there were several private yachts owned by the town's elite.
Su Yu lingered by the lake for a while before heading toward the outskirts of the town, where it was more secluded and run-down.
He sought out areas with fewer people, where the streets were dirty and the buildings dilapidated. Eventually, in a damp, dimly lit alley on the southern side of the town, he found his target.
It was a thug with a sloppy appearance, blue-dyed hair, and a sharp knife in his hand. The thug was threatening a Skrull woman, who was dressed in tattered clothes and looked utterly terrified.
Although the Lankte Alliance leaned politically to the left, the existence of gangs was not a matter of ideology but of the government's ability and willingness to govern. In a remote, overlooked town like Wanda, the presence of gangs was entirely normal.
Su Yu had been searching for such a gang, and now he had found one.
"Quick, hand over your money! I've been following you from the bank, and now I've finally got my chance!" the thug growled, pressing the knife against the Skrull woman's face.
"Please, have mercy!" the woman sobbed, her face filled with despair as she clung to a cloth bag. "This money is for my son's treatment! He has a terminal illness, and we need this 50,000 to save his life! If you let me go, I'll do anything you ask."
The thug showed no sympathy, roughly shoving the woman against the wall. "Don't give me that nonsense. It's your son, not mine. Why should I care? He's better off dead!"
As the woman fell to the ground, the thug reached for her bag. But the woman was resolute, clinging to the bag with all her might. Even as the thug's knife cut into her hand, she refused to let go.
After a few more moments of struggling, the thug's anger reached its boiling point. "You're asking for it!" he roared, raising the knife to stab the woman in the neck.
Although killing someone for a few thousand dollars might not be worth it, the thug, driven by impulse, didn't think that far.
At that moment, a dark purple light orb flew out of nowhere and landed directly on the thug's head. This orb was Su Yu's [Mind Control] spell.
The thug's thoughts were instantly taken over by Su Yu. He dropped his knife and knelt towards Su Yu's invisible position, shouting, "Master."
"Good." Su Yu canceled his [Invisibility] spell, and his figure gradually materialized from the air.
Before he canceled the spell, he snapped his fingers, and the female Skrull immediately fell unconscious.
Surveying the messy back alley, Su Yu looked at the thug. "What's your name?"
"Master, my name is John."
"How much money do you have on you?"
Thug John emptied all his pockets, producing only a few dozen dollars. "Master, this is everything I have."
"Put it next to the woman." Su Yu frowned, realizing how poor the thug was. No wonder he was resorting to robbery.
"Sure thing." John immediately complied.
"Do you have any partners, or do you work alone?" Su Yu watched as John placed the money, then asked coldly.
"Master," John replied promptly, "I have a boss named David. He's the one who told me to follow this lady."
"Lead me to your boss!" Su Yu waved his hand, then entered [Invisibility] mode, vanishing without a trace.
A few minutes later, in a dilapidated apartment building.
"John, did you take care of the woman I told you to follow?" A burly Skrull with a beard, sipping a beer, looked at John expectantly.
Before John could answer, a dark purple light orb swiftly flew to the top of the thug's head, and David's mind was firmly controlled by Su Yu.
"Tch, [Mind Control] is really useful!" Su Yu remarked as his figure gradually materialized in the old apartment building.
The [Mind Control] spell was incredibly versatile, especially against low-level enemies like these. It saved a lot of trouble!
However, the [Xiva's Soul Fragment] could only support the casting of 100 Shadow Priest spells, so Su Yu didn't dare use it recklessly. He needed to save enough uses for more important tasks in the coming days.
"David," Su Yu looked directly at the thug boss, "where can I get a fake driver's license in your town?"
The Lankt Alliance didn't have a unified ID system, but every adult had a driver's license, which served as their ID.
Although most people now used self-driving hover cars and didn't need to drive themselves, the tradition of having a driver's license was still maintained.
David thought for a moment and replied, "Master, I have a friend who works at the Department of Motor Vehicles. I think it would be easier to get a real license instead of a fake one!"
"Oh? How long would it take to get a real one?"
"If the money is in place, it should take about two to three hours."
"Alright." Su Yu nodded, took a photo of his face with the camera from his necklace, and handed it to David. "Leave it to you. Get the driver's license as soon as possible!"
"Leave it to me! I guarantee you'll have the license in three hours!" David responded confidently.
